    What a great maneuvering game! Thanks for explaining both sides in a game that would otherwise be lost on me.

    hey john, gotta give thanks to your content, I had my first otb game for school last week and I held myself quite well against an opponent who's somewhere around 1500, a bit higher than me.
    Unfortunately I managed to
    resign in an endgame that wasn't even lost, due to the unexpected subconscious pressure from everyone else for me to finish up so we could leave, but that's a story for another time.

      You're too kind John! Plus I'm sure you've got enough chess to deal with on your hands, haha.
      When something really meaningful and amazing shows up on the board, I'll share it with you!

    I was psyched to see the bot recommending b3 around move 16-17. I was continually looking at that move, but John never mentioned it as a candidate. The idea is to follow up with a4, and deprive black's bishop of b5 after white pushes the c pawn.

      +JiveDadson That's an intriguing plan. It looks slow to me, but it's certainly playable.

    I'm sure I'm missing something completely obvious to higher rated players, but could 19. ... dxc5 20. (Insert piece)xc5 c6 21. (Either) dxc6 (or) d6 be played? I suppose white would take with the dark square bishop to support a d6 push later (In case black plays c6) on by placing it on the a3-f8 diagonal. Much appreciation to any response which details how many centi-pawns or pawns advantage white will have from higher level rated players (2000+) or people with a chess engine. Peace.

      +Monem Al-Semien I'm a little skeptical of that continuation. Generally capturing on c5 is a no-no for Black in the KID, and specifically I think White's centralized pieces will guarantee him the advantage. For example, 19...dxc5 20.Bxc5 c6 21.Nc3 looks nice for White, though I admit it isn't crushing.

    16. fxg if Nxf5 17. Bg5 ... queen moves then g4 forks the knights. I think same tactic applies for any peice taking so pawn takes has to be played, which is structurally awful ??? maybe I'm wrong

    • @JohnBartholomewChess
      @JohnBartholomewChess  9 лет назад

      +King Oliver If 16.exf5 Nxf5 17.Bg5 Black has 17...Bf6 intending 18.Bxf6 Nxf6.

      okay, probably overly worried about ...f4 engine agrees this is not good for black as it loses a pawn (16. .. f4 17. gxf4 exf4 18. Nxf4 Nxf4 19. Bxf4) and there is no major follow up. Tactic was just a cheapo.

    hi john would you really care if chess was solved, no one would ever remember all the moves anyway, wouldn't be much different to now I think

    • @JohnBartholomewChess
      @JohnBartholomewChess  9 лет назад +1

      +mcpartridgeboy I would probably still play, though I think removing the "mystery" element to age-old chess questions would kill some of the enjoyment.
