I have family of engineers who constantly whinge at these methods. But i find them fascinating. In Australia people in the desert centre are known to use fencing wire and post to fiz suspension etc and it works for them. You guys are excellent welders and spot on measuring. Please keep going as many of us love it. I lived years "off road" and people in town wouldn't believe things i did.....their loss.

Not to take away from their innovation but just make it work isn't the same as make it last.

Probably it will last more than a new part

At this point work is probably more important than last.😊

It kindof depends on what caused the failure. If something very unusual broke it then the repair is probably fine for normal operating conditions. At any rate, it was well done considering the tools available.

Whatever they say but, there is nothing so good as licking the sweat from your brows [ preverably by a lovely wife] after a hard days works when you can say "I created that!" That's life at it's rawist point.😊

This temporary work because of bad welding repair, surface welding won’t last longer, it must be deep V groove welding to hold better and last longer.

You’d be jailed if you did that in the UK. Scrap it for everyone’s sake, it’s a failed part. Probably a casting defect.

In the US such repair procedure is not accepted at all , because these heat treated gears and once exposed to weld , it became malleable and brittle .
