- This Tech Tip Video from CMMXYZ looks at "old school" Auto Features in PC-DMIS.
Welcome to Tech Tips from cmmxyz.com. Today, we will discuss the old-school selection method of using auto features. Current versions of PC-DMIS are designed with a single click in mind. If you want to measure an auto feature, move the mouse close to the edge of the feature you wish to measure and perform a single click. The majority of the time, this is enough for PC-DMIS to define the feature. But, there are circumstances where a single click is not enough. Take this example.
I'm trying to click near this diameter, but PC-DMIS is not creating a circle on this feature. In older versions of PC-DMIS, versions 3.7 and older, it was required to click a few times around an auto feature for PC-DMIS to identify it. I refer to this as the old-school selection method. Wouldn't that work great in a situation like this? Well, good news. PC-DMIS can still select auto features using this method. The trick is knowing what is required to activate it. First, place your mouse near the edge of the feature. Take a single left-click of the mouse button.
Now, before moving the mouse anywhere, wait at least two seconds and single-click the exact same spot. You need to be precise. If the mouse pointer moves more than two screen pixels, this will not work. Notice the cross here on the feature edge. This is now registered as the first click of the old-school method. Move to another spot of the feature for another click. And in the case of auto circle, one final click should register the feature. And now, we have just created our auto-feature using the old-school method. It's pretty simple once you understand the method involved. My name is Stuart Burke for cmmxyz.com. Thank you for watching.
