This particular Beatles cover holds a great deal of significance and has a history of its own at PS22. For starters, at the end of my first year teaching at the school as a second teacher, I was able to work with a small group of fifth graders during my free periods teaching them a few songs here and there. (A little preamble to the work I would be doing in the years to come.) This was my favorite of the bunch. I then revisited this song with my little makeshift chorus during that first year schools reopened during the pandemic back in 2020. We never got around to properly filming it, but it was of the few songs I was able to teach them that year under the crazy conditions, and the kids and I both loved singing it.
As many of you know, I'm not one for repeating songs (with few exceptions here and there), but it really bothered me that no PS22 Chorus performance of this song existed on film. So I had no problem bringing it back yet again to, alas, finally get the job done. And that brings us to this school year. It was the first song I taught this year's group, and the kids memorably incorporated it into their extremely touching performance at the ‪@SandyHookPromiseOrg‬ Gala back in December.
Here, the chorus and soloist Nick turn in a truly fantastic performance that not only makes it one of the signature songs from this year's group, but also serves as a personal reminder of just how much the PS22 Chorus has evolved over the years and how far we've come!! Proud to share it.....
