Primitive Bushcraft Snowshoe Build | Hike In Lake Fishing
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 9 фев 2025
- Snow keeps dumping in the Rockies, so Greg builds some much-needed snowshoes, allowing him to hike into one of his favorite fishing spots, deep in the bush.
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

This guy could literally walk into any woods in the world and disappear for a few years and walk out healthier then when he started. Not many people in this world could do a quarter of what he does. Keep the content coming Greg my family loves watching you.
thanks for your support
Thanks for the talk about us being the best subscribers Greg it was nice and I just want you to know my grandfather passed away two years ago and he was very much like you he was big into wilderness and fishing I allways remember in the start of spring he’d be out collecting wild onion garlic etc he loved the wilderness the same as you and I want to thank you for doing what you do because it brings back the memories I had with him so right on man your a great guy keep doing what your doing and don’t ever stop because there’s not many like you out there
Brother, we love and appreciate you. One of a kind, genuine human.
Truth!!!
A teacher of usefulness. Imagine that. Thank you. God bless you.
I wish I had 10% of his knowledge of the outdoors and his survival skills. And to whoever reads this I hope you're having a great day.
Thank you . Hope you are having a good day as well
Canada is awesome. I've been fortunate enough to have spent equal time on the Pacific ocean as well inland southern BC, and its the kind of place that inspires you to gain knowledge. Wherever you are, go get inspired !
Then get the knolage life is to short do not “do it” so “just do it”
Pro trick: you can watch series at kaldrostream. I've been using them for watching lots of of movies during the lockdown.
@Jorge Trenton Yea, have been using KaldroStream for years myself =)
I went to BC Canada five times ,,I'm from NZ ,,some BC dudes are so Kool this guy is one ,,,,
Sasquatch now telling his family he's found some Ovens prints in the snow.
👍🤣🤣
i wonder if he's ever had an experience with sasquatch?
@@roachguthrie1627 me too! Would love to hear Greg telling some tales, he must have a bunch of stories.
@@joeoutdoors2299 I would bet the farm he has a sasquatch story
@@joeoutdoors2299 You should sub to how to hunt if your not already. He tells good storys
Aesthetics don't matter to Greg, it's all about functionality. It's a refreshing thing in our modern image obsessed world
I laughed so hard watching Greg empty a bottle of water. Made my day
I have friend who flushed toilet with "Sprite" during water outtage, she said she wouldnt use clean bottled water to do that :D
I can't go one single day without watching your videos greg, please keep making them for as long as you can, much safety and love brother
The difference is your beard grew in between frames. Must be all that good spring water! 😉😂
nice one :D
I think you got it.
Oooh and here i thought he was going grey.
Gandalf turned lighter the wiser he made others aswell ^^
I have a friend that can clean shave at 6 and by 5pm he almost has a mnt beard grown back out
He ''keeps it simple'' as usual... xD
Oh man. I got headphones in and the sound of the auger on that ice gave me chills🤣
I’ve never been to Canada but I love seeing the beautiful scenery you have up there!
God Bless you Gregg and everything you do honestly you are a national Treasure of your craft !!! Keep these peaceful videos coming ! Your drops are the best on RUclips bye far 🙏🙏🙏🙏✝️✝️✝️✝️
I am so glad I found this dude's channel because I have an interest in learning this knowledge but it seems like most other bushcraft channels are just weird silent viedeos with no talking. I guess some people find that appealing but it's boring to me. And this guy is fun to listen to.
Make sure to avoid the "asmr" tag. And check out fowlersmakeryandmischief too
True, I came across this channel last night, and you're right; not many channels like this talk to the camera
I feel like you're teaching me like I'm right there. Like a dear genuine friend or an uncle would. Love the movie clips. Your low calm voice, too.
Thank you
I'm glad too
Thanks again! You are just like that one character in a book that makes a book a pageturner. 🙏🏼
Isn’t it crazy that life has brought you to this place of inspiring and helping people just being genuine and sharing your life with us it really is special Greg your a cool ass dude.
Ya know, a sense of smell goes a ways; BUT a sense of humor goes just as far! Great attitude!
I was just thinking , Greg’s that manly his stubble grows five thousand times faster than the average guy.
For sure he's got that grizzley Adam's stubble
You are like the grandpa I never get to have :) Thank you!
Heck ya, best way to end A week is watching your videos!
couldn't agree more !
Agreed
That bear just keep growing in 20 minutes!!!
Keep the great life you are living Greg! Total inspiration man!
You and I come from such different walks of life yet the same at the core. As an African I applaud your resource fullness when you only have your surroundings. You are truly an inspiration to keep fighting to live in the face of adversity. Keep on keeping on Sir!💚💛❤
Greg, knowing how to build Snow shoes could save lives for sure. Thanks for great vidios!!!👍😎
"The Man" "The Myth" "The Legend" To me, he may well have invented fire.
This man is genuinely awesome. ☺️ Greg, you are awesome!!!!! 😃 My parents love you and I love your show!!!
We have a spring on our primitive campsite, and we have a drilled well at home. City water tastes like bug spray.
Hey I’m back buddy. Be safe as always. Thanks for the videos. Stay well.
Highly impressed with your skill set and surviving techniques
He is one if the better instructors. Very knowledgeable.
Anyone teaching the old ways has my vote every time, I appreciate all your efforts sir !!
Oh yeah forgot to guess on what's different about you..... uh? the beard is gone----------for the most part?
Hell no, just was about to hit the silk.
No way, have to stay up and watch, Greg is just to cool to wait til tomorrow.
Greets from Munich Germany!
Hahahaha same its 6:47 a.m. Saturday and i was going to hit the sheets and then i saw the new video.
@@zottisurvival2404 Howdy Brother. You did the right thing. :-)
Another German guy - Guten Abend =)
Schwachbirne in München.. geh kackn.. das kannste am besten
Good work, Greg. We love you.
He has inspired me to do new things every day
Keep up the good work
There's noone else I would trust more than Greg when it comes to survival and bushcraft. He was doing it BEFORE IT WAS COOL!
Fowler. Greg doesn't need these cuts to different videos. It's not his personality, it's more your personality (which is good!). They just don't seem to fit in Greg's videos and honestly he doesn't need them! He's funny enough on his own!!
I love watching all your videos! Thanks for showing all types of interesting things! You're an awesome person!
I have to say thank you for talking about water in the beginning. Have a great day!
I started my first fire with a ferro rod about a month ago. I remembered what I saw in your videos and put it to use. The feeling of making that fire was amazing and it makes me want to do more bushcraft and try camping. Your content is very entertaining and educational. Keep up the good work!
If you haven't ever camped I highly recommend it! If you need any help there's lots to learn from ovens. As long as your having an adventure your doing it right.
Was it about as easy as using a lighter? If you know how to lay a fire. A ferro rod is no more difficult than using a bic. Possibly even easier at times
@@jerrywilliams9074 Yes sir! It only took me about two strikes and I got my tinder going and then built up from there!
You thanking us, the subscribers... That is exactly why I have to say thank you, again... 😜😜😜
He’s a good man
In a different time........ my uncle and grandfather would have appreciated your show
I watch because you are interesting and know what you are doing, lots of tips, love your show, always looking forward to the next one
You have the ability to grow a beard in the matter of minutes
Greg is the only LEGENDARY FIGURE in my life of knowledgeable people I’ve encountered! Go Greg loves and likes from Bangor Maine USA 🇺🇸 🇨🇦
Just stumbled on this channel, as an avid hiker trying to learn survival skills this is life changing info here. Cheers from Alberta !
Ferda ‘Berda
I'm from Alberta too! Welcome to his channel! haha he has taught me so much, your going to love him, he's also very humourous
Hi im from Ireland and i love your videos
Do a whole video about how to drink water safely in the bush!
If you don't even know one way.. Then your far to gone.. I heard you can drink the water from your car battery..😂
@@ALLGODSDIE so apparently you come to this channel to confirm things you already know. Some people are here to learn.
Thank you Greg for some real wholesome viewing beats Netflix any day👍🏼✊🏼🙏🏼💙🙋♂️
Did the beard grew between frames???
Hell yea!!!! I love ur channel!!!!!! Ur such an inspiration to 17 year old kids stuck in the suburbs. I have no friends that want to do this stuff and everybody think I’m crazy cause I went out with a tarp and a sleeping bag and it wasn’t even below 0 haha.
Do your thing man. Don't let those carbon copies try and tell you how to be.
@kris kringle - go you for wanting to be a guy and do guy stuff!!!! It's sad to think that it's "abnormal" for young guys these days to have "the call of the wild", so to speak. Go outside! Grunt, spit, scratch and breath fresh air! I sense adventures in your future!!! Have fun exploring the real world instead of the virtual world(s) of gaming (you won't regret it)!!!! You'll end up meeting up with others who like it, too, and making new friends the more you get out there. Start by hiking in your local city, county or state parks. Go have fun!!! :D
Keep doing what you like! I bet your friends won't think you're crazy for long!✌If they do, find smarter friends. You are golden😊👍
Stick to your hobbies and the rest will seek your knowledge when they grow up
You are simple and amazing guy.God bless you!
I'm from newfoundland and I'm from around the bay and ill only get water from the spring! Making a tea with spring water is way better tasting then from the dirty old tap! You're 100% correct Greg!
I'm from newfoundland too haha!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and spirit. I really appreciate how genuine and kind you are, and how much you respect the animals and Mother Earth.
I love this guy so much I legit spend like 2 hours watching nonstop lol
Haircut looks comfortable! Thank you for these videos!
I keep forgetting how lucky I am for the water that comes out of the tap where I live in the Netherlands.
Are you Freek Vonk? Grapje. Groetjes uit Zeeuws Vlaanderen
The netherlands is a diffrent country, one of the best i believe
Yea but if Neighbors or even maybe you spill anything on the ground any kind of chemicals and motor oils any kind 0r pesticides even fertilizers people put in their yards all that drains down into the water table which pollutes it..so never just trust any water that comes out of the ground.. Unless it's coming from a mountain.. But I know what your saying tho..
@@ALLGODSDIE makes the water sweeter.
Man, you are thanking us?? We should be thanking you!!! Thank you for imparting your Bush craft knowledge on us!! Totally agree with you on the quality of water... One of the reasons moved away from the city is so we could have well water again. Can't beat spring water straight from the rocks. Keep em' coming!!
Practical beats Pretty when it comes down to it. Great info, well done. 👍
Thank You.
We appreciate you Greg!
thanks very much
I love your videos! They’re so positive and they make me want to get out of this hectic city and just live in sweet nature! Please don’t stop making your videos :)

Big word's you are using.. Good for you..
@@ALLGODSDIE My mom bought me a thesaurus.
God bless Mr. Ovens, stay safe and warm out there. Looking forward to the next video...
You managed about 20 days of beard growth in about 20 minutes. However you remained consistently charismatic charming, and without ego or guile. A man comfortable in his environment and himself, still with a hint of vulnerability.
Loved the snowshoes. Regards
I work at a water treatment plant in West Texas and I would just like to point out, Not to be argumentative, but never the less, it is very important to put
the correct amount of chlorine in the water system for disinfection purposes. The lake water we use in my town has to be filtered properly also. We add
the correct dosage of ammonia, sodium chlorite and chlorine. Without this process, the drinking water would actually be poisonous! Cryptosporidium
is a disease that is found in some water sources and can be fatal if consumed. The water plant processes are vital for clean potable water. This is just
my input for what its worth. I think your channel is great Greg, good job, except for the comment about chlorine.
Love what you said about the water we ain’t drinking poison water no fluoride for me.
You're a moron.
You’re amazing Greg! Such an inspiration to everyone that loves the outdoors.
"Definitely need my snow shoes"
Me: Nice
You r truly a wander and a wonder man...for all of us, stuck between walls because of the Covid...you r an excuse for a pleasant dream-tour...thanks for that...

ya me too!
They are still interesting when they dont work.
@@danhunik7949 yep
Thanks!
Great video. Lost the beard and put it back on.. always wear the gloves saves on arthritis
Hi Greg ive commented many times, what i like about you and other Canadians like Joe Robinet and the Baird brothers is that you are natural, down to earth, no airs n graces, the sort of fella you want to sit down and have a pint with, much the same as us here in the UK, you have some fab projects to help people do what you do and always make something out of nothing, many youtubers Zach being an exception are all about how big their boat is and what the weather is going to be like in the Bahamas, ive unsubscribed from many of them, they dont need the money or deserve it like you do. keep up the great work, your videos are fab, fun and entertain us for hours. best wishes from West Cumbria, England
Cheers bud, have a good one eh
Back in the 1980's I made a pair snowshoes like this. Mine were the long ones, similar to trail breakers.....anyway, they worked pretty well, but then I found a hollow spot under the snow and broke one. Not good! It was fun until then though.
i am very glad to see someone enjoying the Canadian rocky mountains as much as i did when i was younger, i was forces to move into the city when i was 12 and have not visited since, glad i can still feel like i am back home with these videos
Your beard growth from the beginning to the end of the video is impeccable Greg, keep up that rocky mountain testosterone!
