Yes it does, just as it was back in the day (71-72). Their downfall was the lack of horsepower and poor brake technology. Had they used the 340 V8 in 71-72, they would have won. Having owned many Chargers, they drive and handle far better than the Falcons and Monaros of the same era. Toranas of course, were a one size smaller car, but drove like rubbish. Could'nt help but laugh when the commentator says, "A Hemi wins the day"...No, the 340 V8 is Not a Hemi :). Probably was'nt even born back in the heyday.
This shows that chargers do handle quite well. It also proves that Walt McPherson (head Chrysler engineer) was right, you need a V8 to win. As much as I love the Hemi 6, they should have used the V8 back in the day.

How about "these commentators are so stupid and biased against mopar muscle!" as the charger crosses the line they talk about it's hemi ????. They wouldn't know what a hemi was if it ran them over. Crick's car is a small block mopar with w2's I believe.
The 340 V8 was secretly tested against the E49 six and couldn't get within 1and a half seconds. It was therefore decided that the E49 was the way to go in 72 and develop the V8 for 73. But this was knocked back by the super car scare and Chryslers head office man from Texas closing down their racing division. However 2 rank amateurs got 6th outright in an E38 to prove a factory effort would have been a podium.

I love the Charger, had 2 of them & had the morons at Chrysler raced the Charger back in the day with the 340 engine they might have won something. Instead they put it in the same category as the Torana XU1, just plain stupid.
