I watched the Disneyland one when I was a kid in the early 2000s. After rewatching it, I am simultaneously filled with joy and brought to deep sadness as I know I can’t go back to those simpler times.
Same
"Grim Grinning Ghosts" used to freak me out, too. I think it was mainly the creepy trees.
"Don't patronize the man, Goofy!" made me laugh.
Raggedy Ann, Andy, and the clown freak me out, too.
Surprised you didn't point this out, the elephants dancing with Goofy are both Colonel Hathi from "The Jungle Book". They actually have a costume for him.
For me, it was the admittedly cheesy jumpscares with a woman shrieking as Ghost Donald and Maleficent popped up.
Back in the 80's, my folks went on the 'It's a Small World' ride and ended up getting stuck in the middle of said ride. They were listening to the song in Mandarin to the point that my dad was tempted to get out of the boat to strangle the animatronics. To this day, my dad HATES 'it's a small world' song. And I don't blame him, either...
They need to make more of these park sing along videos, especially a new Christmas video with the Frozen characters, or a new Beach video with Lilo, Stitch, and Moana.
Not to mention the Disney Channel Original Movies (DCOMS)
@@Dimensioneer88 Yeah!
@@rogergreenberg1205 That too!
🎶 Come right in, sing along to your favorite Disney songs!! 🎶
My god. I miss my childhood so much.
Disneyland Fun was the one I owned. Loved loved loved the grim grinning ghosts song!
Agree
Disneyland Fun made me think that the characters visited you every night and when I finally went myself I was super disappointed lol
Right? They set a high bar for us!
I had the disneyland fun VHS tape and I absolutely ADORED it. I would watch it over and over again and was devastated when my parents sold it in a yard sale. Currently, I have a pirated version on a cd in my office space.
I actually DO NOT have good memories of Disneyland Fun because the “Grim Grinning Ghosts” portion TERRIFIED me as a child. I still can’t watch it to this day. Also, the “when you wish upon a Star” ending always made me cry, but not happy tears. I’m not quite sure why, maybe because it was the end, or maybe it was the somber-sounding key and tempo, but it always made me upset.
In my opinion, the best part of that tape was the “zip a dee doo dah” section. It has nice B-roll footage of some of the best rides(Big Thunder Mountain, Star Tours, Matterhorn), it shows off some now-extinct attractions(the skyway and the peoplemover, as well as the original submarine voyage), and lest we forget the splash mountain rap?
My favorite live action sing along songs tape was mickey’s beach party! It was just so much fun!
(Also, it’s nice to come across another raggedy Ann and Andy fan!)
Beach Party will definitely be in the next installment. And "Raggedy Ann and Andy: A Musical Adventure" is probably my favorite animated film to come out of the 1970's.
Some songs make me sad too
Emily Fuller
To me, I bawled over “Something’s Waiting For You” in the release “Under the Sea”.
I can definitely understand that, it’s kind of a somber song(but it does have hope!)
The Haunted Mansion and Snow White were terrifying to me, but now I'm fascinated by these clips. It's nice to get that spooky zing all these years later.
I heard the Imagination music (one little spark) playing there for a second and my heart got happy. 💜🐲
I must've been a weird kid, but Grim Grinning Ghosts used to be my favorite segment on this tape. I especially loved the Haunted Mansion footage.
My daughter still has the Disneyland Fun VHS. It got played sooooo many times when she was growing up!
Oh man, I have memories of a good majority of these tapes growing up (and only discovered any that I didn't grow up with). My favorites would have to be a fourway tie between Disneyland Fun, Beach Party, Twelve Days of Christmas, and Flik's Musical Adventure.
Same. Hoping it will be on Disney+ in the near future.
I always liked the ones hosted by Ludwig, but then again I always thought he was underappreciated considering how much he was used, so I have a bias. Plus, I also felt cheated that they used an actual song from The Little Mermaid animated series, but couldn't be bothered to put the Ducktales or Darkwing Duck theme song on any of these videos.
The Haunted Mansion one always scared me too! I'd watch through my hands because I still wanted to watch 😂
Braving that song was a rite of passage for 90's kids.
Same
Disneyland Fun and Mickey’s Beach Party were my JAM!
Mine too
I didn't have many of these ones you listed as a kid besides the Very Merry Christmas one. My childhood sing along songs tape featuring the parks was the Beach Party at Walt Disney World! It was a birthday present one year and my sister and I love it so much.
The Grim Grinning Ghosts part still creeps me out as an adult. Probably doesn't help that I'm now able to understand the lyrics...

And this wasn't even in the ride. They added this reference to casual murder specifically for this VHS intended for young children!
Yes, it is. It's near the exit, after the _Grim Grinning Ghosts_ graveyard scene (sung by the same people who were the Singing Busts in a "Mellow Men" style), before Little Leota beckons you to return, Death Certificate in-hand.
I remember Disneyland Fun! I used to had it on VHS!
I still have it on VHS
I grew up with this one too
This vhs is what got me interested in Disneyland
If it weren’t this video I wouldn’t be interested in the Disney parks nowadays
@@skunkman9815 ikr
I had the first Disneyland one at my Dad’s parents house when I was little! Just thinking about it takes me back. I want to be 5 again!
I'm really excited for Happy Haunting and Flik's Musical Adventure, mainly because my favorite parts of those videos are, as I like to call them, the early AMVs. It's really fun to see covers of classic songs put to clips from various Disney films and shorts! My favorites being Casting My Spell in Happy Haunting and It's a Bugs World in Flik's Musical Adventure
I never owned any Disney Sing-Along Songs VHS tapes, but I remember renting them sometimes. I remember ones with the owl, though later on I learned about ones hosted by Jiminy Cricket and Ludwig Von Drake. Don't recall any live action stuff, though, probably because, as a kid, I was more interested in animated stuff than live action stuff.
I watched almost all of these as a kid. I remember everything from the owl segments to the live action segments and of course the songs! I have the Disneyland fun one as well as tons of others and I believe it was the first one I watched. Thanks for bringing back the memories!
OH MY GOD- I used to watch these with my dad all the time. The ending part where Mickey waves goodbye to everyone made me cry and wish I was there with him- But my favorite part was the Haunted Mansion scene. As a small little girl I'd go pretty much feral and sing the songs.
2:26 Ever since watching this vid, I've found myself quoting your bit about how "everyone knows Donald Duck is number one when it comes to park upkeep"!
You've given me the perfect random-ass thing to say to people when discussing the inner-workings of Disney Theme Parks. Thanks Colin!
I am so excited to watch this series, I only had the first VHS as a kid and watched it just as much as the other few I had, I love learning about the other ones!!! Thank you!
They should’ve done an alternate Walt Disney World version of Disneyland Fun but at the Walt Disney World Resort for Walt Disney World’s 20th anniversary and featured the three theme parks opened at the time as well as an alternate Tokyo Disneyland version at Tokyo Disneyland for Tokyo Disneyland’s 10th anniversary in the same year as the Disneyland Paris version!
I would love that
@@rogergreenberg1205 Me too.
I have never gone to Disneyland, Disney World and Disneyland Paris yes, but I did watch the Disneyland Singalong VHS non stop as a kid, didn't even understand English that much back then, but still this was one of my most watched movies on VHS.
I remember begging my mom to buy the sing along song for the Lion King because I was a huge fan of the movie but my mom wouldn't go for it. I do know at some point we got one-- it might have been the under the sea one but the only thing I remember about it was the Crocodile segment from Peter Pan. Until today I don't think I even knew they had live action ones. Thanks for the video.
Part of Christmas for me is watching a video of the It's a Small World Christmas overlay. It makes me feel very festive. Also, Peter Pan's Flight is amazing and I love the teacups. I think Fantasyland can be underrated. And also, the Grim Grinning Ghosts segment is partly why I couldn't go on the HM for ten years because I was so scared.
I was lucky enough to see the last country bears show in 2001, so many nostalgic memories of the park!
I remember watching these in music class
How do you think Disneyland Fun would be if it were remade today (highlighting new attractions that's been made since then, using different characters, changing some of the songs)?
ZNKChannel
Not sure what song they’d use for GE, and maybe they’d include DCA, too?
Would probably chuck in Let it Go.
ZNKChannel that would be cool and it would be more cool if they put all of the Disney Sing Along Songs on Disney+
I remember watching Disneyland Fun during my childhood. Good times, good times.
Sure was
Oh where do I start? I Looooooved Disneyland Fun when I was a little kid. Watched it so many friggin times, I practically remembered the order all the songs played in for many years. I had (still have actually) the original release in the purple box.
Last time I watched it, when I was 15 years old, my parents and I were going on a trip to Disney World and I was using the tape as a tool to help psyche me up for the upcoming trip.
In later years, when I’d think back to this tape, I would always ask myself “Gee, I wonder whatever happened to the group of kids that were in this program? It would be interesting to see what they’re up to now!”
It’s a little strange seeing the Lucasfilm copyright © notice
On the Star Tours footage, because back then, Disney didn’t own Star Wars yet.
Same here
Instant-fucking-like!!!!! Under the Sea WAS the best! Good show, sir!
This is just nostalgia for me
Walt Disney would be proud way to go appreciate your style and time at disneyworld have fun best wishes to everyone. Joe
There was recently a ytp collab of this made. It does poke a lot of fun at it but i still would recommend it. It’s very funny
I definitely remember renting this tape as a kid from the local video store. Very fun and entertaining! Yes I agree that Disney should let Roger Rabbit back into the spotlight. He is truly lovable character! I rented Disneyland fun at least 15 times as a kid! I love The haunted mansion section!
These all seem so familiar like I know I have seen them before but I can't tell you where or specifically remember when.
Lol! The live action Christmas stuff reminds me of Winter Summerland in Orlando
@@shiveringmousepodcast7153 Same!
"Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" was my favorite on this tape, if only because of the "modern" Van Halen-like version of it they did (and for all I know, that could have been Eddie himself on the guitar, but I wouldn't wager on it). "Grim Grinning Ghosts" is also a favorite of mine, due to how genuinely scary it is - certainly scarier than the 1960s original version, which is intended to be comical.
I watched the live action Singalong long ago when I was in the hospital, the nurse put it in the VCR and watched it with me.
@@darkstarmoonshadow that’s something
Really great channel. A lot of your thoughts on these are the same thoughts I had as a kid.
"Grim Grinning Ghosts" also scared me as a kid, and not just because of the ghosts but because of the question the kid poses at the beginning: "I wonder what weird things happen here at night?" I'd imagine that, whatever WAS going to happen, it'd happen after the park had closed, leaving you the kid viewer amongst the horror unable to escape because any grownups who could've helped had gone home hours ago not knowing you were trapped there.
14:20 Was that supposed to be a reference to "The Art of Skiing"? If so, it's subtle and I like it.
The only live action vid I can remember from when I was a kid was the one you covered with the Disney characters from that US Disney Park you covered, and the only songs I can remember are the ones about Main Street USA and Following The Leader. I'm from the UK, I don't know how/why I had a VHS with a US Disney Park. I was surprised to learn from your vid they brought out an alternate version of that vid for Disneyland Paris.
I don't remember Prof Owl (probably never had any of his tapes when I was a kid). I only came across him recently on a vid where someone uploaded Let's Go Fly A Kite ripped from the Singalong vid, and I guess I assumed he was created for the Singalong vids (sidenote: curiously, the clip the guy uploaded replaced any shots of Julie Andrews with Admiral Boom and his house. I guess they'd had to have paid Andrews some expensive royalties).
I also didn't remember Prof von Drake narrating the videos. But weirdly enough, I once had a dream where I was watching a Disney Singalong vid and Von Drake appeared in the middle of the song to give a small commentary (if you're curious, I was dreaming I was watching the Unbirthday Song from Alice in Wonderland, and von Drake appeared on screen and said "It's Alice in Wonderland".)
I always thought Goofy’s song about wanting an elephant for Christmas was made by Disney because they couldn’t get the rights to I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas. Turns out that the elephant song was a ripoff, but it was made back in the ‘60s, around a decade after the hippopotamus song.
Disneyland fun VHS hold a special place in my heart for not only Disneyland but all of the Disney parks
Why if it wasn’t for this VHS then I wouldn’t be interested in the Disney parks nowadays
I had a good number of these tapes growing up, but the "Mickey's Fun Songs" trilogy was always the ones I enjoyed the most.
I used to watch some of theses when i was a kid.
Wait a minute, New Dream Disney Christmas Carol Collection; A Muppet Christmas Carol and A Magic Kingdom Yuletide Special in VHS, Mickey's Magical Christmas; Snowed in at the House of Mouse and A Christmas Carol in DVD-Videos, and Winnie the Pooh; Springtime with Roo in Blu-Ray, and Disney Christmas Carol Books.
Professor owl is my favorite Disney character how come that character hasn’t appeared since melody and toot plunk whistle and boom and Disney sing along songs and Disneys house of mouse
oh my god i definitely had disneyland fun and 12 days of christmas on vhs as a kid and i wasn't even born in the early 90s, i love seeing this cheesy early 90s disney parks footage a lot
I don't think there is a person alive who didn't spend the entirety of "Making Memories" experiencing white knuckle existential d r e a d waiting for Grim Grinning Ghosts.
Dude i loved the sing alongs! Also i like your channel, gonna binge the ones that interest me tonight since i have to go to my parents wedding tommorow
Also the only part of the sing alongs that I was scared of was the country bears. So don’t feel like your alone.
"Hewey is having a crisis of faith" given that this is in reference to Santa, I find this absolutely hilarious!
Well, Saint Nicholas was a real person.
Disney's Sing-Along Songs - Disneyland Fun and Very Merry Christmas Songs have in common: They have song book openings and closings. What came first?
0:21 That's the closest Disney got to releasing Song of the South on home media.
4:30 I still see Star Tours as Disney's early acquisition of LucasFilm/Star Wars.
@@megamanfan3 Or part of some kind of partnership…
I believed Mickey and the gang cleaned the park as well. Pan should’ve lead the Follow The Leader sequence instead of Donald
15:45 A musical about a doll?! You may as well make a musical about the King of Siam or the common cat!
I love Disneyland Fun. But My Mom made the hilarious point that Disney is soo good at marketing they got her to buy a 10 dollar ADVERTISMENT for the world's most expensive theme park.
My favorite Disney Sing-Along video was Pongo & Perdita the one you talked about in part 3 of the video.
Make’n memories was ruined for me too!😖that haunted mansion scene scared the crap out of me as a kid!
The Disneyland one was my favorite as a kid❤️
That music box sounds like Freddy prepping for Xmas too
I grew up on VHS tapes as a kid but I never heard of these until today
Re: "Pluto, you're ripped!" clip;
One time, I made this mini-comic story where Mickey Mouse and Pluto use an experimental formula that grows an instant Power Pellet bush from the Pac-Man game. Pluto tries one, and instead of developing a hunger for ghosts, the Power Pellet gives him super strength (like as another Disney gimmick involving a specific berry juice made by a family of anthropomorphic bears living in medieval times) that Pluto digs deep into the earth and excavated an entire dinosaur skeleton. That's when the ghosts come by to steal the Power Pellets before Pac-Man arrives to stop them.
That sounds like an interesting crossover. I’d like to see it sometime.
No, I believed Mickey and the gang cleaned up the park before opening when I was little X3
Well, because they were trying to make it more like the series, but I know that they made a movie called the house of mouse as well, but I’m talking about the movie and that’s why they were trying to make it so it’s kind of like creepy but like cool at the same time that’s that’s also why these songs are totally cool
I’d like to see an alternate Walt Disney World version of Disneyland Fun but at the Walt Disney World Resort with all four theme parks, two water parks, and other locales!
I used to watch the Twelve days of Christmas year round! 😂
15:38-15:40 Someone call Ed and Lorraine Warren, those are the dolls they should have locked up in their museum!
I really love Disneyland Fun! It is indeed like a great commercial for Disneyland. I can never get enough.
I love Disney's The 12 Days of Christmas and Very Merry Christmas songs as well. I can't get enough of those either. Ever!
Why doesn't fantasyland have any kingdom hearts stuff yet in 2019
Because Disney barely wants to acknowledge its existence.
And no, I'm not buying the whole "they need permission from Square Enix" excuse. Need I remind you of the V-Cast game that was made without SE's involvement?
Disney doesn't seem to care much about its video games.
13:04 The cabin actually appears again in a Disney junior Xmas short with the Clubhouse Gang ad it actually stop motion i think or it might be CGI since it's so clean
My Favorite Entry in the Sing-Along Sereies is Disneyland Fun, partially due to Roger Rabbit prominently appearing, And I do have a bit of spot for the Fun Songs episodes.
what do you mean under the sea is the best?? Its certainly Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
My dad hates Fantasyland at WDW now because of the vast number of children in that area
The reason why the Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah shots were a little different is because the Matterhorn and splash Mountain attractions are not at Disneyland Paris although there was plans initially to put splash Mountain at Disneyland Pari but was scarped due to budgetary concerns and really cold weather in Europe
14:41 happy birthday
I had the first Christmas tape as a kid. A few years ago, I found the record that that version of Here Comes Santa Claus and Sleigh Ride came from. That was a treat.
I never seen Disneyland fun but it sounds fun
You should check out the old red skeleton Christmas special where Raggedy Ann is a main part of the plot as she comes to life .
I had the Christmas one as a kid
What everybody including me care about are funny and silly clowns, not scary and creepy ones!
I remember the old Disney Store at my town's mall used to play these video clips on their big screen tv in the middle of the store
I miss the vhs boxes
So, which specific music covers did you use for the video's background music?
It’s OK because it’s supposed to be like references and why some of those songs are cool, but unless you think of like mixing it like with the movie rescue pups or whatever I said and it was another movie I know it was called rescue pups or something like that and then they actually sing the 12 days of dogs so but they say it with dogs so it’s like the 12 days of Christmas but with dogs just so they can get more dogs adopted. They should do that every year. For the record.
But I like the second one because it’s so much cuter and it was like the great puppy rescue part two or something but part two makes you say aw but only because the kids are in cat costumes and then it’s like man I wish I could do that just to help get more dogs adopted and cats as well like during the holidays, but I know why a lot of people don’t want to adopt them mostly because of other urban legends and theories too that also includes theories about the Winnie dog you can’t find them on the Internet mostly because for one it doesn’t show very good picture and number two because only I know what it looks like but they’re mostly mixed with different breeds so it’s like totally cool now when you mix them with like different breeds, then it makes you say aw a lot more and makes you want to adopt them mostly because they’re sweet a lot of the times and very fearless
I absolutely loved all these. And I literally just found my Mickey Mouse 110 film camera I bought at Disney World with film in it as I'm watching this video. Too bad I may not be able to get the film processed.
Is it just me or does the audio change when he starts talking about Tom Sawyer's Island?
14:24 Wait... isn't that the same snowman from Barney the Dinosaur: Waiting for Santa? I swear it looks just like him...
Those are pre pixar era made media
14:40
Frosty the Snowman, anyone?
"Happy birthday!" ~ Frosty's first words (from the 1969 Rankin/Bass special)
The one i had was "It's a small world" I don't know where it went though,so that's sad
It was a dvd though. It was basically the one that was talked about first.
I hope they’ll be on Disney+.
I doubt it, because it’s very outdated
@@rogergreenberg1205 I’d prefer a modern Disney Sing-Along Songs series for Disney+ with lots of newer songs!
