    I am very impressed with your ingenious solutions for field stacking! I came up with a very similar device but it was too bulky for practical use in the field. I am working on a new system that uses the tiny sled stepper motors from DVD drives, but they lack the torque to drive the NiSi rail accurately. What motor are you using with the rail - it looks like a regular DC motor - and what are you driving it with? Thanks for sharing this excellent footage! Allan

      if you talk about the footage at 14sec, i chosse an APC-c sensor, add 2 leds spots , and close a little bit the aperture, increased the ISO, and try to reach 1/50sec. all the little trick to have a bigger deep of fied in video. i don't know how canon manage the sensor in full HD video, but the deep of filed is not sod bad. for a 20mpx picture it is another story.

    • @stephanesimoens51
      @stephanesimoens51  2 года назад +1

      with the R6 i use an high speed card in raw, the buffer/RAM can shoot continuously at 20 img/sec during 6 or 7 seconds (numeric shutter) . as i use no flash in outdoor with the diy motorized rail the parameters are 2,8 to be as faster as possible (about 1/200 or 1/320) . i use helicon focus. but i guess the jpg is the best way.

    hey man ,love your shots. Is it possible to get similar quality/ ultra macro without having a rail? I know how to focus stack, but could similar effect be achieved just by closed aperture plus strong flash + diffuser? or is focus stacking always better?

    • @stephanesimoens51
      @stephanesimoens51  Год назад +1

      the issue is the aperture, at F11 most of lenses create diffraction, and the image become less and less sharp. it get worst at F14 F22 etc.. another way could be use a macro lense with a shorter focal combine with a small sensor. a micro four third mcro lense with a Olympus OMD is a good combo.

    • @stephanesimoens51
      @stephanesimoens51  2 месяца назад +1

      on the R6 canon there is the option: exposure simulation? but at f2.8 normally this is where there is the most light. But as I don't use flash I keep a speed higher than 1/60, I stay at 2.8, and I increase the ISO if necessary up to 6400 max

      @@stephanesimoens51 Thanks Stephane, I tried the lens on a really old Nikon (D7100) and suddenly I can see through the viewfinder. It appears that the mirrorless camera is faked out by not knowing the F stop so Nikon in their infinite wisdom appear to have made an assumption that it's f32 and shut down the sensor. On the reflex camera it does not have this issue. Weird, but at least now I can turn to Nikon for an answer.

      The idea is to kept the same speed abd try to be at 1/200 at least. 1/500 is better. During 1/500 sec the mouvement is so short tgat there is almost no difference with à fix position. But if you move too fast the deep of field is too narrow to cover the displacement

    • @stephanesimoens51
      @stephanesimoens51  2 года назад +1

      Yes. The contactors of the extender are cover by a tape. So the dslr does not detect the électronic and works well. I add a short extender tube between the lens and the extender to avoid clash. I tried with x2 and x1.4 on apsc and it was close to x20. But the top of the laowa is very close to the subject.
