- Picked up a cheap 30 dollar ebay seat cover replacement to try out on my 3rd Gen 4runner. It was not too hard to get off the old leather to install. I will let you know how it lasts and if I have any issues here in the comments.

UPDATE: I ordered a top and had to use a different seller. The color is slightly off from the bottom. In hindsight I should have realized I would want to replace everything and should have just bought a full set at once. I will post a vid of installing the top and you will see it.
This was a great video on how to replace the bottom seat cover for my 1998 4Runner. I bought the covers from a different manufacturer which was made of leather. The cover had some type of small hard wooden rod stiched in as a replacement for the metal rods. It worked just like your blue strips. Thank you so much for the time you put in to make and edit this video. You saved me a lot of time and money to have a shop do it.

Thank you so much for the video! It was extremely helpful. I have had a torn seat for a few years on my 3rd gen. I didn't like how seat covers felt, so I rocked the torn drivers seat for most of the time. Just spent the afternoon doing this and it looks much better. I couldn't get the seat bottom to look perfect, but it's pretty close. I ordered the new foam as well, so it's really nice to have new, untorn foam with the new seat bottom. Thanks again!
Fantastic video, thank you! I took a steamer & hot gun to the leather seats afterwards. It helped get rid of some of the wrinkles.

Thanks for great video, well explained steps. Did you notice any stitching getting getting pulled tight enough to break if hog rings pulled hard on new cover. Planning the same on our 2000 4Runner front leather seats, but will also be dealing with power seat mechanisms.

Great video. My cover came in the mail today. Will be doing installation as soon as I get the hog ring pliers. Thinking about using grommets where the mounting bolts go in?
Great video! I need to do the seats on my 2002 4runner. Only problem is I can't find seat backs or complete sets in gray. Still looking.
Good luck! If you find them I hope you can get the bottoms and backs from the same place. I bought a back that doesn't match well with the original seat bottom I installed in the video. So ended up buying another seat bottom to match, and am not super happy with the fit of the new set. I just posted a video of the seatback if you want to see it. If you go straight to the end of the video you can see the color difference and how loose the new set fits. If you find them in gray , hopefully you will be able to see a picture of them installed to know how they will fit. Thanks! I think about 30 min to an hour to complete my first one. But I was also filming. It really went pretty quick once the seat is out of the car.

Hi, Here are the links, but unfortunately I bought the top from a different seller, and the color is slightly off from the bottom I ordered and used in the video. I had originally just planned on replacing the bottom, then changed my mind and since the seller of the bottom did not sell tops I went with a different seller. So if I could do it again I would just have bought a set from ebay from a seller that sold both so they matched. There are a few sellers that sell a combo of bottoms and tops that are about the same price as I ended up paying.

This was my top which I did not show in the video as I received it just recently. In the video it's just the original. I will post a video of installing the new top probably this weekend as I hope to install it then. You will be able to see the color difference. Wish i could post a pic. But you can see it in the ebay pics also. I was just hoping it was a difference of camera or lighting.

Thanks for the sub and nice comments! I super appreciate it! Good idea waiting on a whole set. I do have a little regret, but can't help myself and will install it anyways and see how it looks. Worst case I just buy a new bottom from the same seller as the top and count it as a 30$ learning lesson in upholstery.

Long story, but the bottom cover in the video on the passenger seat worked out great. So i bought another one for the drivers seat, but then realized they did not make a top at that seller. So I bought a new matching bottom and top from a different seller for the drivers side and put them on and I don't think they look good. They were just made too big. They hang loose on the seat (especially the back) It kinda looks like my wife wearing one of my shirts that's too big for her🤣. So I cant really recommend the second place that I bought the bottom and top pair from. If you want pictures, I can send you a couple. I should probably post a video anyways of installing the top since I filmed it, just was not happy with the outcome. It does look better than being torn (maybe), but just hangs too loose. Almost like I should have installed this seat cover on top of the old one and it would have fit better. I think they just measured it wrong and oversized it. anyways, will try to post a video in the next week so you can see it, but if you want a couple pictures sooner just email me at myrandomtechblog@gmail.com

I looked into these, they don't come with the upper or the rear covers. Stupid.....

I could not find a back from the same place I bought the bottom, and in hindsight, I would recommend buying the top and bottom together from the same place so the color would hopefully match perfectly. I ordered a new back from a different place and the colors did not match perfectly. So I also ended up ordering a new bottom on that seat. While the colors match on the new bottom/top combo, they fit a bit loose. Here is a video if you want to see it ruclips.net/video/uGwc1JIUUEQ/видео.html . You can just go to the end and see the color difference of them installed side by side and how loose the top looks. I really liked the cheap 35 dollar bottom and how it fit and wish I could find a back by that same manufacturer.
