You could compare it to a situation where some heavily armed robbers suddenly break into your workplace and demand money/other goods. Any normal human being in the situation won't try to make up a fight, unless they wish to die on the spot.

If you're trying to insinuate that I don't have parental protection instincts, you are not thinking the situation through yourself. Sure Flik was the only one to have guts to say something, but unless Hopper was as calm and collected as he were, the situation might have unfolded much worse than it did in the end.
