Your video is the first one I came across in hopes I’d find a way to fix this exact spark/lightning problem in my microwave, after that I learned the model of my microwave and luckily Amazon happened to have the exact model’s waveguide cut out available , Just received it in the mail this morning and replaced it and so far it seems to be okay , no sparks or burning and I hope it lasts me a long while. Thank you very much!

This video helped me fix my microwave. It started sparking for no reason that made sense to me. After watching the video, I removed both covers, made sure they were clean, and I cleaned behind them too. Once I was satisfied that they were clean enough, I placed them back on, although I switched out their positions, and it worked. I will still buy some extra material, so I have it on hand for the next time. Thanks :)

As I see our magnetron's cover is in a very similar condition, I hope replacement will do, thank you!
Edit: it works so far! Wonderful

You forgot to mention if this fix actually stopped things from catching on fire in the microwave, like pieces of ham? Do they not catch fire any more now that you put something new over the magnetron?

Sorry if I did not mention this was the fix in the video, but the title says it is a fix.

The exact same part was catching fire in my microwave. I ordered a new microwave from Amazon. I think I can fix the old one, though. Looks easy enough !?

Looks like planned obsolescence when the manufacturer puts a flammable material INTO an over

would the graphite/clay from the pencil outline risk it catching fire again?

I think it is too small to be a problem but you can wipe it off before you finish if you think it could be a problem.

My microwave is a KitchenAid microwave/oven combo but you will find this on all brands.

is there any tape or glue that i can use to put this piece on with? there are no screws for mine

I have read putting tape in the microwave can release toxic chemicals into your food. Somee microwaves use screws as a some just have little metal tabs to hold this in. How was the old piece mounted to the wall?

I just did this for a Panasonic microwave. No screws. I had to pry the old piece out with tweezers. New one slid up into a notch and then I had to bow the bottom corners to tuck them in. Little tricky

Let me see some RUclips putting the microwave motor on some boards and the fire shoots through it using the lichtenberg method
