Great job again Jeremy! You saved another locomotive from being a shelf queen. I thought it was done when that commutator plate came off, but you were able to get it back on and running again. Outstanding! Tom
Fantastic repair on the 221 Rio Grande Alco Jeremy. I think you have it running better than it was when it was new! Thanks for pointing out the differences between the various Alco's that Lionel produced. Good information to know for those of us on the lookout for reasonably priced engines.
@TooManyHobbiesJeremy that is cool. You were truly one with that Alco. Now you have an extra special attachment to it. My girlfriend bought me that same engine a few years ago. So I have a special attachment to mine.
Great job!! You did a lot to rise it from the dead. Yeah I'm in California and shipping is very expensive, I purchased two bulbs for my engines which was $5.00 and the shipping was $6.50 from the Midwest, but not no more will I purchase from a supplier in the Midwest and they the supplier is quick to tell you it was COVID and I ask them WHAT THE HELL , DID THE PART CATCH COVID TOO!SO THEY HAVE TO SHIP IT A SPECIAL WAY? 😂😂😂
Thank you, this was a rewarding repair. Agreed shipping is super expensive. I see it both, in stuff I purchase and stuff I ship out UPS for my job (parts consultant)
that broken commutator problem was also a thing in the HO Lionels.... unfortunately, on mine all three broke off and I have no way to realign them. Otherwise looks like another good running engine.
2:58 Are the couplers on these ever spring-loaded? I need a coupler for my 1055 Texas Special. The coupler on Trainz doesn't seem to include the spring but there's one on eBay with it.

Thanks so much Tom. I really appreciate it.

Much appreciated Brad. I lucked out that super glue worked 👍
Marx guy here, that 221 is a very versatile little loc. and easy to upgrade to your desires. I do that all the time to my vintage Marx Tin.
Marx had some really neat locos. Thanks for watching.
That was an awesome job. I never would have thought of using superglue on the comutator plate.
Thank you Paul. I think I lucked out for sure. I also glued part of my thumb to the motor for a few seconds

Jeremy, nice work on the Rio Grande Alco. It is an attractive engine.
Thanks Steve The shell cleaned up really nice!
really great video. good repair. the loco is a very basic one but you made it run better than new.
Thank you. I really like the yellow shell on this one. A fun, yet challenging repair.
Nice fix Jeremy !!
Thanks Ray, it was touch and go with that commutator failure (that I was partly responsible for )
I also have the “triple deuce” Rio Grande ALCO. It is the ultimate gutless wonder. 2wd, no reverse, no bell, no horn, no traction.
I read that there was a variation on the 222 that was really cut down. Didn't know about the lack of a traction tire though.

Very basic but still a neat little engine. Good video ❤
Thanks, it was a good challenge
Looks like fun 👍🏻
Thanks! It was a frustrating but rewarding repair.
@@TooManyHobbiesJeremy model railroading develops patience and dexterity and a lot of fun as well.

Very interesting! Thanks for the info 😎
You should add a light. Nice led.
Yep! I have to get some more lenses. Just doesn't look right to me without a lens.
@TooManyHobbiesJeremy They really got the colour scheme right.

So there is a centering spring. The newer springs are a bit too light in my opinion. The spring number is 222-130
@@TooManyHobbiesJeremy Thanks for your help!
