  • Guillermo Del Toro has worked with a few studios over the years but one that he admittedly seems an odd fit for is Disney. But believe it or not, at one point he was chosen to helm a reboot of The Haunted Mansion in the early 2010's. What would've have been like?

He would have been the perfect director for a movie like this and to actually capture the eerie yet whimsical elements of the ride, it’s a shame it never got made

Guillermo del Toro is the perfect guy to make a scary movie that takes the Disney franchise to another level. Like “vacaciones de terror” (it’s a Mexican horror movie don’t look for it to terrifying) mixted with the haunted mantion but not quite remember he’s (memo) very good at getting the people inside the skin of the heroes but after that he drown you in to the villain to. Wanted or not. 👍🏼 hope Disney realize what they’re missing up

I totally agree, I am so pissed off that this film was never made. I'm a huge Haunted Mansion fan and a huge fan of Del Toro. He is THE perfect person to make a Haunted Mansion film. I worry that the new film Disney is making will have no edge and will be lighter in tone when Haunted Mansion should be dark and spooky! Disney has lost their edge in recent years in the name of making films that are "for everyone". No film should be "for everyone", it should be for the audience the film is made for, in this case a PG-13 film for older kids and adults. I know I am already on a rant here, but Walt Disney himself knew the importance of scaring children. Just look at Snow White, Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty, or The Legend of Sleepy Hollow short from The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad! These films contained plenty of scary imagery and moments that for sure scared kids, but kids still loved and continue to love these movies. Anyway, so disappointed we will never get to see Del Toro's Haunted Mansion movie masterpiece.

If it's anything like jungle cruise I'm excited to see what they do now. There was alot of care put into the set design and effects in haunted mansion but no real substance or "ride" you really go on. Like the hitchhikers are one of the most iconic parts of the ride and they weren't fleshed out and just opted to show and not tell in the worst way. I want to know these ghouls not gawk at them. If we're going into ooky territory give them gags give them lines I don't care at all about a butler not present in the ride the servants don't care vapid indistinguishable haunts. Maybe I care about the master of the house but they went with the most vapid storyline for him as well why can't they have a curse. And he tries to save all people under his roof they all haunt him and he kills himself out of guilt and or insanity. That's much more interesting then the butler did it. And it's more on par with the original storyline when it was in preproduction

The irony that they're remaking the haunted Mansion movie because the original one sucked and was mediocre with a movie that is going to in turn suck and be mediocre. Now I haven't seen it yet but it has all the components to do just that.

This plot is quite similar to Crimson Peak and the Corse Bride don’t you think
What if In the mountain of madness was made
What if Tim Burton did made the Scooby Doo movie?

Honestly Del Toros movie would’ve been a great improvement over the newest version . What a shame it hasn’t been made.

It feels like the background story is backwards. The bride would have killed Madame Leota, that’s why see that headstone as you entertained the mansion open it’s eyes, not just that her head would be off too. the story would probably revolved around the bride

As a parent, massive fan of HM, delToro, horror and The Pirates franchise, 1000x yes. I would take my kids to see a scarier version.
It should be goosebumps or scary stories to tell in the dark level horror. Or Addams fam, or gremlins.
Disney understands it’s RIDE is not for everyone so they should embrace that for the film.
What the Eddie M led film did was a disappointing cash grab.
GDT has lots of XP making family movies and could 100% make an excellent film
And presently, I have little hope for the newest film in production

The more I hear about it and think about it the more irritated I become. Tiffany Haddish? The broad who directed that abomination Ghostbusters movie? It's like they're setting it up to suck. I think they should not have pursued it past that point if they weren't going to do it justice. But having seen such garbage such as Muppets haunted Mansion it's obvious that Disney it's definitely settling for a cornier tone when it comes to how they treat this ride cinematically. It's gonna suck.

Tiffany Haddish had nothing to do with the Ghostbusters 2016 movie or any ghostbusters movie in general. I don't know where you got that information from.

The Muppets haunted mansion was actually pretty good, it gives both fans of the muppets and the mansion what they want. Plus I feel like the film had a sense of heart in what it was trying to do.

On the day after the release of the Teaser Trailer for the Haunted Mansion 2023, which looks to be another comedic disaster, Guillermo DelTorro would have been perfect and a gift sent straight from heaven for Disney's Haunted Mansion. IF it had been TOO scary for kids it could have been fixed, that's what editing and pick-up shots are for. It was a horrible call to not have DeToro do it, and in the end it will cost Disney a few billion in movie and merchandise revenue. So, so sad!!

In my opinion if this movie were to be made it should’ve been a hard PG-13. Not a PG, not an R-somewhere in the middle.

I actually don't hate the 2003 movie. I don't think it's as bad as its reputation. That being said, it should have been scarier. Eddie Murphy's family friendly comedy shtick wasn't right for this property.

the HM that was made was a MESS! Honestly there is a LOT of adult situations in MArvel movies - they are really not for kids - just the humour. They are filming a version of it that he is involved with the person who wrote it though is the same who did the AWFUL Ghostbusters movie! Dear Gods, I hope this isn't going to be shite, but they finally did say Jered Leto is the Hat Box Ghost! Honestly, I would have rather it be Doug Jones using his own voice

    1. What’s that annoying clicking sound?
    2. Has anyone ever told you that you sound like Sheldon Cooper?
    3. Correction: Disney do not care about a child audience. They only care about a woke one.
