BEWARE!!! Torque spec Information in this video is incorrect and caused me a HUGE headache. The pan bolt torque spec is NOT 15 FTLBS. It’s 65 INCH lbs. or just over 5ft lbs… I snapped FOUR of the pan bolts trying to torque these little M6 bolts to 15 ft lbs. 1 of which broke flush and I had to drill the thing out. I was following along with this damn video and that’s what caused me all this headache. What should have been a 2-3 hour job has turned into 3 days. I know I’m partially to blame for not double checking the torque spec but please man for the love of god make sure you provide all the correct information next time!
Wow, I followed specs provided by Alldata. I’ll double check and out that in the video description. Not of my boot broke.
+1 one to this, I tried 15 FTLBs on my '16 GSF and I snapped the first pan bolt, I used 8 FTLBs on the others. Consider pinning the comment. Great video tho. Thanks!
Thanks guys, I pinned the comment and changed the description.
@@skrrtgarage3922 apologies for being rude. Was just pretty frustrated at the time. This video did help me do the service so I suppose I can’t be too angry. Cars running great. Thanks for pinning.
Fairly new (2013) IS F owner here as well. Love the content and looking forward to more…especially the DIY videos. Keep them coming and thanks.
Thanks Brian! Appreciate the support!
That’s way cool, I am an original owner of a 2013 ISF, NGP.
You can use a cheaper scanner like the carly device for example and use that to monitor the ATF temperature in real-time on the car's obd2 diagnostics port. Techstream isn't required. Heat gun is also a good idea!
Thanks for the video. Very clear and helpful! Do you recall how many crush washers are needed for this job?
Another method to measure trans temps is to use a Bluetooth OBD reader and download the software for your car on it. This unlocks the trans temp reader/feature. Turn the car on, get under the car while it's running while checking temps on your phone. Drain overflow. Done.
Yea, if I need to redo this I’ll use a scanner for sure
Brilliant Video, thanks, one question, when removing the overflow once up to temperature, do you leave the car idling, or turn it off?
Thanks! Yea, you leave the car idling 👍🏼
Great video....how many miles did the car have when you changed the fluid?
i have lexus rc 350 2015 that has the 8 speed transmission too does it use the same operating temperature 95-110 to use the overflow drain?
I really appreciate the video. Just to be clear, after you removed & replaced the gasket on the pan. You filled up the transmission with approximately 5.5 quarts of oil. Started the car, waited for it to get up to temp. Then pulled the overfill plug? Thanks in advance!
Yes exactly, although I think I put about 5.75 quarts of ATF in. Thanks for the comment 👍🏼
I got my F coming up on a year ago. I feel like it definitely needs this service. Sometimes it'll hang at 2nd or 3rd gear when I turn on to a street because I'm guessing the fluid is low or just not getting enough to shift.
Yea, this should certainly help!
When the oil gets old it doesn’t lubricate like it should. So it will make the trans act weird. Ie slip, hang, all that stuff you don’t want. Not to mention old fluid will also wear parts out quicker.
Hey did you have any slipping after this?
Can you tell me the drain plug and charge plug torque?
I'd personally have the car far higher on Axle Stands. But each to their own, thanks for the tutorial
Yea.. the car has to be level and my jack stands only go so high
very thorough!
nice video, great explanation
Thanks! 👍🏼
Great informative video thank you bro
Hello what size oil change ramps did you use?
Excelente ⚙️✅
Do you leave the car on once it reaches the desired temperature or turn it off?
Leave it running while you quickly drain. Then put the cap back on and then turn the car off
@@skrrtgarage3922 basically drain the excess until it trickles while within the specified temp range? Sounds easy enough.
You kept the car on as you drained the excess fluid?
Yes, the car needs to be running and circulating the fluid
@@skrrtgarage3922 awesome. Any cycling through the gears before you drove it? Sorry for all the questions. Your video gave me the most confidence to do this. It seriously doesn’t seem that bad at all to do minus the mess it makes
Wat type of oil
Is that oil pan for the transmission made of steel or plastic?
The pan is metal 👍🏼
@@skrrtgarage3922 Awesome, thanks for letting me know. How do you see the overall wear and tear on components on yours? Do you see these cars standing up over the next 5-10 years?
No problem, i think these would easily last 5-10 years. There are a few maintenance items that will come up between 80-120k miles but that’s pretty normal. Thankfully no catastrophic issues
Next time you jack up your car put the jack STANDS UNDER THE CAR . Don’t trust the your jack to hold your car up .
Bro why is there so much fluid in there, like the drain plug did nothing
So smelly! Definitely not a fun job at all. The garage will smell for at least a month after.
You are 100% right 😂
That was cringe worthy with that oil drainage disaster. 🤦🏻♂️
Haha it was awful 😢
