The 5x Optical zoom tech periscope zoom is very interesting! I hope other manufacturers implment it with more interesting prospective. I like how OEMs are pushing the boundaries of what we thought a smartphone can do :)
It's not new, Asus did it back in 2016 with their Zenfone Zoom. Never got any accolades because the resulting pictures and phone weren't as amazing as the tech press wanted even though technologically it was quite the feat having 1-3X optical zooming using a periscope lens array. www.asus.com/us/Phone/ZenFone-Zoom-ZX551ML/ www.tomsguide.com/us/asus-zenfone-zoom,review-3378.html
@@Panzer_Z I don't think that's a periscope in in the same way though. Here, it's varying the length between the lens and the sensor in the same way making the tube longer in early sailing style periscopes. Think of a pirate pulling his periscope open in movies. I guess zoom always kind of relies on making stacked lenses farther apart though so IDK. This seems different somehow. Maybe just me?
@@benjmiester The Zoom physically moved multiple lens to achieve variable zoom with fixed position prisms at both ends... sounds about the same to me. Unless you are saying that they are actually zooming by physically moving the sensor closer or farther away from the light source.
At 2:02 about the Bayer filter, is there any downside when switching from green to yellow? If the yellow lets in more light then why don't other camera sensors in the market use it? Is it because Huawei-Leica just created it, or is it because there's a trade-off to using yellow? Thanks in advance for any answers, loved the video! ^^ *EDIT :* Michael answered my tweet asking about this. Gonna copy-paste his reply here : "I asked this in my briefing. Apparently going from RGGB to RYYB requires completely reworking how photos are processed, so it's not a minor undertaking. Maybe some of Huawei's R&D investment coming through, and no doubt a large amount of input from Leica"
I kinda guessed that would be the answer. Huawei has been promising to revolutionize smartphone cameras for years. They must have been investing in developing this for a long time
More on this: Just had two meetings with Huawei and Leica back-to-back. What I gleaned from each (because the answers are always kind of fuzzy) is that Leica's role is to help Huawei understand what "a good photo" looks like, and advises them on the best means to achieve that through hardware and software. So the sensor design seems to be entirely Huawei's, with input from "working closely" (they love that phrase) with Leica. Another person said that when Huawei decides it wants to build a new phone, a group of people from Huawei and Leica get together to decide 1) what new camera features should be included, and 2) how best to implement that feature. So it does seem like they have a pretty blended working partnership.
@@TheMrMobile I don't understand. Is this RYYB implementation a function of CMOS image sensor, or is it done in another way? Because if it is merely a different CMOS sensor than other smartphone makers are also soon gonna get their hands on the sensor from Sony.
@@devendragovil All I know at this point is they literally swapped out the green photosensors for yellow ones, and (according to Huawei) the resulting change meant they had to re-design much of how the camera processes images. Only Huawei can make me regret buying my Huawei Mate 20pro 😅😂😂😂😂😂😂😭 JK I'm happy with my mate20pro for the next 3 years 😅
The best review ever 👍👍
After seeing OneUI these custom skins look so outdated.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. You need to narrate movies, the quality of your voice is undeniable.
There is no technobuffalo anymore(
Yellow is also the other basic color that, with red and blue, can compose all the others. Green can be done with yellow + blue
It takes a stupid to put d-brand screen on this device.
I had the Huawei P20 Pro and loved everything but the software, I couldn't get used to it, I love the Galaxy S10+ but Huawei is kicking some serious arse, and the cameras are just getting better, the P30 Pro could be the phone that knocks them all to top spot this year and that's not even selling in the US, if it was, it might of been top spot last year.
it looks awesome !!! cant wait to carry one myself, either this or Mate20 pro
Love your vids! Keep it up!
As always....Mr Mobile carries the day......
Huawei reigniting the mobile industry with superb innovations.
My next phone! My P20 Pro has been great all this time and I know this will be better!
He should have more than million subs.
That tone at 2:14 reminds me of something ominous about to happen in Star Trek. Haha Great video as always!
M. Fisher is the man !! Nice work !!
