I'm using a 14U44B Singer Serger Sewing Machine, and when making a tote bag for an example with an inner & outer linings, I have noticed that one of the layers becomes either shorter or longer in length. This is especially very noticeable when doing both sides of the tote bag at the same time, 4 layers of material). Any help would be appreciated from this 77 who started sewing 7 months ago for underprivilege children. I make or should I say 'I try', different projects for these kids.

If you sew the seams in opposite directions, you can get different lengths. Try sewing the seams from the same direction. Example: sew left side of zipper from top to bottom, and right side also from top to bottom. If you sew the left side from top to bottom and the right side from bottom to top, they will not match.

@@jandhtektips Thanks for your time and explaining in detail. I will definitely try this advise on the next tote bag. I don't use zippers as of yet, that would be new waters to step into right now for me. There's no one else around this household who sews but me, so advise & opinions are sometime hard to find.
      Thanks again.
      God Bless
