When I was in Scotland a couple of years ago, I never met any Scottish blends before. But the evening after I arrived, being in a pub. The barkeeper says: Have you tried scottish liquor before? I sad no, he smiles and said: I have something you wanna discouver. He a glass on the bar and poured some liquer in. He said: Here you are. Taste our finest blend, When I take a nip. I was surprised about the taste close my eyes and really enjoy it. After that evening I put that on my list of highlights a I took a small bottle in my suitcase. Since than, sweet Scottish memories are going through my mind when I even smell that unique taste!
I was always a whyte and makay man ( can't justify single malts ),but having gone for the famous grouse as it was on offer, I have to say its as smooth a blended whiskey as I've had, especially for Scottish!
This was my second experience with Scotch whisky. My first was when I was young, it was JW Red and it was very unpleasant. I rather enjoyed Grouse and it made me want to experience more/better whiskies.
try red again with a bit of ice water in it, think the peat notes and robust flavours will surprise you, its a good neat sipper contrsry to popular beliefs knocking it down ,its a unique whisky not found much with the over hyped cherries etc its what whisky should taste like and a reference to others imo but of ou like milder sippers j&b rare is also good
I'm still a whiskey newbie, and this is my favorite -- it's too smooth. I tried the smoky black, Canadian club, crown royal, jack, Glenlivet founders 1824( really good, don't know why so many hate it)
That’s the best cheap scotch, perfect as it is, with ice or mixed with coke. It’s nothing special and this it’s special about. It’s the Toyota Corolla of whiskies. Not something to talk about but always there to do the job.
No complaints. Only a strong salt flavor after salty meals. My notes, nougat, toffee. Brown sugar, white pepper, Vanilla cigar, sea salt. Very similar to the 3 musketeers candy bar.
This is the only Whiskey that I enjoyed the taste, I don't like mixing so I tried a few of the more known Whiskeys in my Country but I hate all of them, most are too aggressive for my taste, but this is the best one just to pour a little out after a hard day and enjoy it in silence.
The Ruffled Grouse is the State Bird of Pennsylvania. Not sure how that translates to Scotland. I really like this Whisky. Nice finish, too.. Thx, Horst for the review. 😎
I need to HIGHLY recommend trying the Naked Grouse which is by the same bottling company as the Famous Grouse. The Naked version is a blended malt scotch whisky and I found it (here in the U.S. anyway) at 43%. Indeed the contributing malts from what I've gathered come from Glenturret, Highland Park, and Macallan.... Delicious and an INSTANT favorite for me............ SLAINTE!
@@rogerrabbit8756 Very much so and a STEAL at just over $25 after tax where I find it-----tastes like something that should cost more (to me anyway)..... The price is only two to three dollars more than the standard Famous Grouse per 750 ml bottle....
Totally agree. Naked Grouse is superb and in my opinion very much superior to Monkey Shoulder which is marketed and advertised extensively, and Naked Grouse not very well known.
@@cliffnorman178 Agreed. I've had Monkey Shoulder and while it is a decent blended malt scotch, the Naked Grouse is MUCH more flavorful and at the same time less expensive.....
My favourite cheap blended whisky is Teachers. I think Benedict made a video about it some two years ago. This one is nice, of course. Cosidering its price, it is a bargain. But taste is a bit raw. Which is expected. Teachers has a lot of malt content and it affects the taste, a lot of smoke as well.
Really? In Brazil, with very high taxes and after travelling more than 3000 kilometers from Scotland, costs less than 25 dollars or 100 brazilian reals.
@@CanalTRech Yeah Alcohol is quite expensive here in Norway. For a pint of beer you will usually need to pay close to €10. That being said - Norway is one of the most expensive countries in the world so it is not just about the alcohol.
I was given a bottle of this by someone before I ever drank whisky. Since then I've got into whisky but drink "good" single malt whiskies so this kinda sits there being ignored, will need to have it at some stage
Snob. Didn't take a second sip. I have all kinds of whisky in my collection (blends 18yr old single malts etc) and always, FG is somehow special tasting and satisfying.
Great review.. I haven’t had Famous Grouse for a while. I think I would prefer Teachers over it. Would you do w review of the Lidl Whiskey 🥃: Queen Margot.. there is an 8 YEAR OLD blend for about €18, I think it would make an excellent review as it’s a Highland blend!
I still haven't tried the Grouse, but Teachers is my definite go-to for cheap everyday sipping. I still haven't found a blend in the same price range that has the same character and richness of flavor.
it's re-reviews nowadays :) actual famous grouse is not what it was... i can't really recommand it anymore. for same price there are decent single malt (glen grant for example)
The smell and flavor profile of this whisky is not my choice. I've tasted a variaty of whiskeys over the years and this one make me reconsider Scotland whisky is over rated.

Weird. I can't digest Jim and Jack without Coke. As for Jameson, Johnny, Ballantine, Grant's, Scottish Leader, Tullamore Dew I can't force myself to drink them at all. Where as The Famous Grouse I can actually enjoy without any external help.
Agree, this brand has gone way down hill in the last few years, used to be excellent, poured the last bottle down the drain, too much grain whiskey, no malt.
The volume of your speaking fads in and out - very irritating. You should be more aware that one moment you speak loud enough to be heard and the next moment, I can't understand half the words you say and try to guess at what they are and turn up the volume and then you revert to speaking too loud only to return to whisper mode. The listening experience was more than enough for me to hit the dislike button. So, you are older than the hills, put yourself forward as an expert, and lack fundamental speaking skills. Maybe you should try a new line of work that excludes verbal communication. Cheers! It's been real, and it's been fun, but your RUclips channel ain't real fun.
I thought the bottle and white background was just a picture put in during editing until you moved it. 😅
me too!
