  • Morningstar published a report exploring the top kiwisaver funds over the past ten years. In this video I reveal the top kiwisaver funds with the highest returns from all risk tolerances, including conservative funds, moderate funds, balanced funds, growth funds, and aggressive funds.
    There are literally hundreds of funds to choose from, 370 to be precise as at January 2024, so choosing the correct one can be tough. By looking at the best performers over the past 10 years, we can sort through the average and find the gems. In the shorter term, funds could do well by chasing quick wins or entering highly volatile investments following strong momentum. However, as kiwisaver investors, we only invest for the long term as it could take 10+ years to make a kiwisaver withdrawal for a first home, or 45+ years before retirement. We must therefore compare returns over 10 years to find the managers that can make steady and sustained returns, over the long run. Only in the long run can we often access these funds, so we may as well back kiwisaver fund managers that have succeeded over a similar period of time.
    It's also important to ensure you are in the right kiwisaver fund, as being in the wrong fund can literally cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars.
    The funds I cover in this video are shown for entertainment value only and are not investment advice. Simply I am sharing public information from Morningstar about these funds, and using external data and judgments by third parties to relate these to the factors I mention. You can find the report I refer to at www.morningstar.com.au/insigh... . Specifically, I used the September 2023 report.
    Among the top funds are Milford Asset Management's Active Growth Kiwisaver Fund, Balanced Fund, and Conservative Fund. Generate also had their Moderate Fund, and Focussed Growth Fund feature as the best in their risk category.

    In my view, there should be another column that looks at each provider's fees, and another column that calculates returns minus fees.

      What is often overlooked in this conversation, is that Australia's pension is asset & income tested, NZ's pension is universal.

      @BrentColeman which would you recommend and for long term investing probably for retirement? ?

    By the time anyone saves a million it'll be worth 100,000 by the time they cash out. It's almost not worth it to save for that long when you consider the rate of inflation.

    • @BrentColeman
      @BrentColeman  4 месяца назад +2

      We'd have to assume the Kiwisaver contributions would also increase at or near the rate of inflation over an entire working career (assuming wages and inflation move in tandem), so the impact would not be as substantial as simply discounting $1.3M back 45 years
