    "Drive like you're terrified" is terrible advice. If you do that you'll drive more skittish which leads to accidents. If you're scared to drive, DO NOT get on the road, you're just as much of a danger to everyone around you and YOU become the obstacle, you'll over correct, hesitate in your movements and driving is partially a matter of watching what others do and reacting accordingly. if you dont drive with confidence, others wont be able to tell what you're doing and respond accordingly to keep you or themselves safe. Drive ALERT, not like you're scared, be smart, careful but confident.

    • @utatanepiko7087

      I wish my family knew this too. I'm deathly afraid to learn to drive because I don't want to be a burden to the wrong person and they actually hurt me due to road rage, and because I don't like the idea of putting my life in other people's hands. I only get in cars with people who doesn't look at their phone or only looks at it at stoplights (because I always tell them if a light is green anyway)
      One reason why I hate riding with my mom is that she looks at her phone when using Google Maps instead of having an automated voice tell her when to turn and where to look if she's on the street her destination is on. And her reason for that is because "Siri made her do an illegal u-turn when telling her to turn around" in front of a patrolling cop car, which is a poor excuse :/

      great advice. be alert, not afraid. i was rear ended on the highway which had me traumatized for a bit. nobody understood why me being that anxious made driving more dangerous - especially since my right leg tends to shake when anxious. it took some therapy but now i am back to it. life happens even when you don't do anything wrong, and it drives me insane seeing people not do the bare minimum to ensure them and everyone around them isn't hurt by a literal ton of steel

    Isn't the whole "drive with anxiety and expect people to make mistakes" part of the problem though? If you constantly drive while feeling afraid, you're gonna most likely cause an accident yourself due to the intensity of that emotion making you not think straight! The best course of action when driving is be completely aware of whats in front of you and around you/in your peripheral view. Defensive driving can really save you, and having confidence while on the road really helps you be more aware of things + what you're doing instead of being a nervous nelly behind the wheel

      Odd I would have expected less effort for $300. Lazy teaching from the manual and a couple hours in a car is pretty average.
      Searching for defensive driving might help instead of 'driving instructor' which could be a regulated term where you live.
      Where I work we're not even allowed to teach anything that's not in actual traffic code because the classes and testing here are objective (strictly the law, no instructor opinions, no manual).
      Here, if you want teaching that is subjective (varies by instructor) you'd have to go to something like defensive driving which is unregulated, but they aren't going to explain much traffic code and it's super expensive.
      Though if the instruction you mentioned is already teaching from the DMV manual your kid is already being taught subjectively. I mean try bringing a DMV manual to court to defend yourself... I'm sure the judge and prosecution will find it hilarious, but their faces will stay like this :|

      And, i remember getting my license like the week before my permit expired, grand total of 15 minutes, one big circle near the DMV
      My grandmother, in a somewhat annoyed tone asked why it took my mother 3 tries to get her license
      i’m 90% sure i could’ve run over a child and still passed, i definitely sped, was *way* too close to the car in front of me more than once, and almost ran a red (in 15 minutes)
      My only mistake was “oversteering”

    My boyfriend and I drive a shitload for our job. We’ve been in 2 accidents that totaled both cars that were the other drivers fault. I was in an accident as a child too that fucked me up. It wasn’t super bad but it has made me terrified of driving. I’m so scared of being in an accident and getting stuck in the car because I’m also very claustrophobic. It’s fucking awful, other drivers scare me so much. The first accident was because a guy fell asleep coming down an exit ramp where we had stopped at a stop sign and just plowed right into us then. The second one was because a dumbass kid pulled out in front of us thinking we had a stop sign, which we didn’t. My nose was bleeding and I screamed in that kids face which I’m not proud of. And by kid I mean at least 18. But we got a 2 year old car out of it in 2019 and we’re almost done paying it off.

    *Stop at every intersection that doesn't have a traffic light, or at the absolute minimum at least, slow down.*
    All my fingers and toes are not enough to count the amount of times I could've been in an accident if I didn't slow down or stop at an intersection.

  • @Popper_Drop

    42:15 I'm from Australia and the roads in the US are wild with the people on them 💀The process of getting your license is FAR more in depth over here. First you have to take a written test to get your learners permit where you then need to display a yellow square "L plate" on the front and back of your vehicle and must always drive with a fully licensed driver in the passenger seat and must not exceed 90kmph (55.9mph). You keep a log book of the conditions you drive in, the time, the distance travelled by marking down your odometer readings. You need a total of 120 hours (20 of which have to be night hours and you need to have it for at least a year so no speed running) in order to take your actual driving test as well as a "hazard perception test".
    If you pass the those you pay a fee and upgrade your license to red "P plates", now you can drive on your own and you don't need a log book but you're still not allowed to exceed speeds of 90kmph and you have to be on them for a year. Then you come to pay a fee for your green "P plates" now, the limit is now 100kmph (62mph) and you have to hold that license for 2 years. After all that, congratulations! You're now a fully licensed driver!
    You're able to get your L plates when you're 16 but no earlier. Getting into an accident, speeding ticket or DUI can all put this on hold. If your license gets suspended your plate progress is paused. Which brings up another thing, zero tolerance for the whole time. Being "under the BAC limit" is only something applies to fully licensed drivers and you are NOT able to register for ANY alcohol while at any stage of learning or you can lose your license
    Imagine my shock when I was in the states with my partner having to dodge everyone on the highway because they're psychos that don't indicate and swerve violently into other lanes. Under 6 months of learning to drive (with no visual display of who's ACTUALLY learning) compared to the absolute minimum of 4 whole ass years.

    • @thectyptid00
      @thectyptid00 4 месяца назад +2

      In my country we can’t get drivers license until 18, we have a zero tolerance policy for alcohol and there is a popular cool saying that encourages defensive driving that roughly translates to “let the idiot have the road”. If you see someone acting stupid, let them by, let them go, don’t do anything, don’t put yourself at risk.
      Also in big cities there are cameras everywhere, that automatically register any illegal driving, including not yielding to pedestrians, and fines are very high. Like, 1 day of reckless driving (think, 2 cameras caught you speeding, you blew a red light, you didn’t yield to a pedestrian, you drove in the bus lane, changed lanes illegally) can easily cost you 1000-2000 dollars worth of fines. And you can’t really fight it in court, cause you were caught in 4K doing it

    • @Popper_Drop
      @Popper_Drop 4 месяца назад +2

      @thectyptid00 we have something like that with cameras too! They work like red light cameras but they detect if you have your phone in your hand and snap a picture of you.
      The purpose of our hazard perception test is for defensive driving as well. The rule of thumb is ALWAYS "If you can't see to make a proper judgement, slow down or stop". Like if you're turning at an intersection but theres a truck stopped and blocking another oncoming lane from view.
      We still have a lot of dumb drivers over here but compared to the frequency I saw them in America the difference was insane

    • @migo70
      @migo70 4 месяца назад +1

      In the UK you have to do a theory test before you get a provisional license, from there you HAVE to take driving lessons, you are taught driving is a privilege and you are essentially driving a loaded gun. After the lessons you then take a practical test which many do not pass first time. The cost of all of this is between £1000-2000 before you've even bought and insured your own car. Like yours you can only drive with someone who is above a certain age and has a full drivers license and need a 'L' plate. Once you pass it is recommended to drive with the 'P' plate but not mandatory.

    I am a local resident in the area of the clip at 9:45, This is at the intersection at 522 and Paradise Valley Road/Paradise Lake Road.
    This type of crash is all too common at that intersection as people run the light on the highway.
    the light is also poorly timed with a fairly short Yellow before it turns red.
    This crash happens at least 6 to 8 times a month.
    It is also immediatly after a turn if going northbound and sort of around a bend if coming southbound. so not very well placed.
    The worst is when a dump truck is hit by a car, the dump trucks are usually minimally damaged and the cars completely wrecked.
    The roads around this area are not well designed and have alot of issues.
    Highway 9 was widened in the last few years and they had to put in a divider for it due to the amount of wrecks that happened on it.
    On highway 9 there is a U-turn that is in part of a turn where there was a near-fatal crash between a Semi truck and a garbage truck, the semi driver went unconsious and continued driving straight and went head on into the garbage truck.
    I was in the car immediately behind the Semi.
    Woodinville is also having major traffic issues among a few areas where demand is high and roadways are limited.
    Part of woodinville's expansion is adding more stacked housing without enough parking or more roadways for traffic. so traffic through woodinville sucks and is only going to get worse.

      @Stickmanzed The difference is, if it's on a place like the road, stupid people are more dangerous. More dangerous on there or at a workplace (depending on the job) as opposed to just say, just being around said person. With that in mind, I can't be convinced I won't get in some kind of accident. Everyone always makes it sound so safe, easy, and like it's a need, but it's not any of those things. At least, not if you have always have others in your life that's always willing to take you places, I guess. Like my family takes me shopping when they go because I live with them. I know people need to drive to get to places, but I don't.

      @@animefan1047 There is not a difference if you are a passenger vs being the driver. You are using this as an excuse to not learn, not a valid reason.

    I heard from some driving instructor that you have a better chance of survival if you got into a crash that doesn't rapidly stop the car or change it's direction of travel.
    Basically, T-bone crashes, head-on collisions, or a very hard hit while stopped are the worst.

    Fun fact that I learned due to my grandpa being a trucker: Long haul truckers can only legally drive for about 10 hours at a time because trucking companies don't want them to risk falling asleep at the wheel. It's a liability thing. Most long haulers have sleeper cabins on their rigs which is why when you're driving for extended periods, there are 18-wheelers parked on the side either with their hazards on or reflectors out.

  • @TheLakeMorgan
    @TheLakeMorgan 3 месяца назад +1

    At 12:25 the truck didn't run the light. It was out in the road when the light was still yellow, which gives that truck the right-away during the red light (At least it does in South Carolina).

    I was so terrified to learn how to drive in 2008. I didn’t even want to get my learner’s permit. Mom made me though and soon after my dad died and my grandparents got sick so I had no choice but to learn how to drive. I still to this day drive with that touch of naive fear and mistrust in people and keep myself very vigilant. I almost didn’t get my license because of how nervous I was, and even though I’m comfortable now, I’ll never be 100% because I’ve always had that fear of being in a bad accident.

      The mistrust of others isnt a naive thing. It never goes away. It is a good thing to assume all other drivers are morons. Helps keep you from trusting them when you shouldnt have.

    We had a deer run into our car too! Scared the shit out of us. We were heading to work in a residential area with some woods here and there. It had to of hit us with just its head because it dented the car, left some hair and scratches then dipped the fuck out. Never saw it either. It was dark and we went back to make sure it wasn’t a person because people walk this road with no reflectors on but there was nothing laying there. Scary shit.

    As an accident adjuster, 30-40 year olds have the most accidents. They tend to learn the new technology in their cars and trust it more than looking behind them and backing out. Also the guy merging was 100% at fault even if the dude was speeding you can’t merge unless you know it’s safe.

    Take it from somebody who worked at mvc. If you go double the speed limit, you will lose your license and never get it back, and god help you if it's in a 25mph zone.

    story time: my father was driving a small rental car last year, and he was stuck in heavy traffic on a highway. A semi truck driver behind him was on his phone, and light rear ended him 5-6 times before he finally realized what was going on. My father has been in far worse accidents though, he's fine.

    I’ve made a handful of mistakes on the road and saved myself from other’s mistakes countless times. Not the worst example but it haunts me the most, driving at night on a 55 mph double lane highway, a car coming the other way gets into the left turn lane and proceeds to pull a u turn into my lane. Had enough time to slow down, didn’t have to stop, but it was jarring, everything but slammed the brakes, had already started to slow down when I saw them in the turn lane in case that happened and didn’t slam brakes because of the cars behind me, so I just eased into it and matched their pace. Anyways I was like 2 feet behind them when our speeds matched and all I saw was this poor little Labrador behind the hatchback glass looking at me like it was about to cry

    I don't know if I'm desensitized from being a lawyer regarding the stupid things people do on the road, but these videos sure are fun to watch. It's also fun to watch people spin their level of fault in situations where everyone's fault is clear from the dashcams. If you are in an accident where the other party runs a red light, find someone with a dash cam around you because the other party WILL claim they had a green.

    If that was a Fusion Hybrid, its entirely possible that the insurance company took the car because the hybrid system in those cars. I had a minor accident with a deer in mine and drove off, 2 months later after i had the report go through (I was still driving the car.) The insurance company notified me that they were totalling the car. They called me while I was driving it.

    Live in Fresno in the opposite side of where 51:06 takes place. The camera cuts off the green arrow light to the right of the main ones. Many drivers see that from afar thinking the main lights are still green and don't see the red lights until it's too late. Had a lot of close calls when I go through there.
