- Over 75,000 fans packed Stadium Australia to watch the CommBank Matildas' gallant effort in the FIFA Women's World Cup semi-final, where England's Lionesses claimed victory, 3 goals to 1.
Well done Matilda's.

Australia were totally owned by England. Especially in the 1st half, England had 80% possession of the ball. I watched it on the BBC & the commentary was so different to how the Australian media had the game. In the UK it was seen as a pretty & easy comfortable win against a fairly flat opposition, in Australia it was somehow positioned as a close game.

I think they were frustrated that England were passing around a lot at the back, but that’s how you control possession. If Aussies had pressed more, maybe they nullify that. All the English players play in the top leagues and have more experience.
Because Australians are ungrateful winners and even worse at losing. They thought they just had to turn up and the game was theirs, fortunately England European Champions put them back in their pram.

It's undoubtedly hard to lose at the semi-final stage of a major tournament, and third place may seem a bit pointless. But I hope the Matildas can pick themselves up - a bronze medal gives them something to show for their magnificent performances.

One winner and it's just not our time yet. England have worked very hard with their local womens competition and are investing lots of money, hence why they were a class above. We arent that far off. FFA have decisions to make financially to capitalise on the current success of the Matildas
We don’t invest 💩into football, our schools are embarrassing for sport funding- that’s why Australians win so many medals at the Olympics. There’s nothing there so they do sports and invest in it

Has taken England several tournaments to get to the top where they are now winning the Euros and being 90mins away from adding the World Cup as well... The Matildas need to take heart and go again the England side shows you get results if you keep working at it.

This match could have gone either way when Kerr had scored that goal. But defensive blunders and lack of clinical finishing from Australia meant England to the final.

How the aussies could blame this on their injuries is a joke, and I've also heard that their media over there seem to think it was a close match lol. England could and probably should have had another 3 or 4 sitters. In every aspect of the game the English girls were so much better. And if they had needed to i'm sure they had a few more gears to up as well. At least they play to a plan and have a basic structure. If they lose to Spain it will be a freak result, like a 1 in 10 type thing, but imo England have been hands down the best side at this tournament. Let's hope they maintain that for one more game. Personally I think the Spanish will be terrified and will be mostly just trying to contain England.
Win or lose Matildas you were great, Sam Kerr what a goal now I understand why your there. Obviously the defence definitely need improvement. Mis Fowler practice firing from outside the box. It was nowhere near the corners. It was right in the middle of the goal at a perfect height. 9/10 keepers save that. She switched off though cause it was all getting too easy. England could also have scored 3 or 4 more very easily.
