I pulled out the gearbox and I found what went wrong. I have a replacement gearbox so after building over the parts I can fix my unimog. Hopefully in time for my holiday!

Don't think you can get that bolt head INTO the gear box. Seal behind the output flange. Likely the bolts loosened due to ujoint yoke contact (which is common), bolt snapped off and got jamed between the joint and the torque tube bowl and locked up the front axles causing internal trans damage. Check the inside of the torque tube bowl, you'll like see some pretty good size nicks from the bold head. Again, pretty common on the 6 bolt flanges and why they upgraded to the 12 bolt flange.
You can also remove the gear box the same way if you have the radio box on the original hight, it's just a bit more finicky but doable. 👍
Good bit of detection work there Victor. The bolt head could have jamed the gears and made an even bigger mess of the gearbox.

That is a tire iron. I have 20inch hazet and a 24inch heyco
Is the case aluminum? If so would you be able to TIG weld the crack so you can still use the case?
