- A pex fitting failed inside of one of my dustcrete walls. Here, I tear into the wall, effect repairs, and replace the dustcrete.

Thanks for this follow-up video. I really appreciate how hard it can be to document small mistakes like these. But thanks to your hard work, this one served a greater purpose. I am looking forward to trying dustcrete. And seeing how easy it is to work with after it's cured is very reassuring. Thanks again!
If my errors can add to all of our knowledge base I’m down to expose them. 😉
What's stopping your from creating forms that make building these walls as easy as making either solid blocks, or cinder blocks, etc?
Vids that explain what to do when things don't go as planned are very helpful.
I'm seriously considering Building a fairly large cabin with this method I'm highly impressed with the product.thank You and I'm watching all Your vids
I was just checking in last night to see if you posted any more dustcrete videos. Prayers were answered.
More coming soon! Going to trial clay instead of cement. 😉
I just did a 4x8 test panel with wood chips from a local tree service and it seems to be holding up very well. I'm going to be making a 10 x20 tiny home next with it. Your videos are great and very well put together. Thank you.
Fantastic! Best of luck with your build.
Had the wood chips had enough time to dry out or does that not matter?
Nice to hear from you. Any verification is comforting.
Thanks for this, I still don’t trust pexs, I love how easy this was to patch and using a multi tool is a great tip.
We appreciate the update, thanks.
Now I'm plastering my log house with the same mixture, only with the addition of red clay. This composition was traditional for the insulation of rural houses in the USSR . It is called thermolite in local literature.
That is great! Others have informed me of the long tradition with this mixture in Eastern Europe. Maybe if our governments hadn’t spent the last 60 years acting like spoiled toddlers we would have been able to share more insights.
Are you using Portland in the mix? I have plans to test a mix of clay and lime without the cement.
@@radicalgastronomy I use pure cement without additives. 1 part cement, 1 part slaked lime, 6 parts sawdust, 1 part dry wood chips. I mix these components in dry form, then I make clay milk from raw clay and water 1:1. everything is mixed together to the desired consistency. I use this to plaster the walls. Although cement is considered to be not friendly with clay, lime binds them. Previously, we plastered with clay and straw. The straw was just like reinforcement. But the clay itself takes a long time to dry. It's faster with cement.
Excellent quality content! You are great. Will work with dustcrete and keep you in touch.
THANKS FOR INFORMATIONS.
Seems pretty convenient to not have to demo the whole wall just to get to an embedded pipe!
Excellent work !!
Thank you!
I’m planning to start using your method this summer in my cabin building endeavors
Outstanding. I’m here if you have any questions.
Big knowledge always gets so much air time, so fortunate how now little knowledge has a way to spread far and wide. Awesome work. Thanks!
The leak provided an opportunity…a great way to look at irritation work. Impressive material…
Thrilled to see another video about dustcrete- and another one coming. I am putting in a shower stall in a couple of months so I'm looking forward to your video. Thank you very much. (Your trusty assistant is so sweet!)
She’s the best!

Robert Murray Smith (tinkering n things) his vids are primarily about electric power generation. He did some vids on graphene and how to make it. He also did one on adding graphene to concrete. And the results were astounding ,it very greatly increased the compression strength. ....can't wait to build something out in az. Next spring.
I wonder if I could enclose a metal double carport with hogwire and dustcret.. ..my imagination is running wild
Excellent video, please keep up the videos on dustcrete, it is a very good idea and application.
Great work! Thanks for sharing this with us! I love the dustcrete idea and am considering using it as interior walls in our straw bale house build.
Thank you I haven't been concernd still the more information we have the better. You can use wood tool's but the cement will Dall & were them down be aware and don't sacrifice tools you can't replace.
Yeah, these multi tool blades and sawzall blades are probably the most appropriate.
Well done sir. Thank you for the video
Thanks for making this video
What would be the R value on this type of wall, at this thickness? Looking to build an off-grid passive solar home but it needs to have a high value.
Thank you so much for these videos!
Amazing stuff, thank you for sharing! Do you have any video of a fire test?
Wow!!! Thanks so excited about this material. Fire proof as well I'd guess, like Hempcrete that costs a fortune! Wonder also does it act as an air filter like Hempcrete?
That is my assumption.
I wonder if you might be able to even reuse the dustcrete that you chiseled out of the wall by simply mixing it in with a new batch - although you might have to pulverize it into smaller pieces first. This seems great.
By the way, I saw a video of someone making styrocrete - gaining many of the same benefits of aircrete without the hassle of fickleness while recycling a lot of Styrofoam at the same time.
Very intresting! Iam doing a research on materials which are in low cost and sustainable aswell for house/dome building. What would you sugest for building small guestdome? Do you think dustcrete would do the job?
Thanks in advance,
Best regards from Lithuania.👍
It sure would. Have a good build!
I just found your videos and I'm hooked. Now I have a mobile hole and I'm looking to redo my bathroom how crazy would it be if I did my walla around it with this and I seal it with tiles of course my floor will be redone also.
It could work great. Hard to say without seeing it, but maybe.
@radicalgastronomy thanks it's a fixer upper for sure. After doing a walk around I think my kitchen would be a good place to start. The wall behind the stove I'm thinking it's around 6' long with maybe 6' tall. I'm guesstimating
Soy de Argentina ,estaria bueno que estuvieran subtitulados los videos.
Gracias
4:00 no pressure test again? lol I just discovered your channel and very interested in alternative concrete ideas. You make really nice projects; thanks for the vids. Subbed!
Nice. Yeah, again no pressure test, but I did leave it exposed for about a month. 🤪
How viable is the dustcrete technique for other climate zones. For instances, my climate zone is Texas, Zone 8. Would this provide adequate R value and moisture protection for a zone such as mine?
I think it would work well. I haven’t tried it in humid climates, but this examination leads me to believe you would have no issues.
@@radicalgastronomy I'm going to try this very soon in Alabama. I'm excited to see how well it performs in this humidity.
Have you used this method of dust create on a metal surface? I have a carport i would like to (insulate) use this technique.
I never have. You might want to paint the metal first. I have no idea how moisture between the dustcrete and metal would effect the integrity of the metal. I suppose, in the worst case, the metal would rust away, leaving a dustcrete building. 🤷🏼♂️
*Does sawdust size matter?*
It does. Too fine and it won’t have much r value. I’ve used wood chips, and they have potential, but would be best screened down to around 1”.
I just did a 4x8 test panel with wood chips from a local tree service and it seems to be holding up very well. I'm going to be making a 10 x20 tiny home next with it. Your videos are great and very well put together. Thank you.

Can you post a video of it?
Who pruned the tree?
Some hack. 🤣
I've been thinking about something like this dustcrete for some time and yup, someone already tried this :)
You changed ratio of mix from half year ago (now more cement and lime), was the original recepture too soft?
Umm... Question did pressure test it before resealing it in the wall?
Yeah, with the water. 🤪 Left it open for 2 weeks before back filling.
How much cubic feet of dustcrete is made from these recopies.
About 2
Pretty sure you pressure-tested the Sharkbite before applying the new dustcrete, but you didn't show that.
What is the "R" value per inch of dust Crete, if you know, please? Thank you
I don’t know. It stays a nice even temperature in there. My guess is R-3/“, but haven’t tested.
F frumos!😂😂😂❤
Is the Dustcrete cool in the summer?
Any thoughts on Earth Tubes as a cooling method? (Cedaredge specifically)
It is cool in the summer! I’m not familiar with Earth Tubes. I’ll dig into them. Howdy, neighbor!
That’s a great approach. Like a low tech geothermal system. I like it.
So now we've seen it with water, what about fire?
I’ll film a fire test. ;)
Why not building another interior stud walls for the plumbing pipes next to the dustcrete stud walls, so you don't need to break the dustcrete wall every time for a leak.
Another perfect example of why I will never use pex pipe and the ridiculous fittings used on pex. And shark bites are no better.
Copper is still king, in my book!
How about PEX A? I got the Milwaukee expansion tool, cost a lot but saves money on fittings and leaks.
Shark bites are great if you can't solder and create easy access to them.
I. I came across a 1920's formulation that sounds similar to yours. They used a product called "mineralised sawdust".
I can find anything on this. Im assuming they soaked/sprayed sawdust with something like borax.
Have you found anything like this?
I hear tell there is quite a bit of something similar in Poland. I haven’t nailed down the process, but there is historical support for the concept.
C'mon, own up! You put a leaky fitting in there on purpose. Seriously though, you said it has been two years, how long would you estimate that dustcrete stayed wet?
Like 6 months, at least. 😬
@@radicalgastronomy Wow, the dustcrete held up surprisingly well. Thank you for posting this.
This is very interesting. Thanks for sharing
Would you be willing to make an e.g. 6 inch block out of this material and stress test it with a hammer after curing? And / or put weight on it (without impact) to see how much pressure it can take?
Do you think it is also applicable for this garden box type
ruclips.net/video/yuSBwFkCiAw/видео.html
Can it withstand pressure from the side?
This repair video is an important part of this "series" about this material. Don't know if you're the inventor of this mix, but i think you helped a lot of people to broaden their perception.
For some reason, he reminds me of Barbara Eden.
She played in that series.
Genie ass
Are u gay or something? 🤔 😂😂
