  • Danish/Italian Dancer, Vittoria Lasorella's warm up for dance. She is an amazing dancer, coreographer and teacher, who has a rare combination of both power and grace. This girl is seriously strong and very powerful with beautiful feminine graceful moves and flow, She dances as she is light as a feather and yet grounded as a mountain. If you are anywhere near Aarhus, check her out. You won't regret it. I've had the great pleasure of working with her at several occasions.
I Filmed her at Brobjergskolens Studio 4 in Aarhus. Using a Canon 7D and a 8-16mm Sigma Lens. The music was recorded using Apple Logic Pro and for guitar the Kemper Profiling Amp. I used a Rahbek Cos-T and a Rahbek Classic for the guitar parts.

Hey there! I know I'm "late to the party"...as the saying goes...but here goes....
My opinion is based on a 30+ career teaching modern/contemporary, ballet, jazz and choreographing all abilities and ages.. This is a wonderful, full bodied warm up...obviously it is her personal warm up, so it is good for her body. It is clear that she understands how to warm up the body, sequential...using rotary and axial movements...getting deep into the joints in a fluid and gentle manner. Since she has been a teacher, too, I'm fairly certain that she would adapt and modify her personal warm up to accommodate the needs of her students. I also agree with Serentara, that the integration of somatic studies (linking the mind and body in a sensitive manner) is wholly a part of all good modern classes today... Gone are the days of strict tendus, plies, contraction/release, fall and recovery, etc., that were the hallmarks of the "major modern dancers" (read: techniques of Martha Graham, Doris Humphrey, Jose Limon, etc). Yoga, in particular, has influenced many modern/contemporary dance teachers "tool box" of techniques that allow each dancer to learn how to work with less tension and stress and to discover how they, as individuals, can inhabit the choreographed movement more authentically. There is a move away from simply "seeing and doing" and copying shape...there is a movement toward "embodying" movement throughout the dance world. Sorry, I wasn't more concise!!! (Obviously, passionate about teaching movement) ;-)

It is Vittorias warm up routine and i filmed it. How you warm up is your business.

I just want to say: stretch and warm-up are 2 different things.

+dancedeern Actually plies, tondu and other foot work, and going in and out of the floor are the very definition of a modern dance warm up. You'll find it in almost every class out there.
