I'm a country girl from Australia, married to a New Yorker, living back in Australia on a country farm . We did spend a couple of years in the beautiful, U.S.A. :)
Thanks for checking out this awesome Western Australian band👍 My daughter works in the music industry in Fremantle and still gets to hang out with The Waifs when they come into her rehearsal studios......a really nice bunch of gals and guys 😎🇭🇲
After Pearl Harbor, Fremantle port was the second biggest submarine port used by the Americans and Dutch during WW2, for some it was the last friendly port they would see. Those young ladies that the song was about, not all was accepted by the families of the sailors that they had married and led a hard life. If I remember rightly, there is a documentary on the subject.
Not only can that guy really play that guitar, but he also probably made it. Josh Cunningham is a master guitar/instrument maker and makes most of his own instruments. I love this band, and you can't go wrong listening to any of their tracks.
Great band. "He can play that stinking guitar." The guitarist's name is Josh Cunningham, he's a luthier and builds all of their wooden acoustic instruments. Try "Highway One".
Love your work Mike! As you missed you chance in the 80s (for very good reasons), give up that dangerous Police caper and come and visit us. We will be happy to welcome you! Thanks to all cops around the world who put their safety on the line to protect the community.
My mother-in-law was a war bride. She travelled to Gaffney, SC alone, arrive at train station with her belongings expecting to met. A local newspaper reporter noticed her & helped her. My wife & I saw The Waiffs perform at a Broome pub in 2007. Brilliant experience. My wife’s brother served in the USN, retired as Master Chief served on USS Independence, USS Samuel Gompers etc

Please checkout Kasey Chambers, she's been singing since she was 10 years old with her father, I think she's getting close to 50 by now , awesome performer
A story my grand mother told us - she was a cleaner during ww2 in Melbourne Victoria Australia and one of the units was 4 American soldiers who due to their scheduling she actually never meet but on their last day they left her a tin of instant coffee as a thank you
Take Me To Town is another great song to check out And Fisherman's Daughter, sung by Donna, sister of Vikki here Vikki is one of the best harmonica players you will ever hear
It's been a two way street especially after WW2. Ships carried brides to America, there's are a lot of history shows on this. My cousin went to Texas to marry his girl in 2019. Ps Great reactions keep them coming.
Living in Darwin we have large American forces stationed here we just had Air manoeuvres called Pitchblack with multiple countries involved its on RUclips if you're interested.
Yeah my mum told me about the American sailors in Sydney WW2 had more money, nylon stockings to give the Aussie girl's . The Australian soldiers were pissed off with the charming American's, and a few scuffles broke out.
