When I look at things from John’s perspective I get why he does the things he does - his reasons are the same as Bonnie’s - there’s just something about him that’s irksome. Maybe it’s the complete lack of guilt when does those things.
Damon threatening isobel was the highlight of the episode. Not isobel exposing that damon loves elena lmao. Damon is so intuitive that he figured out John was Elena’s biological father.

Witches supposed to be servants of the nature, they have to keep the balance. Emily pledged herself to Katherine and she helped the vampires a lot giving them powers they could never have: creating the daylight rings, saving them from being killed in the church, keeping their secrets… etc She was concerned about the humans of her town so she spelled all those devices for humans to be able to fight back the vampires. Of course she couldn’t admit she was a witch because they would burn her alive. So, she secretly spelled all those things and let Jonathan Gilbert believe that he invented them… He called himself a genius believing he created all these with “science” but in reality it was Emily who created the vampire compass, the rings to protect you from being killed from supernatural beings… etc
honestly never blamed Bonnie at all for not deactivating the device. we never saw Elena try harder (I know Bonnie stepped out but there was effort to be made) to be there for her after Grams died and then comes asking for help for keep vampires safe? girl bye
I feel like that’s more so a writer’s error than an Elena flaw considering that, like you said Bonnie was gone for a few episodes so there wasn’t really much Elena could do if it wasn’t written in for her character.
I agree but also Elena’s been a little busy constantly getting her and her family/friends lives threatened. She’s always getting Bonnie involved because vamps keep threatening to kill everyone.
I mean Bonnie is the one who offered and asked about it. Her not deactivating did have some repercussions that highly sucked for other people. Bonnie was gone for a few episodes and someone was literally going to kill her little brother. There was literally no time to comfort her

I love Bonnie. Always doing her thing and trying to do what's right even if the others don't like it. Also, it was good to see Bonnie and Caroline finally have a decent conversation in 15 episodes, even if Bonnie was pretty ambiguous about what she did.

Rewatching this episode made me realize that Isobel was around them when she had her humanity turned off. She was acting so emotionless because they were off and Elena was the only one who could turn them back on. IMO
Anna lied about it having to be Gilbert blood. She wanted it to be Gilbert blood because she blamed Jonathan Gilbert for her mom being in the tomb. It just had to be human blood.
Stefan is issuing that ultimatum because he knows deep down how Elena feels about Damon regardless of what she has said out loud. He just chooses to go upto Damon instead of Elena, so that Elena doesnt see him as the jealous boyfriend.

Bonnie’s kinda a selfish backstabbing traitor this episode. When she knows that it isn’t fair to Stefan because he isn’t as bad as Damon & others, at least from what she’s seen. Even Grams tried saving him & died doing it
So the math is ONE (possible) semi-decent vampire on Stefan... VS... Damon + 20 something other vampires that (most of them) have already proven that they don't share a desire for peace and want bloodshed... Does that add up in your head?... Don't get me wrong, I like Stefan a lot, he isn't either innocent or soulless monster, but I would love for him to be ok; but Bonnie's reasons are quite understandable... And if you or me were regular people living in Mystic Falls, then we would be begging for someone like Bonnie who tries to think about and do right by, you know, the actual innocent people that live there.
