This is so cool. My husband and I started on the carnivore diet, you eat only meat and animal products and people have reported even our friends that we know that they have been shredding weight and feeling amazing. I know that we get a lot of fat while cooking, I have been wanting to do something with all of the fat. I am amazed that you can make candles and soap out of it that is good for you. Our ancestors use to use it all the time. They used it to make body creams and all kinds of things. It's exceptionally good for your skin. I've noticed that I'm so much livelier and my skin and hair is doing a lot better too. I can't believe how much we've allowed ourselves to be bamboozled in our culture. This is amazing, thank you for showing the process of making your own ingredients and the final product.
I purified my tallow today, yay! Tomorrow I'm adding essential oils and Grapeseed oil to make my face cream, and was so pleased to find your tutorial on making candles because I've wanted to do this for so long! Thank you so much for your wonderful content :)
For the candlesticks/"pillars"... could you also do the dipping method, like how candles used to be made, by just dipping, let harden, dip again, repeat as necessary...?
I just made my first tallow lotion today and i am amazed at how my skin just soaks it up i thought it would be very greasy but its not ! I used Geranium essential oil which turned out to be a soft pleasent fragrance! Im so thankful for all your videos
I remember as a child going to a candle factory. Actually it wasnt a factory but a man who went hog wild making taper candles. He diped them and cooled them over and over until they were the size he liked. When i asked i was told that they were made from tallow. Though soft i think he must have added some other wax, parafin, or other substance. The inside of the candles were white and the outside was colored. They burned very well. Can you make tapers with tallow?
I used a coffee EO from plant therapy so it is a darker color. The EO settled at the bottom of the candle. Have you had this happen before/any tips to prevent?
today i did the tallow body lotion it is amazing, i did extra and i give to .y gf uncle has psiorasis all in his body. i will try this candles thank you
Hello! I usually harvest three to four white-tailed deer per year and I just started saving the fat from them for projects like this. Deer fat -- other than caul fat, which is the fat around their intestines / stomach -- is hard and very waxy when cooked. You mentioned in this video to only use the leaf fat from cattle, not trim fat. I'm wondering if the fat on deer and cattle are so wildly different that all the venison "fat" I have is tallow and actually usable for this? I'm going to try anyway, I was just curious if you had any insight! Thanks!
I love your videos. I started making tallow soap after watching them. Question: what can I add to make tallow harder especially for free standing candles? I’m thinking maybe stearic acid 🧐
Thank you! Great question. I found that only hard leaf fat works to make pure tallow candles. If you have softer tallow, maybe a beeswax tallow blend would work!
Does tallow throw the scent from the essential oils well? I love beeswax for candles but I have found that it's not really worth using essential oils to scent them because they don't throw the scent.
Thank you for the video. I've been making tallow candles for about a year now. I've learned quite a bit since then and I'm still refining my candle making. I noticed that most channels don't address the importance of the thickness of the wick and the size of the container. Is this something that concerns you when making candles or does the leaf fat really make that big of a difference? Right now I'm just using the fats rendered from cooking.
@@AllThingsConsidered333 The short answer is yes... however, I use them for emergencies only. I have two or three in the fridge right now. When I use them, they need wick adjustments from time to time but nonetheless, they work for what I need. I try to keep any rendered fats to cook with and season my cast iron skillets with. Originally I made several candles thinking the more the merrier but I found I only needed two or three when the electricity went out. They worked great and they burned for hours. And since I have a surplus of rendered fats (I keep the tallows separated...chicken, beef & pork) I can make more at any given moment. I find that the beef fats work much better than the bacon fat because the beef fat is harder when solid. So, that's what I settled on with a thick wick made for tallow candles (I got them on Amazon). I suggest making a few different sizes and test burn them for a few hours. I use small jars like better than bouillon jars, minced garlic jars and pesto jars. I'm certainly no expert but I love making do with what I have. Apologies for the lengthy answer. I would love to hear your results on the deer fat. Best of luck to you.
I am in a candle making group and a few said it was bad to burn essential oils that "fragrance oils" are supposed to be used. Idk if thats true, I just wanted to make you aware incase it's true and you wanted to look into it. I'd hate for your babies to be at risk for something. I'm completely new so to making candles so I don't know much about it.
Hello Marissa. Thank you for your useful and amazing information, do you know if it's safe to freeze meat in aluminum foil? It is confusing to freeze meat plastic free. Would love to hear from you about the subject
Great question! I would avoid aluminum since it can contaminate the food and is a metal we want to avoid. For freezing plastic is okay, since it's a cool temp. You can also wrap meat in parchment paper and then plastic to create a barrier :)
I have no experience with candle making but I do see people say that there in using dried herbs or Flowers it's best to roll the pillers in the mixture, rather than mix it in the melted wax/oil
Thanks for this video. I have 10lbs of beef fat that I was planning on rendering down so my daughter and I could make some candles. However after watching your video I don’t know if I have the right fat. What would happen if it’s not the right kind? Would it not burn right or set up right? Thanks again for the video.
You're welcome! Great question. You'll know by the consistency, whether it's hard or soft at room temp. If it is nice and hard and you know it will make a hard candle, I'd say go ahead and use it. If it's too soft, you'll know right away, and you can just use it for other things :)
Hi Marissa! I have started making products with rendered Beef Tallow. I have actually rendered again after getting it from the Butcher and there is still a "beefy" smell. Is that normal? When used in a candle will it still have a beefy smell or does that go away when fragrance or essential oils are added? Thanks!
I purify my tallow before making things with it, and I didn't notice any beefy smell at all when burning these candles. Here is how I purify tallow: ruclips.net/video/M4UiZe4mjmg/видео.html
I get mine from a local farm and render it myself. For candles, you want it nice and hard, not soft trim fat. Here is how I render: ruclips.net/video/M4UiZe4mjmg/видео.html
I made my first batch of beef tallow candles but it was an 8 ounce jar so I used about a cup of beef tallow that I melted and then I added 30 to 40 drops of essential oil and there is absolutely no smell when it burns. Do I need to do 60 like you mentioned
Hi! Not too long ago, my family and I ate shawarma for dinner and i noticed just how much fat was wasted. would i be able to use this sheep's fat to make candles too? I'm not quite sure what part of the body it comes from, so I'm hoping it being sheep's fat will be enough!

It really is! :)

Hii, today I’m doing my purify tallow thanks to your video, and now I see I can make candle too, thanks a lot for sharing your tutorials😊!!
Thank you!
Thanks for all useful information sharing.. I did many searches about candle making from tallow, this one is so helpful...

@@BumblebeeApothecary I tried some stearic acid and it definitely helps. Thanks for your response!! You a blessing ❤️
Great Christmas gifts.
love those candles
Great idea for extra tallow! I’m going to have to check out those essential oils 💜
Good job, multitasking
Thank you so much for this!
Love love and love thanks for another wonderful video 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Awesome job and great info and demonstration..appreciate the content
Thank you! And thanks for all your support!
Can you add coloring to these - if so what kind works the best?
Nice instructions! Will make one definitely!
Well made video and candles, thank you.
Thank you so much!

I'd say these are similar to beeswax in that regard. I wonder what natural fat works well with essential oils - I'll have to keep researching!
Thanks so much for the video!!
Just an FYI, your beef tallow links aren’t working on any of your videos. Would love to purchase some through your affiliate link.
You’re the best thanks!!
How long does it take to harden?

Yes, it is important to use leaf fat, because it is nice hard tallow. Tallow from trim fat will be too soft to make candles :)
Did your tallow candles work? I don’t have leaf fat and I wanted to make candles with the ton of deer fat I have…
@@AllThingsConsidered333 The short answer is yes... however, I use them for emergencies only. I have two or three in the fridge right now. Do you have to use grass fed tallow. Or that's just what you like?
are essential oils safe to burn? fume wise
what kind of string do you use?

if it melts so it will be oil not solid like the candle drippings?
Are these candles save to put under a candle melter? I don't really like to burn the candles, if that makes sense. Thank you for this great video
I haven't tried that, but I would guess so!
Hello, I'm watching from Mongolia. It's very helpful. Is the ingredient only eo and tallow?
Thank you! Yes :)
Where do you find your tallow??
How is the scent throw on these candles?
Great video as usual! Is it safe to add dried flowers or herbs to the candles? And is it better to have glass containers rather than tin?
Thank you! I think metal or glass would both work fine, and I'm not sure about adding herbs or flowers :)

Have you tried adding beeswax and color?
I read some EO are not a good option for candles ? Any insight?
I haven't tried adding those, but I'd like to! I haven't head that about EOs, but I'll have to look into it.

Can you use a wooden wick?
Can you use soft tallow and add beeswax to make them work? Thank you.
That may work, I haven't tried it, but good idea!
Where do you get the leaf tallow? All I see is leaf lard from pork or beef tallow, how do we know if it's good for candles?
I get mine from a local farm and render it myself. For candles, you want it nice and hard, not soft trim fat. Here is how I render: ruclips.net/video/M4UiZe4mjmg/видео.html
Where do you source your tallow?
If not applying to our bodies, like in candle making, is conventional (not grass fed) ok?
Yes, if it's all you can get, I'd use it :)
How did you make the tapered look to the candles in that mold?
The mold is shaped that way :) I linked the mold I used in the description box :)
Do you have a burn time on any of the candles? Thank You
Not exactly, I've burned the jar ones for several weeks. Hope that helps!
Are you using the Oui yogurt jars for the short jars?
They are yogurt jars a friend gave me, not sure what brand :)
I made my first batch of beef tallow candles but it was an 8 ounce jar so I used about a cup of beef tallow that I melted and then I added 30 to 40 drops of essential oil and there is absolutely no smell when it burns. Do I need to do 60 like you mentioned
I would try using more, and make sure the oils you choose are nice strong ones :)
@@BumblebeeApothecary do you have an oil company suggestion that’s affordable?
Plant Therapy essential oil company. I purchase from them and love them too! ❤️

If it is hard enough, it should work! Hard tallow comes from around the kidneys and internal organs. Trim fat is too soft. Hope this helps!
Hello dear, don't these candles smell like sheep? After the essential oil
I made my own but caused headache n smoked alot, terrible,,my partner coughed for 2 days
How long do these burn?
It depends on the size you make, but the 4 oz. jars last a good while, 6 longish burning sessions at least :)
How long did yalls burn?
Quite a long time! I burn them every so often over the course of a year and they have about half in the jar right now.
Have you tried colorants in your tallow candles? Do you know what works with tallow candles?
Not yet! I will have to do some research and experimentation :)
