- This is a rare and exceptionally special tour through one of the world’s most historic buildings.
Step back in time with this exclusive virtual tour of Sir Robert Falcon Scott's Terra Nova Hut at Cape Evans in Antarctica. This video shows the remarkable dwelling that served as the base for Scott's ill-fated Terra Nova Expedition to the South Pole in 1910-1913.
From the cramped living quarters to the meticulously preserved artifacts, every corner of the hut tells a story of endurance, scientific discovery, and ultimate tragedy. Rare footage and photos are shown of the hut’s stables which supported ponies and dogs during the expedition.
Seen here are the provisions, and personal belongings left behind by Scott and his team, offering poignant glimpses into their hopes, dreams, and struggles.
Through immersive footage and expert commentary, this video offers a rare opportunity to peer into the past and gain a deeper understanding of one of the most iconic chapters in polar exploration. Join us as we unravel the mysteries of Scott's Terra Nova Hut and pay tribute to the brave souls who ventured into the unknown in the name of science and adventure.
May their legacy live on.
What an incredible time capsule!
It sure is :) glad you enjoyed the video :)
That shot of the light coming through the square stable window… beautiful. Easy to picture Oates there with those poor ponies.
Thank you! I love playing with the light in these huts (when the sun is up)
"The worst journey in the world" is a fascinating book and well worth reading if you want a detailed insight into this expedition.
My favourite book ever
In South Africa, in the city of Pretoria, in the area of Queenswood, there was a high school called Clapham High School. The school was for a thousand students, divided into 4 "houses". However, as it grew larger and gained more scholars it required a 5th "house", and as such around the year 2008 the 5th house of Evans was added to the school and was coloured purple; joining the previous 4 houses of Wilson (red), Scott (yellow), Oates () and Bowers ().
(Blue and green, I can't remember which one was which)
That is absolutely epic. What amazing names for the 5 houses!
What's an amazing video. Thank you for the detailed explanation. I'm from the south Asian part of the world and hadn't come across content similar to this in a long while
Thank you so much for the kind comments. I’m glad you enjoyed the video 🙏
I was just watching a documentary about the terra nova expedition!!! What amazing timing :)
I hope you have an amazing night, down in brisk and breezy antarctica
Thanks so much! I really hope this video provides you with some additional information about what life was like for them! Thanks for watching 🙏
How does this not have more views?
I’m glad you like it :) hopefully more people will discover it soon :)
This is seriously incredibly cool! How amazing to see this time capsule of life lived.
Thanks so much. I’m glad you like it :)
Love this video it’s so informative. I so badly want to live and work in Antartica. I go to sleep thinking about Antartica, I wake up thinking about Antartica and while asleep dream about Antartica.
Thank you so much! It’s probably possible for you. If you’re interested I’ve written an E-Book about how to get a job in Antarctica! You can get a free copy at the link in my bio or at mattykjordan.com/ebook. I hope you enjoy it!
I’ve already read your whole ebook from start to finish every single word. Watched your pod cast about getting a job in Antartica, applied on both the Australian and New Zealand websites. I live and breath Antartica would literally be a dream come true to live and work in Antartica.
I’m no doctor, but that penguin in the shack looks a little sick. I hope you had the vet at the base take a look at him and he or she got the little fella back up on his feet. 🙏🏻
A vet 113 years ago would’ve been good for him
@Mattykjordan So, what are you saying? There’s no hope for the poor little guy??? 🥲
@@MattykjordanI don't know man, have you tried reanimating it?
@@DJChappie001I think they have a necromancer there. Sorry I was confusing them with dead lifters.
Dead.
I'm guessing that the table at 3:53 is where my favourite photo of that expedition was taken:
Uncle Bill Wilson, Birdie Bowers and Cheery Blackguard having just returned from Cape Crozier enjoying a meal.
Thanks for the video, I loved it.

That’s absolutely it. I love that photos, and knowing the story of what they just went through makes it all the more special
Another reason I enjoy your posts is the way you teach me about the amazing place you work in. ✨👏🥰
I’m so glad you enjoy it :) if you want to learn more, I’d love to invite you to listen to our podcast called Everything Antarctica. You can find it everywhere you get your podcasts
I am a listener to your podcast 👍🏻
Being such a cold environment it takes time capsule to another level. Fascinating. 😃
Omg those little penguin plush toys with official jackets! I wish I could buy one 😊
This is absolutely amazing! I can't believe how they were doing that without the technology that we have today!
Thanks! Yeah it’s crazy to think about how they lived
So fascinating!!
So cool man! Really well done 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Thanks so much! Really appreciate it 🙏
Very well presented! Excellent editing too, a masterful video. What do you work as?
Thank you 🙏 I’m a project manager with New Zealand’s Antarctic program 😁
Amazing, thank you!
My pleasure :)
I have a question, all theoretical. Let’s say something apocalyptic happened, how long would the people in Antarctica last and if indefinitely, how so?
Depends how much food and water they have
It makes me cry😭
Wonderful tour! I don't wish to be critical though Captain Scott was never knighted.
That’s a wonderful observation. Thanks for letting me know!
my buddy is headed to antarctica we were firefighters together in the states and thats what hes gonna be doing down there
That’s awesome! You ever thought about applying?
What happens if the ice is too thin or cracked?
Go back/change course how do you pick a new course to follow?
Yep, we’d try find another route
An authentic terrenator
Ok I wanted to ask I have 4 years military experience as a line cook, recently graduated from culinary school and am on my extern ship for the best 2 months. How do I get a position as a cook out there??? How would I go about it.

I thought for a second that you were going to do surgery to the penguin 🐧😅
Roald Amundsen was the man and my favorite polar explorer.
He sure was!
Very cool video!
Thanks Brandon :)
Are there any bugs in the base in Antarctica? Obviously not naturally, but ones that hitched a ride.
No bugs (as we know it) in Antarctica
If you work in either McMurdo or Scott base can you spend the night at the housing place?
You can’t. It’s a protected area
@@Mattykjordancan u still participate in activities
I would give anything to go there myself :( gonna try to find a way to get myself down south
You could probably work there. If you’re interested I’ve written an E-Book about how to get a job in Antarctica! You can get a free copy at the link in my bio or at mattykjordan.com/ebook. I hope you enjoy it!
This gives off the opposite vibes of the channel “Ghost Town Living” which is a channel where they restore an old Ghost mining town called Cerro Gordo and they regularly check out old places like this but their in Death Valley.
That sounds really cool
Pretty sure that channel was exposed as somewhat of a fraud
The date of this newspaper is 29-2-1908
So I’m curious, what is all the training you’ve gotta go through for this job
Theres quite a lot. We talk about that in some of our episode of the @everythingantarctica podcast. We’ve done an episode of living and working in Antarctica so you might like to listen to that :)
How cold was it inside the tent? Or was it warm?
This day was around -35°c
What is the correct response to Norwegians shooting at a dog? Were you trained for this eventuality?
🤣
how many people have died on Antarctica at this point?
That’s a good question. I have no idea
Does Antarctica have football games and if you do do you have a national team???
We used to play rugby
I have a couple questions number one why was that poor dog not buried and monument put up for him. Certainly, he was one of the first dogs to Antarctica .
Did the dog die during the time they were there and for some reason they literally didn’t bury the dog I’m I can’t imagine just leaving him there.
At first, I thought maybe his caretaker died leaving him to starve in the back of the stable, but why was he not with the rest of the team if they got out I can’t imagine a dog on or not burying their dog
I don't know exactly how they treated the dogs during the terra nova expedition, but if they did it similar to Amundsen, they had the dogs run free frequently. And yeah some dogs just run off or hide get lost etc, I would suspect that something like that might have happened with the dog.
Edit: I am not sure, but there is also a chance that the dog was from Shackleton's Ross sea party for his imperial trans Antarctic Expedition
the heroic age of antarctica exploration saw men risk and in some cases give their lives to conquer this last land frontier on earth this building and its contents are a historic shrine to human hentage in antarctica they are protected under the antarctic treaty and cared for by antarctic heritage trust for your benefit this site is threatended please finoncially support the antarctic heritage trust to help save it absolutely no smoking within or near this building there are heavy penalties for removing artfact
Man I would love to work at Antarctica mainly I do better in cold then heat plus I've been in -30
I also wouldn't mind be outside and I can do a mouse job easy peasy
Plus I know the Temps are double if not triple -30
If you’re serious I’ve written an E-Book about how to get a job in Antarctica! You can get a free copy at the link in my bio or at mattykjordan.com/ebook. I hope you enjoy it!
@Mattykjordan yeah I am serious I mean cold is easy to counteract then heat plus I love the cold and don't mind it
I've been in negative Temps and people think I am crazy for loving the cold lolololol
The dog skeleton is so fuckin sad
I think I want to be here mom but I have mom😭😭😭😭
Ernest Shackleton bader
Any ghost stories from your trips? Would love to know!
Na no ghost stories
Your being mind controlled by a mind controlled.
Hopeless talk less.
i can still smell the aroma of Scott's farts as i pass thru parts of the hut.
What luck to catch a wiff, treated with an exciting trip.
