What is chain drive?
Chain drives are suitable for small center distances, generally up to 3 meters, but in special cases, even up to 8 meters.
Chain drives transmit power up to 100kw and operating peripheral velocity up to 15m/s. The velocity ratio can be as high as 8:1.
The main disadvantage of the belt drives and the rope drives is that the velocity ratio does not remain constant but varies on account of slip.
Since chain drives are positive drives, there is no slip. Hence the velocity ratio will remain constant.
Chain drives are employed for a wide range of power transmission applications, like bicycles, motorcycles, rolling mills, agricultural machinery, machine tools, conveyors, coal cutters, etc.
A chain drive consists of a chain and two wheels called Sprockets. The sprockets are toothed wheels over which an endless chain is fitted.
Types of Chains Used in Power Transmission
1. Roller chain
2. Silent chain
3. Leaf Chain
4. Flat-top Chain
5. Engineering Steel Chain

Thanks for watching, and subscribe for more.
You are not being watched as much as you deserve but I think you are really good at explaining these topic , thanks keep up with good work
Glad you like them!
It's a robot voice
One big disadvantage compared to belts or shaft is that if chain fails it's usually somewhat dangerous. Due to forces and weight of steel it will store a lot of energy. Belt would fail by sliping and even breaking isn't so dangerous.
Shaft would usually get twisted.
Top quality explanation with perfect video examples and providing PDF documents. Keep it up 👍👌👏
Thank you, I will

I work for one of the world's oldest chain manufacturers who have been in business since 1880. The Name in Chain is EWART designed and manufactured in Derby, England.
Now i can make a decition what kind of chain that best for my bike, great job you guys
Thank you so much!
Very good video.
Thanks.
Chains can be expensive. High grade steel with alloys.
Handling of chains new and in work.
Special lubricating oils.
New chains are rust protected not lubricated.
Thank you very much
Thank you for this video really helps with my transmission learning for chains ☺️
Top notch*exceptional*
Great video sir. Thank you!
Very nice ...i like it 👍
You explaintion method is very best joy more live more
Could you do a video about types of speedometer and how it work ? I am really thankful to you.
Toothed belt (gilmer belt) drive is almost as efficient as roller chain, 96-7% as opposed to about 99% for roller chain
Love the info can you do a video on rc chain drives???
I hope you can voice your own videos, but otherwise great content as usual!
7:37 "is still a basic feature of BICycle design today"
Neat explanation of chains, but I didn't find the info that I came here for!
What is the name of the kind of chain that I would need to fix rotating shelves in a vertical carousel? I assume it's similar to a conveyor chain, but does it have a specific name?
missing saw chain ant tank tracks (technically a type of specialized chain)
At 9:07 the bike your showing doesnt have a chain drive... that is a motorcycle with a shaft driven diff... why did you use that clip?
Magnetic coupling,, more details if possible 🙏
~4:08 Ah, so this is the fabled bockchain that everybody is talking about... :D
What is difference between roller chains and engineering chains? Are leaf chain and engineering chain in the group of power transmission chain drive?
I am still no clear about these after I watched your video.
Roller chains often are used for power transmission and engineering chains are used for material handling.
Вы забыли сказать о том, что цепное соединение более шумное, чем остальные.
Зато КПД (во всяком случае для велосипедов) выше чем ремни, или карданный вал.
👏👏👏
tank tracks ?
You forgot a mechanical caterpillars section !
how can you make this video without mentioning the timing chain of an engine damn xd
you forgot about o Ring chains
That's just a roller chain.
Anyone else cringe that at 9 minutes or so, the bike has a shaft drive and not a chain drive?
what about the chainsaw? :v
- али немаш овај ланац а то и не постоји
ланац од рецимо "куглица од лежаја"
- и онда то ставити да је "цвт" механизам
- кулгица спојена на другу куглицу и то ланац
A chain is a chain 😔
bulldozer chains?
timing chains?
I like turtles.
I like trains
i like chains
i like tigers
damn please lose the robo voice...i have only expletives left to describe how much the quality and viewability of your content drops dramatically because robo bit@! cant speak without a glitch in its mouth...otherwise, excellent information and visual presentation
Poor explanation
get a proper narrator
i did not enjoy this video at all. 0/10 i hate chain drives.
