Yelgun Rest Area: Ballina's Beauty Revealed

Thank you for joining us as we embark on our journey. In this video, we delve into the exploration of the Free Rest Area at Yelgun, shedding light on the confusion surrounding camping regulations at both Yelgun and Sleepy Hollow, both situated on the Pacific Highway North of Ballina.
Following our exploration, we venture into Ballina, traversing through its vibrant town centre before immersing ourselves in the beauty of its beaches, culminating in a visit to the picturesque Shelly Beach. While seeking out a suitable dog beach for Kahra, we encountered challenges, as the only option we found required navigating through intricate pathways and dunes. Ultimately, we opted to return to town and discovered the tranquil RSL Park, where we could enjoy some relaxation.
After replenishing our supplies and gathering information from the Ballina Visitor Information Centre, our quest led us to hunt down The Big Prawn.
Ballina, a stunning coastal town nestled in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Australia, lies 740 kilometres north of Sydney and 185 kilometres south of Brisbane. Renowned for its breathtaking beaches, coastal walks, and an array of historical and tourist attractions, Ballina serves as a gateway to the renowned Byron Bay, catering to diverse preferences and interests.

Yelgun & Sleepy hollow Rest Area
Situated conveniently either 32 kilometres south of Chinderah or 50 kilometres north of Ballina, this Rest Area is easily accessed via the Ocean Shores off-ramp from both directions. Boasting amenities such as toilets, it warmly welcomes dogs and is accommodating to RVs, camper trailers, and caravans. However, please note that tent camping and overnight stays in vans or caravans are not permitted at this location.

Sleepy Hollow Rest Area
Located 59.3 kilometres north of Ballina along the Pacific Highway, this rest area provides accessible respite for southbound vehicles. Recently designated as a 'No overnight Stopping' zone, it remains a crucial spot for travellers to take a break, enhancing the safety and enjoyment of their journey. While intended for rest and fatigue management, it's essential to note that these areas are not suitable for camping. Amenities include toilets, picnic tables, rubbish bins, and a playground, catering to both truck and car drivers. To ensure smooth operations, please refrain from parking in designated truck areas, allowing ample space for trucks to park, and adhere to their mandatory rest periods.

Great video Karah, never been able to work Yelgun rest area out, although it says No Camping people have always camped there and there usually is a coffee van there as you mentioned. Hope you enjoyed your stay in our area, it’s a beautiful part of the country. Safe travels from Ballina 🇦🇺🤙🏽
