Rimbaud was born into a family of a never-present father and a very strict mother. His mom forced him to know Latin verses by heart and would make him prioritize his education. Rimbaud was an exceptional student, and by the age of 16, he had already won 15 academic prizes.
When the Franco-Prussian war broke out, Rimbaud decided to go to Paris, but was arrested for not having a ticket. Then, he started hanging out with other poets in France. There, Rimbaud met Paul Verlaine, a married man who was 10 years his senior.
Rimbaud and Verlaine started having an affair and went off to London to live together. Their life as a couple lasted for about a year, and was consisting of drugs, alcohol, violence and writing. One night, Verlaine who was violent when drunk, took out his gun and shot Rimbaud, which ended Rimbaud’s interest in both Verlaine and writing.
After that, Rimbaud moved on, enlisted in the Dutch army and deserted it while in Java, Indonesia. Soon he started visiting many different countries and finally settling in Ethiopia.
Arthur Rimbaud died aged 37, due to bone cancer.

We've just reached 1000 subs! In 200 years, when we overtake PewDiePie, you'll be able to say "I'm so cool I was in the first thousand!" Thank you all so much!
If I remember correctly I was the 148th subscriber, I doesn't mean anything I just wanted to brag about it.
Whoa whoa take it easy :D
Hey there good friend. I was just commentating on how good of a job you were doing when I remembered a very interesting man you could report on. This mysterious stranger I speak of can only be described as the richest man to ever live, and his name is Mansa Musa. I highly suggest that you do a video on him.
So he was a hippie psychedelic rock musician 100 years before the 60s? Impressive.
Jim Morrison was Rimbaud reincarnated
Try hunter thompson, just with modern medicine
i think i finally found the worthwhile side of the internet
Hahaha, that Muppets reference. The drawings just keep getting better
Hunter s Thompson too lol
Boredom is no longer my love. The rages, the debaucheries, the madness I have known in all their dash and disaster -the burden is cast aside. Let us appreciate the height of my innocence without vertigo.- Arthur Rimbaud from his A Season in Hell (1873)
this was hilarious 😆 i loved every single minute of it 👍
This is a great video, I enjoyed the humor and the drawings especially Rimbaud and Verlaine in fear and loathing in Las Vegas hahaha! I didn't know any of this about his life, fascinating! THANKYOU!
Total kudos on the subtle Albert Hoffman sunshine reference. Also I feel like this vid was spot on in regards to the biographical details. You got yourself a subscriber ^_^
When you drew Verlaine I pissed myself laughing man, he was so ugly and I think you depicted that well.
Hope you enjoyed it! The new video will be up next Thursday! :)
Another great video, thank you!
Tooky History LIES

King Baldwin IV
He was a king of Jerusalem and suffered from leprosy so he wore a mask. Even when he was blind and dumb he was still feared when his men brought him out to the battlefield on a strecher
Hi, we already have Baldwin planned out in the coming videos, so you can be all like "What's up, they did this because of me!" :D Thanks for the suggestion!
Here via Jim Morrison

I would realy like do see Josip Broz Tito next. Bay the way GREAT JOB YOU ARE DOING.
Drug Tito is a tough one to make, he was a complex character whose influence still resonates in the ex-Yu republics. I guess you'd know! ;) The video would be a bit longer than usual, but we certainly have him on mind. Thanks for suggesting! :)

If you need help i can send you text i made for a school presentation about him. I'd be glad to help.

@ Tooky History can you please do a video on Francisco Franco? He was "El Caudillo" (dictator) of Spain from 1939-1975. And yes Francisco Franco is still dead (like if you get the reference).
great video
Could you make a video about a Hungarian, like György Thury, a man who fought the Turks in the second part of the 16. century, or István Dobó, the captain of Eger
Would like to see a video about Hans-Ulrich Rudel. I know you did one about a german pilot already but I think his story could be very interesting :)
If his father had been there to emotionally support his children and the mother allowed her concrete wall personality to crack a bit then Rimbaud would have been a very normal person. I'm sorry but Rimbaud was very a fucked up person by the time he started writing at the age of 16. Verlaine was an equally messed up person who didn't help matters for Rimbaud. I have more sympathy for Rimbaud than I do for Verlaine as the latter had had a comfortable upbringing that you think would've made him appreciative that he wasn't neglected. When you dabble into hedonism and debauchery then you might be a person trying to make sense as to what to when you were young. To those who aspire to be like Verlaine, you're not going to reach an old age.
Why would anyone aspire to be an alcoholic, abusive husband, deadbeat father who well past the age of 30 was still relying on his mom sending him money to live? Verlaine was a loser and straight up bad person lol I don't get the fascination with him
Screw this, i'm out
This channel, lol. We need more videos
Please, make something about Poland :D! Maybe Hussars?
Can you do a video on tsar Dušan? I would appreciate it if you could :)

So we're between possessed and channeling and a delusional veteran. People used me the symbol for political reasons
Rimbaud is a ledge...hahahaha see hunter s thompson , of fear n loathing notoriety lol
Indulged in physical pain because he could not think of anything to write and had no life. The demon who possessed him try to get him to kill himself
lets not forget his exportation of slaves
Arthur Rimbaud is my great great great grandfather
He didn't have any children...
Lol
😂😂😂🤣🤣
Your great grandfather was hot
Is your second great great great grandfather Paul Verlaine?
gud
stop yelling bro
screw this I'm out.
That was dumb. Why?
I wish the dislike button was back so I could dislike this video which did not do justice to the poetic genius of Rimbaud.
what a caricature, what conformism !
If you really want to know the truth, dont waste your precious time here. This site gets a major dislike.
screw this, I'm out
He was gay?
As any genius.
@@Neuroneos Arthur's father had no existence in his life whatsoever from the point from he was born. The poet's behaviour in his infamous period had a lot to do with this.
@@the19thcentury81 Who cares? Besides I know about Rimbaud's life, probably better than you.
@@Neuroneos At least I do have loving parents and a great brother. The thing that I find so sad about Rimbaud is that he had two parents who weren't there for him and his siblings in their formative childhood years. His poems are of high quality but the trauma he carried into his adult years led to the self-destructive behavior that occurred in Paris. I recommend you contrast Rimbaud's life with Robert Louis Stevenson and WB Yeats (born around that same time in the 19th century) and see the difference.
