- Uhh, this one is clearly impossible. No death run for chapter 5 B-side. (you restart the entire chapter if you die holding the golden strawberry)
5B is pretty difficult. I did a lot of practice for this one, so I ended up not taking a lot attempts to clear it in the end. The furthest in I lost a golden strawberry run to was before entering the mirror (I died in the room with the spring on a moving block). So when I got to the mirror for the first time in a golden strawberry run (this run), I decided to not skip the mirror cutscene for the swag :)
(Chapter 5 has the best B-Side remix imo)
The first half the stage (before mirror) is harder than the second half. The first half has plenty of cycles and tight jumps, which can be pretty inconsistent for me. In the second half, the rooms just before the crystal are probably the hardest for me.
My practice method is simply applying what I've learnt from dustforce. Practicing the stage by going through it over and over again is far more efficient than grinding out golden strawberry runs. I only grab the golden strawberry once I know I have a pretty decent probability of getting it.
I love finding strats. I found pretty safe strats for a lot of the rooms. A lot of the rooms also have backup strats that cover many of the common ways I can mess up.
My favorite strat is the one at 2:45. I do an up+grabjump, then downdash onto the spring. Doing it this way means your timing is no longer dependent on the height at which you grab onto the platform. (without it, you'd have to adjust your timing depending on how high you are attached to the platform, it was terrible.)
I use setups for a lot of the jumps in the first post-mirror room too (the one with a lot of falling). To position myself over some of the tight gaps, I climb to the top until I am touching the ceiling, then do a regular walljump. That puts me directly over those gaps. I also make use of the fact that you have a smaller "crouching" hitbox while dashing. This lets me dash forward under a wall while grabbing onto the bottom of it.
For the seeker rooms, my strats involve a total of 16 seeker bonks. I ended up doing 17 seeker bonks in this run because I messed up a little in one of the rooms and had to switch to a backup strat.
Some tricks for dealing with seekers:
The easiest way to deal with them is to stand next to a wall, let the seeker charge you, then jump over the seeker, (optionally updash), and land on the seeker's head to bonk it. Seekers stop moving for about a second after colliding with a wall, giving you the perfect opportunity to jump on it.
I think if you are above a 45% angle from the seeker, the seeker moves only directly upwards. So you can jump off a high wall, and safely bonk the seeker by positioning yourself over the seeker while you fall (as it just moves directly upward into you).
If a seeker is directly below you while you are grabbing onto a wall, the seeker just moves upward until it bonks itself on your feet. This is a relatively safe way to disable the seeker.
Also, remember that you can press down to drop the crystal without throwing it.
Also, the "clearly impossible room" is purely muscle memory. Not hard after you practice it enough.
I don't plan to get the golden strawberries in all the chapters, just the ones that seem relatively within my reach. Some of the later chapters can be really long, and I'm not sure if I'm willing to put in those hours to practice/grind the longer chapters. (yes, I'm still saying this)
Congratulations. You helpes de a 101%lot
