So many bottles today are $150+ that it's easy to have your excitement level go way way down. Anything at those levels you really need a sample or have a track record with a brand. Too many good solid $50 to go that crazy over every high priced bottle.
Great video Carlos! I would have to say the Hazmat craze for me. I’m already over people saying, “if it’s not hazmat…..” Also if you ever get a taste for Blue Run again go to Seelbachs. They have about 32,000 expressions I think all the way back to last Christmas. Cheers
Playing with the pricier bottles makes it easy to become not excited, because they very often seem not worth the cost. I find I am most excited when I find bottles in the $45 range that drink way above their price.
As I drink through my bottle of Weller 12, I keep thinking of other whiskeys that I would prefer over it. It seriously needs to get back to the $40 to $50 price range.
Man, I completely understand the lack of excitement towards some Rare Character picks. Honestly, the RIO batches have been great, but not outstanding to me. The batch that has impressed me though, is K13, and I'm not just saying that because we picked a barrel of it. I chose it in a blind against EHT BP, actually. Rare Character is always batch dependent though, and my excitement for it depends on what I know about it.
Nice vid as always Carlos. Agree with the hype over Blanton's but I still like the taste. Wish the regular Blanton's had the Proof & taste of the Gold though. I was fortunate and stocked up on Blanton's back when it was $50 to $55 a bottle. The current price of $75 plus tax is crazy for what you get imo. But, take that with a grain of salt since I have 2 cases bunkered and almost a case on the bar and backup shelves. I really like Rare Character but I always taste it before buying it as , like you said, so many of them. Blue Run was never a fan of their lousy to ok overpriced whiskey. I am over Peerless with their very good higher end stuff but crazy price strategy the use. Too many others beat them in a blind and cost less (or even the same just better). The cigar craze reminds me of the beer IPA craze where every beer was called an IPA even when it was obviously not an IPA. I do love JMCB but the price is just so high for a bottle me and my friends can finish in one evening. I do like the RY3 and Wheel Horse cigar blends as well as Dalmore but stopped buying others.
Hmm. What I'm finding that is tamping down my excitement for Bourbons is the rising costs on even the staples. RR Store picks are close to $90 now like ECBP store picks. OF SB BP Bourbon store picks I'm done with as well. What is also factoring in is availability. Before I could get excited because I didn't see certain bottles. Now that they're always there I'm not excited anymore.
Not a fan of regular Blanton’s. Last 2 bottles were skunky tasting. I do like Blanton’s Gold and SFTB. Agree with you on Four Gate. I have a bunch of the Kelvin Collaborations and Private Selects, a Kelvin Sixty and Triple Oak. Do not think I will be buying another at those prices. 🥃
If everything is 100+$ , which used to be special bottle prices, then nothing is special. I don't buy much over 100 without trying it. Got burned to many times. I'm really just into finding lesser known brands now

That Starlight Cigar Batch is outstanding. I do get your point but that one is pretty good.
I remember now. I'm not excited about the HH BIB 7 year anymore. Last one I had was super woody for some reason.

Now I don't feel bad that none of those ever excited me.
Hype over for all these bottles and with all the fear of missing out all gone. Lol
Most of the cask strength whiskey has made the “ I’m not excited “ list.

My list is anything over 100 bucks.
