  • Detroit. Rock. City. Home sweet home. The perfect setting to get back after it following a bit of a break in the vlogs. There's lots on offer at the Motor City Casino--no limit hold'em, pot limit omaha, 2/5, 5/10/20... Maybe we'll just play all of them?
    But first. The drone.

    How do you not get discouraged and just stop when you're stuck 3k? I mean, obviously, it depends on the bankroll, but I guess my question is what's the mindset when you're down a lot and you're just not running good? (other than "well I guess I'm gonna try and win it back")

    • @AndrewNeeme
      @AndrewNeeme  7 лет назад +185

      I think I was stuck about 2k at the lowest point. It's definitely not enjoyable but it's just a matter of needing to put hours in to eventually come out ahead. I mean, I'm already way ahead when I walk in the door... it's impossible for me to lose anything more than a small fraction of what I've won during my cash game career in any given night. So the total tally just moves in very small ticks each night, and the next hour that I play makes it more likely that I'll make more money.
      It was one of the reasons that when I started this vlog, I was hesitant to even mention what I won or lost at the end of the session. But there's no avoiding it because it really helps turn each video into a little story. It's just really hard, even for myself occasionally, to remember that being "stuck" in a session has no bearing at all on my cash game results.
      But if we assume...
      1) We practice reasonably sound bankroll management
      2) Poker and/or skill based gambling (and access to it) never goes away
      3) I don't develop some sort of mental debilitation or suffer some mental breakdown which I lose the balance of my modestly sound professional gambling mindset
      ...then it's 100% that I'll be a winning player for the rest of my poker playing career. So there's just a general sense that develops over time that as long as I'm in a poker game where I have an edge (which I generally do at the stakes that I play, and if I don't then I either don't stay very long or just consider it a learning experience and expect to break even or lose a little, hopefully...) then it's worth staying for.
      You have to try and think about it in the language that makes sense to you. I don't know what you do for a living, but whatever it is, I'm pretty sure there are bad weeks/days/hours at your job. Let's say an elementary teacher is having a rough afternoon with her students, is she just going to stop school that day? Quit her job? What happens when a pastry chef fucks up a big order halfway through baking it, is he going to get "discouraged" and just not get the job done, or is he going to grind it out and stay late past close if need be?

    • @RANDOMDUDENo1
      @RANDOMDUDENo1 7 лет назад +6

      Andrew Neeme best response to a great question. Poker is a job. Albeit a very niche job, still a job nonetheless. You work hard and 'grind' whatever it is you do to be successful and poker is the same. The only difference being a conscious bankroll management because you're paying yourself rather than being paid by an employer. However even then, it's the same as owning your own business. So totally agree there Andrew, well said. See you in London soon hopefully! #favorable

      As an advantage player, whether it's poker or against the casinos, you have to have a disregard for money. It's just a tool.

    • @RyanCohen11
      @RyanCohen11 7 лет назад +4

      thanks for the reply. I'm actually a children's book illustrator/artist and also have a passion for poker (as well as these vlogs). Makes sense that even that kind of a loss would be only a tick compared to a detrimental loss for your overall. Only asked cuz this past Friday, I played for an hour at commerce and did not run good (I flopped a straight and the dude turned a flush, etc) down 110 and decided to call it and just go home. It's not a huge loss for me, but considering I'm still trying to get started if I wanted to do this regularly on the side, felt it wasn't worth it to stick around.

    i absolutely love your vlogs andrew. you are the perfect balance of all things poker. other vloggers either jump into the action too much, or have too little/no action. and their non-table/hand sequences are not as interesting as yours ! i like the buildup in your videos where we learn fun facts or a bit about you and you tell us some good shit or some us some footage then you hit the tables and make a big 5k win

    Once again, great vlog. Welcome back and I hope all is well at home.
    Thanks for posting the run out on those PLO hands you folded. Always amazing to see how crazy those games can get, especially at those levels.
    Bummer on the 3 outer Ace on the river for that one decent sized pot but we've all been there. I got lucky last weekend with a starting hand of pocket Kings with one club, made an 8x BB raise pre-flop (4 to 6x was the common pre-flop raise for this table during the session). Two clubs and an Ace came on the flop, I check and luckily one player makes the same bet and the other players called (yes, 3 callers to my pre-flop bet). For that price, I thought it best to call since I was last to act here. Turn brought another club, checked around, river was the fourth club. Two players had an ace, but no one had the club so my Kings took it down with the King high flush. Whew!
    Congrats on the comeback for the sessions, hope the vlog run good continues!

    I think that today's vlog is a perfect example of why you have the perfect emotion needed for a poker player. You took a couple bad beats especially that KK vs AQ hand, and where most would have tilted and fallen apart (and although it happens to us all on certain days), you kept your composure and completely turned it around. Congrats buddy, great start after the break..

      That was at Grosvenor Casino in Didsbury, Manchester. Seems to be a new promotion to get people playing more cash because I've noticed similar stakes at the G Casino in Swansea, which is my local. The rake was high but I really don't mind. Nothing worse than turning up live and having to sit down with min £200 - £300 when you just want to get a feel for cash :)

      Jordan 6?

    • @Shenanigambling
      @Shenanigambling 7 лет назад

      Yeah, there were 6 cards left in the deck that his opponent could have hit to win the pot. To me, 'sick' has to be less probable than hitting a 2-outer. Kinda dilutes the term using it here imo.

    Early college years... driving to Windsor on a Friday evening--in a three or four car convoy. Those were the days! The weaker Canadian dollar was another important detail that made growing up in Metro Detroit a fantastic experience. There's also Woodward Avenue; but that's another story ;)
