    I am having a hard time understanding why the seer stone is being promoted. Can anyone give me a reference in the revelations from the Lord, or a quote from Joseph Smith or Oliver Cowdery about Joseph using a seer stone to translate? All I find is references to the "interpreters" or the "Urim and Thummim" which Moroni gave to Joseph for the purpose of translating from the plates. And if the plates were not used, why did Moroni even give them to Joseph. This whole Book of Mormon could have been done without the plates or the Urim and Thummim if all Joseph needed was a stone and a hat.

      The seer-stones/urim and thummin/interpreters are all the same thing.
      Joseph did need the plates - he originally wrote down the various characters from the plates and used the stones to learn what the different characters meant. The stones were then used as part of his translation process while he was learning the language. Eventually he had learned the language and was able to read the characters without the stones.

      @@kristend344I have never seen an illustration of Joseph using the plates. The impression is given that he doesn't really use the plates. He uses a Seer stone that he looks add in the hat. I too have wondered about the plates and how they were actually used by him. I wish we had a diary of those wonderful days Oliver speaks of translating

    It’s unfortunate that as great as Scripture Central’s content is, they’ve chosen to espouse the seer stone and hat narrative. Not sure why the Church has allowed the development of this narrative at the expense of ridicule from Ex-mos and other critics. Joseph and Oliver always spoke about the Nephite or ancient interpreters in connection with the translation process. Do we really think that Joseph would have used something other than what he was given by the Lord after already disobeying him RE the 116 pp?
    The Lord created this tool, gave it to the Brother of Jared, passed it through many generations and created the plates so that in the end, Joseph could use his own seer stone and leave the plates covered?

    “Men” back then included women depending on the context, so hold back on the assumption it’s not her being involved. Not the best reason to rely on. Don Bradley is far more convincing is showing that she was not involved with the missing pages.

    Listened to the first few minutes and am a bit disturbed and irritated by the men vs women evil comment. In English the word men can have a universal application, and I highly doubt that there are no evil and designing women sadly. I will listen further with scepticism if I continue at all

    • @jenchace3601
      @jenchace3601 День назад

      I think that evil men reference was only to this instance. Of course there are evil women but Dolly seems to have missed out on the criticism at this time period
