- In this video, I take y'all on the 5th gen 4Runner's maiden towing voyage towing our 3,000 lb off-grid trailer. How will she do? Does she need more power? Tune in and find out!

she might not be the best vehicle to tow with, but she'll pretty much do anything you'll throw at it. rock crawl, a week or more of camping, take the kids out, go shopping. the list is endless and still offers you one of the best resale values out there. oh, i forgot and tow. have fun with her and be safe out there. love my 2016 4runner trail.
I bought a ‘24 4 Runner and I already have a special bond with it. Love it!!!
I tow with my 4Runner, a bit heavier than you are towing. Around 3,800 loaded, tow in S-4 makes a huge difference.
Confirmed it tows great towing a 6x12 U-Haul trailer, and separately, a U-Haul car dolly with Honda civic loaded down. Both times were cross-country. Just us manual shift towing up a grad and keep in S4 the entire time.
Great video. Just what I’ve been looking for.
Keep the videos coming
Love that color!
Love it !
I just got mine Wednesday loving the color beats the heck out of the black one I had.
Congrats!
Towed a bunch with Tacomas and 4runners, not the best but they get the job done.
Definitely want trailer brakes like you have if towing much more than a utility trailer.
I don't blame you at all for doing what you did, I had a 2013 Tundra with like 55,000 on it bought a 1794 2021, just because of the V6, bullshit. 5.7 and drive train bullet proof. Good decision fella!
Thes vest suv ever men i have one too 22 4runner lovet good video brother
I tow a boat with my 2015 4Runner. Basically maxed out at 5k pounds and it does fine. It’s not too hilly in my area but it would be ok in the hills as long as you’re not in a hurry.
Nice video. Liking the 4Runner content. (Hope to get one myself soon). And….. I have never heard of Hop Splash until now. Is it any good?
@@CrippleCreekStudios Thanks, amigo! Hop Splash is a great hop water/NA alternative. It's quite refreshing!
@@ZetaDogProductions Now you have me curious. I’m not a big fan of the hard seltzers.
Nice video-I have the exact same 4Runner…just curious about when you plan on doing the initial oil change.
Thank you! I’ll probably do the first oil soon; I’m a little over 1,000 miles.
@@ZetaDogProductionsgetting late already, did mine at 500, anyway just my opinion
I traded a 2019 F150 for my 2024 4runner and it tows 3000lb better that the F150. Not as much power, but it's stiffer and seems to ride much smoother when towing. The F150 always felt like the frame was flexing.
Put a Ott tune in it
Thanks for the video. Quick question why didn’t you shift from 4 to 5?
From all the research I have done on towing with a 4Runner, 4th gear is supposedly the most effective gear for towing. Keeping it in "S" mode limits your transmission from shifting to 5th gear, as it limits the gear range from 1 to 4.
@@ZetaDogProductions thank you for the reply. I appreciate it.
Throw a supercharger on there and you'll be good. 👌🏾
Good info, I couldn't help but notice your receiver, why is it extended so far behind the hitch ? It looks like 18 inches and that's a lot of leverage, it also looks like an 1/1/4 hitch instead of 2"?
@@rickdougherty1371 it's a lock and roll hitch, which extends out a bit. It's a 2'.
Not a towpig but it will outlast everything else on the road
Can always upgrade to a mansion supercharger and tow 7,000 lbs
Hello…Do you have it in ECO mode? The engine setting that is…
@@robertonunez9621 There's no "eco mode" per se. The eco light kicks on when you are maximizing fuel economy by not pushing the vehicle. You can turn the light off in the center stack settings.
I have a you guessed it: 21 4Runner SR5 Premium. Truck is awesome but ever since we purchased it with 44K miles and now at 54K miles, I feel as if there is excessive road feedback that vibrates through to the steering wheel. Wheel balance helped and had vehicle aligned but still there. Do you experience this with yours? Mine is all stock. Feel it more at hwy speeds. Ty!
@@4Runner21 I do feel a slight vibration in the steering wheel at 60 mph only. I've read that this is a normal characteristic of 4Runners, similar (but not as drastic) as the death wobble in Jeeps.
@@ZetaDogProductions very true most def not that insane wobble. I’m still on the fence at times at whether I’m willing to over look this characteristic of the 4Runner given its proven reliability because it bugs me lol, especially going over bumps in the road it feels worst. Thanks for the feedback. Have you experienced this more over bumps also? Ty! And you have an awesome rig!
@@4Runner21 Thanks for the kind words! The vibration on mine goes away at around 65 mph, and honestly, I don't even notice it much anymore. I don't get it when going over bumps. Do you have the Dunlaps or Nitro Grapplers? I wonder how much difference different tires makes.
@@ZetaDogProductions I was thinking maybe the tires are the cause, but they are so new, I would hate to buy new ones. I have the DUNLOP AT20 GRANDTREK 265/70/17
Definitely when it comes time for tires, a different brand will be sampled lol
does it come with a transmission cooler? I forget... not that you need it if you're within the load spex ❤
No transmission cooler included. I might add one down the road for peace of mind. Also, nice videos lately!
They are a little sluggish in towing close to 4k pounds. Braking is the bad part. Lots of nose dive. Also not that stable at high speeds at 70mph.
Great for towing small trailers locally though.
@@ryanb8736 At 3,000 lbs, I find that the counterweight of the trailer helps mitigate the nose dive. The brake controller also does a nice job of helping with braking. I found no issues with stability at 70-75 mph on some highway stretches.
@@ryanb8736 I towed the bigger u-haul enclosed 12 foot trailer with my 21 4Runner , trailer was fully packed to the ceiling and could definitely feel the weight back there. My guess was probably close to 4K pounds maybe. I didn’t feel to confident over 65mph but nonetheless it got the job done.
I just traded a gx460 in for a 4Runner. If you think the nose dive is bad on a 4Runner. You’d be miserable with a Gx. I swapped the shocks to bolstering and it improved it dramatically.
Hi there, I hope you doing well. Just one complain please stop calling 4Runner a ‘she’. Thank you.
This! It's annoying
why is that a problem
