I came here not knowing quite what to expect but holy shit this is amazing.
Thank you! Here's another song from the same concert. ruclips.net/video/UgGZWh7Z9eo/видео.html
The first part was good but when the tablas came, thats when the magic started for me! Amazing blend of tabla and jazz drumming!
Thanks!!
I was about to change the video before the tabla came on and then i saw your comment, so i waited. Totally worth it!
Amazing. Why does this not have views in millions?
Music needs to get back to something like this...this is like Santana 50 years ago...free spirits, just go for it.
I saw Mr batish live at a bar called a time and place in Muskegon Michigan back in the 90s absolutely awesome
Fun gig! Great memories
His bass player deserves credit _ words can’t describe how great this band is!
Was listening to some rock like fusion music played on a Japanese shamisen and was curious to find out what an Indian string instrument like sitar or veena would sound like in a fusion. Reached here, not disappointed.
This guy is one of my favorite sitar players, simply amazing.
Thanks sketch and jam!!
Holy crap Misirlou is just improvised Bhairav! DAMN DAMN DAMN!
Digging the sound since the days of 1-800-RAGMALA. Much props, Ashwin. Respect
Wow ... long time!! Thanks Stello!
Although I am more akin towards music in its purer form, but fusion experiments must go on. This one is particularly very good to ears.
WoW, Ashwin Batish...Greetings from Sri Lanka
this is wonderful.
Ashwin Batish - talented musician; magic fingers on the Sitar and Tabla!
Thank you! Just uploaded this video. Have fun. ruclips.net/video/rtmFgAxinAM/видео.htmlfeature=shared
Phenomenal musicianship!
Thank you Nathan!
I was looking for these kind of music and found this, especially looking for sitar and congas combination
These guys are awesome. I've heard all kinds of instruments used for jazz. Violins, synthesizers, banjos. I always wondered if anyone ever tried using a sitar for jazz. I guess they have. What's the actual name of the band? They should name it something simple that people can remember. No one's ever going to forget The Grateful Dead for example but Ashwin Batish, Kuumbwa Jazz, if that's their name, that's another story. There's got to be a play on words they could use. Raga and Roll or something but more jazzy.
The name of the band is Sitar Power. Been around since the 80s. Appreciate your comments. When Ashwin started, he got this coverage ruclips.net/video/yz2Tg6e5Jz8/видео.html
Sitar Power. That's perfect. I won't forget that. Thanks.

Raga Bhairava rockout - a Sitar Power #music exclusive :) Featuring my son Keshav Batish on Drum set and my friend Myron Dove on bass.
+ragmala the song is very beautiful and sounds very familiar , can you please share your influences and inspiration Im interested in listening to more similar music and thanks in advance
Thanks Omar. The scale is called Bhairava and the style of playing is really the brain child of of our musical founder Ashwin Batish. He started this back in the mid 80s. He has produced several albums in this vein that you might want to check out. Look for his music by name "Ashwin Batish" in iTunes etc. Other music by the Batish family can also be accessed there. Thanks for your comments and interests. Hope you can catch him in concert. His live music performances are a sight to behold. His musical influences are his father Pandit Shiv Dayal Batish who was one of the legendary Bollywood music composers and singers from 1930 -1965 time period. Many of his old songs can be heard on RUclips.
Nice, I like the way all instruments work together, specially Sitar, awesome instrument.

Nice!! Love East meets West tunes!! I guess I can thank George Harrison and Ravi Shankar for that. Has a Spanish casbah feel, and @4:19 love the flight of the bumble bee sound!!!
I was thinking about Ashwin Batish, how his family had their restaurant on Hwy 1, with the dais set in the middle for impromptu concerts from the master himself…we didn’t know what we had, eh?
Awesome bass solo
