At the beginning of I Samuel, chapter 3, we learn how God called out to the young Samuel in the darkness, trying to get the boy’s attention. But, this is a tale of misunderstanding. This account of Samuel is much more than just a cute story about a little boy who lives in the tabernacle. It is the story of a holy God who calls leaders of every age to account, in this case, Eli, who raised Samuel. In times when everyone seems to be doing what is right in their own eyes, we need more people who will answer the call: “Speak, Lord, for your servant hears!”
