Thanks so much Mark, I was always getting stopped out with "predictable" 1x ATR or 2x ATR stops, even though I picked the correct direction most of the time. Infuriating. Much wider stops work much better for me. Yes yes YES at 6'34" - - reward doesn't have to be higher than risk in your reward:risk ratio .. this is how I'm trading now and with a good win rate, my system has a positive expectancy. Thorough backtesting is super-important. Thank you and keep the great videos coming. You've helped me enormously. Cheers, Ron.

Probably the single most important topic regardless of what market you trade. Thank you Mark again!
Please keep posting different variations on this subject, it's never enough.
P.S. and Mark, please give us your take on using ATR combined with price action structure when placing stops.
Such a value from this channel. Keep up great work! 🙌🙏

Tight stops- Death by a thousand stops.-for masochists only Wide stops. Death can come more quickly. No stops. Danger of electrocution.. Seriously though as a fairly new trader I have found that backtesting a stop loss technique is as important testing the trading method. My own preference is now based around a moving average-but each to his own. My main trading goals . Life preservation. Maintain my sense of humour no matter what.

Thanks Mark , but what if my setup build on a tight stop , with high Risk to reward ratio then my tight stop keeps me with trade when it goes to direction i want , i test it and practice it for long time and it doing much better for me than wide stop,

In any case, I dont prefer wide stop loss. If you have to put your SL wider, It means you must wait a little bit to let the price come to the place you wish(avoiding Fomo). Dont forget there will be opportunities in near future. Otherwise, i dont believe making profitable money possible.

How my losses occurs. 1) being wrong, i try to "save" my bid by insisting in the wrong direction. Then the market stays against me until i can't stand it no more. So there is a major mistake it's being wrong. I don't care about stop loss, that's gambling : If i'm sure, i will widen the stop. It's because i'm sure that mistakes occurs, for example i'm sure of a pattern : 90% of the time it's wrong. I'm so sure that i think, oh, easy money, how easy it is omg, man, trading is sooooo easy. ahhhh the whole market is sooo obvious omg ! free money !

Wider stop losses means less losing trades, the market will reverse

No one places their stop at the highs or lows especially not retail, they all fade the breaks all the time just look at broker data and myfxbook positions.
