  • I decided to do a little loop today from the Switzer Picnic Area in the Angeles National Forest out to Long Canyon through Arroyo Seco and Royal Gorge, and then back along the Gabrielino Trail. I first stopped at Switzer Falls. I was only at the lower falls for a short period of time. It was 7:30AM and there were maybe ~5-6 people there and more on their way. It's a nice spot and I wanted to go to the upper falls, but there were two people o the ropes (one person was on the upper section and the other was between the upper and the lower section waiting). Didn't want to wait so I decided to head to Bear Canyon Trail to enjoy the lightly trafficked trail with six gorgeous cascading pools. They are quite massive compared to some of the pools you wind up seeing along rivers or creeks in the area. I did a cold plunge in the first pool, and then jumper into the fourth pool (the deep one). At the sixth pool, I went a little ways up Little Bear Canyon, but then turned around when it seemed a little sketchy. I made it past one obstacle, but I felt like I needed rope for the second obstacle. There were some nice cascades and a cute little waterfall. I then went to Royal Gorge. There was a nice waterfall before Royal Pool. I love Royal Pool because it's a natural waterslide with a huge pool and is usually very secluded. When I've gone, I've had it to myself, which isn't usually the case for Switzer Falls and even the pools along Bear Canyon trail as people do hike that trail. I spent a good chunk of time at royal pool and then continued down getting footage of water snakes (garter snakes), frogs, and me eating blackberries. I soaked at the Long Canyon Waterfall (I like to call Long Canyon Falls, but there is a seasonal waterfall that is pretty epic in that canyon - it wasn't flowing) and the hiked/jogged back to the Switzer Picnic Area along Gabrielino Trail. It was a great day! I love Royal Pool and finding waterfalls in the Angeles Forest and the San Gabriel Mountains!!
This is going below all videos in my long form content:
FYI: I explore a lot and stumble upon many different things. The way I go about sharing locations is that if someone tells me to keep a spot secret before I wind up finding it on my own, I keep those spots secret. Otherwise, I share information at my own discretion because I like sharing what I find. I may take things down, obscure locations, or remove data upon request as I have done in the past, but a lot of the places I visit are less well known (because I'm exploring), so I could potentially be removing everything if I did things the other way around, which I don't want to do.
If there is a spot you'd like me to keep secret (if I find it), let me know BEFORE. I change my mind about what I keep secret on my own, but if we talk, I am much less likely to jeopardize my integrity than change my mind. There are a few secrets I don't share with people because I agree to keep these spots on the down low (even when I have heard about them through different parties before visiting). If I find a spot on my own on publicly accessible land and I decided to share it despite you not wanting me to, THAT'S ON YOU. These areas are for everyone to enjoy, explore, and share with the world. Feel free to reach out. I am a reasonable person.

They're great! Royal pool was awesome! I went back to some of the videos you made a while back. I didn't realize it was 4.5 miles away but I guess the fact that it's along the creek in the shade makes it nice even with the wading, rock hopping, and bushwhacking.

It was amazing!!! It's definably worth it but a little more effort than some of the other pools in the area. Jesse St Louis made some great videos few years ago on this spot. Also, unless you want to do the full loop, I suggest bringing a rope. I kind of wish I had, but I still had a great time in the pool.

The Gabrielino Trail seems to go all the way to Mount Wilson Observatory, and passes some pretty great spots. Like Sturtevant falls

@@hikebytes It's a pretty long trail, it would neat to try and do the whole thing at once. I think Silver Moccasin is also like that but goes even further.

I was just looking at one of Jesse St Louis's videos and he said it was about 4.5 miles. It didn't feel too bad because it was all along a creek and mostly in the shade, but it did require a bit of wading and bushwhacking at times.

There are a pair of yellow sunglasses at the bottom of Bear Canyon #4 😎🌟

Dang, I should have gotten them for you. I think I saw you post that on istagram, but it slipped my mind when I was there. They're in the jumping pool right (I think I call it the fourth pool in the video)?

@@nature_exploring Correct! It’s a solid 10 foot dive down there! Now I’m going to have to search Royal Gorge for part of a waterproof cellphone case :) That slide is definitely more than I can handle. Still free shades lol!😂

@@ZacharyObama The slide is fun, I'm bummed out that I dropped half of the case somewhere. It's passed royal pool down the gorge. I think I know roughly where it is but I couldn't find it. There was another pools I soaked in (not in the video) and I think I dropped it after that and before the snake I filmed (I left the zipper open on the case that was holding it by mistake).
