I have a ‘74 280E, automatic, petrol injection. It’s a beaut! It makes me smile every time I’m in it. It’s extremely comfortable - more importantly, my wife says it’s the most comfortable car she’s been in 😊 (& she was driven to primary school in a Caddy 😉). The one featured here looks goo now the wing’s been repaired. Next job: the sun roof! Safe driving.
Look at the mirrors and rear lights: this seems to be a MK1 (build from 68 to (end of 72 - early 73); later (until 1976) the facelifted MK2 was build, different rear lights, more modern mirrors.

i drive a 1974 W115 diesel since 1992. your W114 have only the tail lights and the trunk lid from a 1974 model. fender , hood, grill frontdoors some chrome parts , odometer , bumper , steeringwheel are older then august 1973. EDIT : the doors pins are also from a serie 1 model..nobody change that to a serie 2 model..so, i am sure your W114 is older then august 1973
Looking at the body parts, this is definitely a first gen > 1968 to 1973 The 1st gen 230 was 6 cyl, so the correct badge would be 230, not 230.6; the 230.6 engine was a 2nd gen option (73 to 76), as there was an 4 cyl version too (230.4) And if I'm not wrong, a w114 would have wood dash panels, so maybe this is a w115 with an engine swap from the previous owner.
@@InfernalStateMachine the VIN will tell you which model it was original. the VIN also tell which engine , manual or automatic transmission and side of the steering wheel.funfact: my W115 looks like a 280E but its a 200D with an 240D engine :-)
@@chevymarioana These cars have so many mods, it's part of their charm. Fun fact : my family's w115 200 had a 280 badge, and we had to let it go cause it had a fake vin and couldn't pass MOT, i miss that car like hell. Wish you to enjoy your w115 till the end of time
The fixtures, including the front grille, the quarter windows, the side mirrors were not like this. This must be either 1973 or an earlier model. All W114's had 6 cylinder engines and we're of higher specs compared to the W115's. Still, I think even the wooden paneling on the dashboard seem to have been changed. Also the upholstery has been changed. It should be MBTex with basket weave pattern.
Judging from the body parts and the interor, this was/is a 230 W114, most likely built in 1972 or early 1973. The 230 ist the only W114 of these model years that didn't have the wood panels in the dashboard, so this is correct. The taillights came from a newer W114/115 (post-1973) model, also the light switch with the orange light (only in 1975/1976). The front seats are from a newer Mercedes model, most likely W124. And several parts, especially some chrome trim parts, are missing inside and outside.
Great Work!!!

I would have liked to see how the damaged fender was repaired also. Great job of detailing.
Cool old car! I drive a 1979 300SD, the newest car I own.
The elusive 10mm socket or wrench. 😂😂😂😂
Cool car! Great video! Excellent editing!!
The classic BBS
I have an extremely comfortable 1976 Mercedes W114. I am Brazilian
Big w114 owner & enthusiast here, 1976 was the final year that the w114 was manufactured, so the original paperwork could well be correct!

To me it looks like a modernized late 60's car. Nice detailing though!

This not definitely a 74 model, it could be 73 but not 74.
It could be, remember it's a euro spec car.
