I always understood jinshi’s worries about maomao being a courtesan and possibly taking on customers as a pure concern for her well-being, which I’d say is pretty understandable considering he cares about her?; it’s just maomao who misunderstands him in that moment (not the first and last time this happens)
And yeah, MaoMao gets kicked out of her food taster role since she's technically connected the 3 jerks who abducted her (and declared her their family). They declared her as family after they 'sold'' her (technically related to the others, not willingly).
This episode wraps up the first half and launches a new arc(s) in the second. A lot more about Maomao background, but also hints at links between mysteries she solved. Jinshi’s eventual efforts to redefine Maomao’s status and role will face a lot of challenges, as her objectives, passion, and interests are purely on medicine and being an apothecary. Anything else will not receive much attention by her. However, the new element of her being affected by Jinshi when he is sincere and acts his age may move her away (albeit only a bit) from her objectives. This is the camel’s nose under the tent so Maomao’s life and desires may indeed be on a new path. The annex woman points to a tragedy or at least a sad story from Maomao’s past, but as she notes her real family;Dad, Granny, and lively sisters are her hear support. Her passion, her being dense on Jinshi and her feelings, her wild gremlin-esque rampages, and s smidgeon of justice reminds me of our dear bookworm gremlin. I hope the next anime complements the wonderful story, characters, and world with art and song like this has.
One of the main things that kept me going back to the show in such a short period of time was the absolute downfall of jinshi. Him being this overconfident, practically narcissist that "only had to seduce" maomao, being utterly wrecked and tormented when she no longer was near him to being left completely speechless when she is given to him. Im a sucker for that trope and this slowburn is just the kinda meal I'm for
And with that, we have the first volume of the LN! Are you following the series by just the anime or did you read it as well?? I like that the anime brought a general sight of the things happening, not just Maomao's POV (which honestly missed a lot now that we have the anime lol) I wish i was more financial stable to support you and get to your discord to talk more about all of the series 😢
Yay! I still need to cover eps 10 and 11, but I'll have that up soon-ish. But yeah, we're done with LN vol 1~ I am an anime-only enjoyer. I actually watch the episode, and right after that read the LN chapters and manga that go along with the episode. I don't read ahead at all. It's too bad that some fans of the series are ruthless with the spoilers, I've already gotten some massive reveals when I was casually perusing social media so now I'm very careful and avoid all Apothecary Diaries communities because of it. Thank you so much for your comment! In exchange for him vouching for her to leave the rear palace for a short visit home, She introduced Lihaku to the star courtesan Pairin. He and Pairin got along very well and racked up the bill during his visit there. So now Maomao has to pay for the services rendered.
She got that millitary guy to vouch for her to go visit her father by getting him a session with Miemie (one of the 3 princess) at Verdigris house. She paid some from her palace wages, but time with Meimei is expensive and so she incurred a debt there with granny.
@@TheChatteringMagpi He didn't pay? In the military we had a name for a person like this. I thought she just had to arrange the meeting as payment for Lihaku's vouching for her. Thank-you for your reply.
Lol, you're forgiven, my child. >.< Actually I'm a little late in uploading this review so there really isn't anything to forgive. It was a great episode with plenty of fun Jishi and Maomao moments!

Agreed Jinshi turning into a total wreck after having been so sure of himself and his charms is ridiculously satisfying to watch
And don't forget his reactions whenever he sees one of Maomao's rare smiles! Hahahha😂
Every now and then Jinshi's...
Self breakdown...
Shocked due to MaoMao... Be it beauty or her antics🤣🤣🤣
Being annoyed and happy of being ignored🤣🤣🤣
I was going to ask what happened to episodes 10, 11 and 12, but part of the mystery has been solved.
Yay! Episode 12 overview 🎉🎉
As always... great work Magpi!😆
Thank you darling 😘

Surprised you don't have Frieren content also.
XiaoMao
Hears Jinshi say "Just a fingertip" and has flashbacks of Archer saying "Just the tip" (ruclips.net/video/SdXHW0DJEEU/видео.html)
He understands her more but not "truly", as Mao doesn't truly understand him.
Yeah. For a noble, he's made some pretty important progress, but he and Maomao have a ways to go before they can see eye to eye
I confused how she got into debt with the brothel?

Jinshi needs to step up his game😆
