That MIL was not pulling pranks. She was torturing her DIL and it was sanctioned by her son and friends. The viscousness showed the depth of her jealousy for her DIL. The son had the same depravity. A good household to be away from.
The worst part to me is that MIL ignored OP for SEVEN MONTHS, and then, after she caused severe injury to her, let alone the miscarriage, she reached out, just to taunt her.
She should go to jail, just for that.

Pranks are only pranks if the victim genuinely enjoys them and finds them funny. If they're laughing only out of embarrassment, physically hurt or humiliated, they're not pranks, they're bullying, harassment and assault.
As someone who had her tubes tied before she turned 30 because she knew it would not be safe for her or the unborn child if she ever got pregnant, this is unbelievable. I have a long history of psychological issues and also have high functioning autism so getting pregnant and having a child would be dangerous for both of us and I do not want any children of mine to inherit these issues. It is sad for me because I would love to get married and have at least two children but the dating pool is awful and I am 31 now so it’s a little too late.

A good movie scene would be the "prankster" is ambushed and ends up exposed and humiliated; those aren't pranks, they're crimes and deserve to be treated as such. Forgiveness doesn't mean trusting or letting them get away with it.

It is true that the actual number of miscarriages is much higher than generally realized. A lot of miscarriages actually happen before the woman knows she is pregnant. And a lot of common health conditions contribute to the early loss. My daughter had 4 miscarriages that were caused by hypothyroidism. Once she started religiously taking her medication she was able to have a healthy full term pregnancy.
She was attacked by lads and at that time, she was hit by a car. How tough do you think a foetus is?
My grandmother had SIX miscarriages. Fully half of her pregnancies ended in the loss of a child.
My sister doesn't even know how many miscarriages she had, and the only baby to actually come to term died within the first hour.

I know what it is like to lose a baby by getting hit by a car but in my case it was a truck. I was 8 month's pregnant when I lost my son. it was a hit and run.

A couple of years ago, my cousin had a miscarrige of twins, the family was exiced, but when she lost the babies due to stress, it was devesting 😢, Now she and my cousin have two lovely, sweet girls, ages three and two, they are not twins, though.

Those "pranks" were seriously sociopath level behaviour. OP should have saved the text messages and gone to the cops at once with the evidence. Anyone sensible would have left that house after the very first "prank" and not just there taking it. Then it turns out the husband is also into sick pranks. That was long past the point where OP should have left and got divorced. Not stick around for more sick games and abuse.
This is just bad writing. First the husband is fully on board with those twisted pranks, and is a real mama's boy and even threatening. Then, with no explanation and no lead-up, he does a total 180 turn and is suddenly willing to confess his mother's crimes and even testify against her in court. Even fan fiction writers can do a better job of believable plotting and dialogue, and proper story pacing. Seriously, this writer needs to be sent to WRITING SCHOOL.
