This is one of the most touching songs I ever heard - especially in this version. If you have in mind, that she wrote this song in her early twenties, you get an idea what a great songwriter she is. Well, I am in my fifties and I guess neither me do nor my parents, who passed away in the last years, did really know, what "clouds", love and life is. A stunning song and a great performance.
You will be amazed if you listen to her younger self. She sang in a very high soprano, often going into falsetto. This is amazing that she has rearranged this song to fit her older voice.
I hope you'll listen to the original version of this song (and the full catalog of Joni Mitchell songs) to appreciate the evolution of this wonderful, wonderful artist/musician. Thanks for this reaction, i enjoyed it.
This is amazing. Totally transforms the original into a provocative, profound reflection on a life lived, and lessons learned. Her voice is exceptional in this. Lower? yes ... but so what? ... she has gained nuance, phrasing and the power of flooring you emotionally.
In 1965 she gave birth to a daughter but she was unable to provide for her so she put her up for adoption they finally reunited in 1997 I think she always had a sadness in her voice, because the clouds got in the way that seperate her from her child.
wow, if I could I'd give this ten thumbs up, I appreciate your reaction and the great selection. It would be great if you can listen to the original version from way back. The way Joni is moving I feel that she's keeping internal rhythm especially since the song has been slowed down by a lot. She's also a great musician, she plays acoustic guitar and creates her own tunings and she's innovative in her playing. I was listening to your Beatles reactions, those are fantastic and then I found this amazing video.
The song is about when you start out in life you look at thing through rose peddle glasses and then you experience life and it is not what you thought it would be like. for instance the way she said about love she thought it was one way and then she experienced and it, and she really does not no love at all.
This version is very good! Joni is my Queen! Listen to her when she was younger (she had a high pitch voice...but she is a heavy smoker)! I suggest the song River from the Blue album (1971)
You said, "she has a very interesting way of moving on stage. She really seems to get into the music." Throughout her career and lyrics, we find that she has always enjoyed dancing.
Curious to know if you have since reviewed, listened to, the original recorded version and how you feel about Joni's presenting of Both Sides Now so early on in her career, and not also in a staged presentation, as this was?
Joni Mitchell is sooo musical and so immersed in it, she can't help but move her body to the music. ..to sing a song without percussions and to make matters more difficult, the strings didn't have rests in between, I'm guessing legato is the term... her body motion is her sense of timing.
Whether younreact to it or just enjoy personally, I think you would realltly appreciate the lyricism of a few of her newer albums. While her lyrics are always flawless, her work on Taming the Tiger amd Turbulent Indigo is sonwmotionally evocative. Borderline, Magdalene Laundries, Yvette in English, Crazy Cries of Love are just avfew masterpiecws off of those two albums. She is a singular artist; painter, poet, and musician
Have you ever watched the reaction channel that's called JustJP? As a musician, I think you'd enjoy listening to his analysis of the music. He has one of the best, and little known, reaction channels on yt.
Joni Mitchell has an amazing catalog of music. Try a variety of her material. The albums - Blue. The Hissing of Summer Lawns. And Hejira are strong fan favorites. Just pick some songs from those albums. They are all fantastic. Joni’s material is underrepresented among reactors considering her influence.
First this is not a reaction request. This version is so different than her original interpretation. Here's a great live performance recorded by the BBC which demonstrates her original interpretation. ruclips.net/video/bcrEqIpi6sg/видео.html If you choose to listen, enjoy. IMO the version of the included link does tell the story of the song better and I believe her movements on stage were just a longing for her guitar.
I am a massive fan of the great songwriters, my all time music idol is Neil Diamond, but I love Joini Mitchell, without a doubt she is the premier female songwriter of the last forty years at least, I remember when I first watched and listened to this version, I cried buckets, during it, and after, there was something deeply moving in this performance, it didn't help that my dear mother had recently died at the time, but it touched me in a way I hadn't been touched by a song for a while. I like the critique, but a little advice, listen to the whole song first, immerse yourself in the not just the song but the performance, you will get the best from it that way, you lose the feeling and emotion by continually pausing it, this is a piece that has to be viewed and listened to in it's entireity, the raw emotion in Joni's voice is on another level, the song is sung with the wisdom of age and of life experience, it draws you in completely, and leaves you drained emotionally. A classic song, sung by a classic and legendary artiste.
How can you choose that version? It is essentially a different song than the original version. Her voice is several octaves lower than it was in her prime. Oh well, your channel I guess...
Now go back and listen to her original release of this song, many decades past. There was an incredible journey between then and now.
She's so incredible! It's amazing that she was only 21 when she wrote this song! She's been my favorite artist for almost 50 years!
Joni is a genius! You will love her entire discography. It's masterpiece after masterpiece of lyrical and melodic brilliance. She's the greatest!
She was a poet and a painter before we she was a singer. God gifter her! I love her.

She’s the best songwriter now living. Amazing lyrics. Absolutely incredible phrasing. Beautiful melodies. She has it all.

Watching you reminded me of how great this song is.....and what a great lyricist Joni is.

I'm staring down the barrel of 70 this November so I understand the song all too well.

Beautiful music is timeless
It really is powerful to listen to the first live performance and then this one back to back.
Reflective observations from both camps - Liked.
I SEE OTHER PEOPLE TRY TO COPY YOU...THEY FALL SHORT....I MUST SAY I LOVE WATCHING YOU REACT TO MUSIC
I prefer the original version. Joni's brilliant.

MORE JONI PLEASE!!! ❤️❤️
Wonderful reaction
Thankyou!!
Hi Caroline - i just love this song and with the orchestra its just beautiful-from the album Travelogue
I wonder how it felt at 57, singing a song about life you wrote at 20. A bit sad, seeing this, hearing how her voice had changed so much.
It has changed it as matured as the woman did, a beauty then and a beauty now.
Joni was reading Henderson the rain king by Saul bellow , if you read the book you will be amazed
I like this version - an older woman who now understands what life means; much different than her younger self

The original version was in 1969 with just her and a guitar

Love your channel, your reactions are great. Best to you.
Thanks so much Eric!

I thought Neil Diamond actually wrote this song for many years as I first heard it on his double-cd Glory Road album. Seems like a Neil song. 😊
Please please react to A Case of You by Joni Mitchell
Really nice song :) 💗💕
Her voice was better when she was younger (too much smoking), but she still knocked it out of the park.

Joni has lost a bit off the top range of her singing voice. Have a listen to the same song 20 or 30 years earlier.
