I have started using your methods. Works great. I have kept my mother potatoes alive year-round. 👍🏼😃
Awesome. Thank you for following. I am working on trying to improve worm populations in my farm and my beds so I am trying to learn from your channel. Enjoy watching your videos
we buy slips when we have never had posession of a potato😂
So I put okinawan sweet potato in water. A month later nothing. Regular sweet potato produced a lot of slips and still growing them. I tried another Okinawan in soil, no slips yet. What is the problem.
Thanks for watching and sorry you are not having any luck yet. I find the soil method to be the most successful way to do this I reviewed how I do it on my video How to grow Japanese purple sweet potato ( part 1 ).
Even in soil I keep the potatoes pretty moist and in a warm place in the house. They really like heat and humidity to grow well.
Some growers use inhibitors to prevent sprouting in transit or in the store. This can slow the process way down. Try to verify on the label that your original potato is organic to avoid that possibility. Check out that video one more time to make sure you are set up right.
Good luck. You’ll get there 😀
When I put my Purple Sweets in water, it took a long time (Initially placed on a table in a glass jar with water in front of a window). Once I set the potatoes on top of my fire place where they got some good heat, they started sprouting really good and now I have so many slips. Sweet potatoes like the heat so try a heat source for them to sit under while in water. Many people say that heat mats work.
how do you make more slips from slips?
If you get a good slip from your sweet potato you can sub divide that one slip by citron off any of the leaves with a root node. Check out “millenial gardener” who has a good video on this subject ( turn one sweet potato into hundreds of LBS of Sweet potatoes by growing “
