Here’s an idea for you, you could test how the bomb bays work in space. Do they get released with enough velocity to bomb targets, or would they be better suited for mine laying
Been wondering this since they mentioned zero g and my thinking is they are shunted out with a little force so they would just float? I'm working on a build now that will (hypothetically) scatter the bomb bay bombs like a cloud behind the ship
Since the new space map loops infinitely you could do a multiplayer challenge where you use the compass block to make your ships only go in one direction and since the map loops you can speed up and slow down to evade fire. You can still move up and down and left and right just no backwards
I feel like a physical EMP armor could be useful. Some prongs extending to all directions so that they catch all emp shots without letting them get to functional parts.
You could theoretically "deactivate" the rudders with logic blocks. The setting on a logic block go from -1 to +1 and represent % of activation of the connect block so if you set one to 0 and connect it to the rudders, they should be equally at 0 strength when you activate them through the block. Any command from another block/cockpit steering would be added to that, so it might needed to be set to -1 to offset any steering inputs when boosting… dang I want that DLC now to test the physics of them
I love it so much, first build of the update and first thing you build is a Romulan warbird style ship, i hope too see more startrek themed stuff in the future 😁👍🏻
Even if it is familiar space ships dont have to be streamlined or look symmetric, With your focus on functionality your ships could look very unique and special.
@@Silentcore12x wrong, just wrong. it doesnt matter what game you play the more function you add to one single ship the more inefficient it gets. A miner doesnt need wings or many thrusters in space and can hold way more what would he do on a planet. for transport you have specialised ships or even rockets for. the list goes on.
Being finally able to toggle stabilization will be sooooo nice, currently you can't use logic block for a toggle because that adds a slight delay and the stabilization doesn't work
I’m excited for when this update comes out and the talented Trailmakers start making replicas of pop culture ships from stuff like Star Trek and Star Wars
4:40 you could totally take that and slap it on as the back section of the craft. Just build an armored shell around it, guns, shields, and boom. Spaceship.
Awesome! I really really hope that they will make the next update after this in Space too cus theres so much ppl could do there. Like a Deathstar Beam and Invisibility devices, ion cannons, laser beams, sensors and much more!
18:16 in space it better to fire the rockets away from the ship, aiming them in the direction you're going is just temperamental.you wanna fire them in a arc outwards
I'd love to see a challenge to have a ship above one of the planets that then has to launch a rover down to the planet. For a hard mode challenge you could have the rover have to launch itself back off the planet and get back into the starship
To be honest I don't really like the Quantum rudders I mean it's cool to have them and if you want you can of course use them but I personally think that the fun part of space is that there is no drag and the challenge that comes with that to maneuver your spaceship. With the Quantum rudders it's almost as if you're just on a normal map only without gravity. if you could toggle them off then I would probably use them but just have them off all the time until I want to come to a complete stop because that's really difficult without them.
If you put wings and conventional control surfaces on your space craft, it might improve the performence in atmosfeer. The wings will help counteract the g-force of the planets and will do nothing in space because of the lack of air.
y'know, that ship really looks like it's detached from some bigger part? like, some sort of fuel/cargo container-transporter/hyperdrive booster for longer distance space travel.
I've played luteral hundreds of hours of space sims. You need to strafe. It's all strafe. That let's you move out of the way of your targets line while keeping sights on them. I'd strongly recommend you program a flight assist command block comp, that let's you fly more like a plane for simple flight but combat is a whole different ball game. Use the lack of gravity to help you so instead of enforcing movement you simply change your trajectory. I can't really explain it better than that without showing.
You should tighten your shields to make them as close to you ship as possible to make your shields harder to hit and therefore make it harder for you to die
you should do an emp only fight, where you have to fly close to the ground, or in a dense area. that way the randomness of an emp shot, will make you hit the stuff.
The big circular aiming reticles were large, but I really liked how it had multiple depths to it so it was much easier to aim in third person (even with lock-on)
You should put your sheilds front to back, so if they get emp'd from the front you can turn and run until it Regensburg and if you get emp'd from the back you can flip around and rush. It also might be smart to do 2 layers of shielding with on a little bit bigger and on a 90 degree offset, so you only lose a quarter of your shielding instead of half.
Fun fact, in reality white and other reflective colors are often used in space, because parts that are painted that way don't heat up as fast. Since there is no atmosphere and air to quickly dissipate heat, all of it has to slowly trickle out via infra-red radiation.
this Scrapman's ship looks a lot like the Eagle in Elite Dangerous in the shape. i am a bit disappointed though that he did not add the stabilized mug on this thing
With the new shield blocks, you could definitely make defensive mines that block bullets if you maxed all the settings, maybe add shields on all sides. That would be fun for a battle
1/4 x 1/4 = 1/16, not 1/8. 🙂 But the neat thing about designing space fighters is that wings don't need to provide lift... and as demonstrated here, can serve purely as weapon mounts. I'm loving the new assortment of shades... and the black and red looks amazing.
You can do quantum "air brakes" by having quantum rudders mounted on hinges, so that they flip out, perpendicular to your path of travel. That will induce a turn in addition to slowing you, but if you balance them, such that they cancel out each other's turning, (EG one folds left, other right) you're left with just braking.
I also expect to see a multiplayer challenge where you create trolling torpedoes and use them against each other. Trolling torpedoes as in an anchor block on the end of a straight suspension connected to either a rocket booster or space thruster. The point being if they hit you, they'll stick on and keep firing so you'll be stuck spinning in which ever direction you got hit in or be shoved in that direction. Basically until either one of your ships is un"fly"able you keep tagging each other. Or you can always add TNT and make them space missiles.
For explosive firepower in space you should try some of the older weapons. Thetank cannon and gunpowder cannon shouldn't have any drop in the zero g area, and the pirate base has less than normal gravity, so they should have less drop than they normally do.
Hi scrapman, I have been watching you for around five years and made my introduction to engineering, when I saw a community Xbox, the first thing I did was download trailmakers.
You should be able to use two quantum rudders for braking, basically like air brakes: one turns up and the other one down Also pretty sure you can move the shields front and back by setting their offset to different values on both parts
Could you avoid having one of your shields having to take more damage than the other by putting them both on a rotating servo? I'm really interested in seeing what that would look like.
If you did that, you might want to have four shield generators so no parts would be sticking out and to make sure you don't end up with a rotating weak spot in your shields.
Amazing video! Love them! Can’t wait for the release!!! Can you make a vid or explain how you made the landing gear fold down and up? I’m SOOOOOO confused I’ve been trying for an hour
Last video I said test the shield with each weapon. Thinking on it more, see if you can shield stack and make multiple layers. Also put 2 shield blocks on a rotating servo that spins and see how much longer 2 shields rotating constantly last compared to a static shield.
so for slowing down, why not move the quantum rudders to above and below center of mass instead of on the sides since you don't use them for roll. This way you could put them on hinges set to rotate them perpendicular to the ship as "Air brakes"
i think plane type movement with quantum rudder is hard to control, when talking about space, ufo like movement like strafe right left up down and fast turn rate will be more efective
You need to make a ship with spinning shields so one side doesn't take all the damage. So hopefully the shields last longer since damage will be spread out
Video Idea for you and the crew, Do a spaceship dogfight, but everybody must use their 1st ship built for this DLC, no modification (the ship everybody used in their preview videos).

the shields are really interesting. can you make double layered shields? can you move the shield generator and with it the shield itself? (with a button on the seat, while flying)
You showed in the last video that quantum rudders will change the direction of your creation instead of the flight, so what if you have two Fighting each other. So you'd have one on top of a wing and one on the bottom.
Anyone who is still confused what greeble is, just watch any of the first (as in the original trilogy) Star Wars movies. You'd think that "more advanced" space ships would be smooth and plated, but you look at the bridge of a star destroyer or just the surface of the Death Star, there's just a ton of greeble that's been stuck on. It makes it look like they might do something. Only problem with that is that there's literally no function or backstory to them. Greeble makes plain flat surfaces look busy by having stuff put on there. There's no right or wrong way as far as whether or not to greeble, but if you do it half way between clean and greebled, it will most likely look bad. Only specific cases does it actually look good, like Boba Fett's ship, Slave I. Smooth on the front/top, greebled on the bottom/back.
It looks like on the horizontal line of the aiming triangle/reticle, it stays parallel to the ground you spawn your build on. Even in flight it rotates to that surface.
It kinda defeats the points of a "booster" using the rocket engine, with how it has a ramp up... the point of a booster is normally to get a sudden high increase in speed xD
Here’s an idea for you, you could test how the bomb bays work in space. Do they get released with enough velocity to bomb targets, or would they be better suited for mine laying

Maybe add some vertical quantum rodders to prevent the drift of your crafts when you're yawing

They will tail the spacecraft pitching up as the quantum rudders always face away from the direction of your craft.
@@squish_nerd Unless they're facing in opposing directions, so they cancel each other out, but still slow the craft.
