      Bringing a whole Starship would have been prohibitively heavy and without storable propellent, the propellent would boil off long before the Starship even landed on Titan. If one were used, ISRU would be a requirement, which I worked to avoid so that the mission's success wasn't dependent on it. Still an interesting suggestion though, I might use it for similar missions in the future!

    • @leriku2270
      @leriku2270 2 года назад +1

      @@EntropianVFX oh yeah didnt think about that. also the docking port/airlock is pretty high up on the starships body, might create an unbalanced center of mass and cause problems during burns. 2 starships horizontally on the sides tho should be safe.

    • @isaiahphillip4112
      @isaiahphillip4112 2 года назад +2

      @@EntropianVFX There's no reason why you can't keep the propellant refrigerated if you have a power source and enough radiators, boil-off is only a problem when you have no active cooling solution, which would be needed for a mission of this type anyways.
      If you brought a Starship with just landing propellant, that would be about 120-150 tons which doesn't seem that far out of the question based on the amount of mass it looks like you brought, plus Starship would combine your ascent vehicle, surface base infrastructure, and possible even the exploratory hopper vehicles all into one.
      The extra mass for ISRU seems like the only real concern here.

    For the cargo hauler, why not save a bunch of dry mass and land the entire surface base truss section itself, rather than the individual modules? Include a small skycrane or even just a few separatrons to clear the base sections once it's down, and you wouldn't need to drag the empty truss around. Could even stick the mothership in a cycler orbit for an easy Saturn cargo ferry.

  • @SubtleHawk
    @SubtleHawk Год назад +1

    These are amazing! Just subscribed. One thing I'd love to see though is missions that leave from places other than Earth. I think a big part of colonizing the Moon is being able to mine it and build stuff in orbit without having to fight Earth's gravity, so it would be cool to see a ship being assembled in lunar orbit for a future mission like this one. A mission in which all the supplies except the crew and maybe a few other things come from outside Earth.

    You could just use the space plain instead of a ascent or decent modules. Put one space plane onto the mothership then use the space plane to glide down to the surface. Then you can explore with that space plane and then use that space plane to come back into orbit and dock with the mothership and use that same space plane to return back to earth.
