- In this video I unbox the Westcott Beauty Dish Switch by Manny Ortiz! They say its the perfect softbox for all your photography needs so I decided to try it out. Also in this video I give my first impressions on the beauty dish along with my initial pros and cons.

I've been a huge fan of Manny Ortiz since 2017 and he's the reason I got serious with photography, but I'm sorry but his softbox is way too overpriced. You can buy the Glow EZ lock soft boxes for around $80 and still get the same results.
I appreciate the honesty and direct feedback from a real Manny fan! Let me know your thoughts on my recent video comparing the modifier to other dishes.
At the end of the day it's just a softbox and I'm not paying $300 for that.

@@TMIDD Ah lol, I just use a Godox P90H, QR-P70 and QR-P120.
Overpriced for sure
It's a little on the pricey side. I think I'd go with the CheetahStand for quality and price point. Also Robert Hall has said on a number of occasions to avoid the white interior as it will yellow in time from the UV light. Thanks for sharing as always TMIDD!
I have a CheetahStand QSB-34 which is like the exact same thing(a lot cheaper price wise) and it comes with double diffusing and a grid...made with top notch quality materials...I am a Manny fan but I don't see where this is anything new or different from what is already available...just my opinion

I agree on the white/silver lining situation! I have a 7ft Westcott Silver Parabolic Umbrella for about 8 years (see 12 sec. BTS clip from 2015 ruclips.net/video/mCkRPXyQfbo/видео.html ) Used a lot and is solid to this day, although the carrying sleeve is somewhat falling apart.
I do have two Profoto white umbrellas that, after 9 years, are still white, but other Westcott 43" white umbrellas that I own for over 15 years that have a piss yellow discoloration.
I am switching from Profoto to Godox AD 300 Pro and the Manny Ortiz 36 Switch from Westcott and did get the silver one (will arrive in a few days) just for the durability of the silver coating. For softer light, the diffuser will take care of it.
Anyway... nice review and good comment @Transparent, because I wanted to write the same info... LOL
Westcott is worth it. i might get the silver for the boost in power for outside shoots. i have the small version and the grid.
Sticking by Westcott, the quality is great forsure!
It looks to be quality and a good modifier but for $300 the accessories should come with it. Thanks for taking one for the team TMIDD.
Right I agree. They gave me a free lens cleaner but I'd rather a grid at least haha. and no problem man!
The fact I have to buy a separate light insert is madness to me. I bought it yesterday and didn’t even realise it didn’t come with a bowens mount attached.

As the saying goes, “You get what you paid for”. I’m pretty sure the quality is good for that price point and two names are on it. Both well respected in the photography world, so I can see why this would be priced that way. People buy Jordan’s and Yeezys for about that price and for some, it only lasts three to five months. Would love to see you do a video with it outside.
Thats a great point of view. I do think that when the price was set they knew who their intended audience was so its probably not anything shocking to them.
Nice! I was thinking about getting one just to support him cuz I learned how to use flash from Manny Ortiz! It is expensive, but you get what you pay for! 😃🤙🏽

There's definitely a lot of room for functionality, I think we're missing 4 key aspects that could really make this beauty dish something to beat.
A- Double Diffusion
B- A thicker grid.
C- Different sizes of the plate
D- Interchangeable Interior from White to Silver.

I would buy this but for that price... i don't know man. i can tell the quality is A1. im sure Manny wouldn't put his name on something that isn't. great video.

I love the review. I really like the dish but for 300 your right you should get the grid and type of adapter you need. and if you want to add adapters to it pay extra. I'll let you get a few shoots in before I make that jump. Plus I'm working on getting something else right now.
Agreed. That would be a nice addition to the package but we will see the quality of lighting the softbox provides soon enough.
I was looking forward to checking out this modifier but that price is a tad bit higher than I was anticipating. I already own a few beauty dish modifiers ranging from 20”-42” so not sure how much difference this particular modifier will make for what I do. I will definitely be checking your videos to see how you feel about it after a couple uses. Nice video tho bro.
Fair enough! I will def use it and do a thorough analysis on the product. I have some other beauty dishes that I love so it'll be a nice comparison.

great presentation. Do you sometimes use a westcott 36" grid on it ? It is very expensive. is a white interior ok outdoor with ad300pro ? I will buy only one so I am afraid silver is too harsch in studio,...
white is perfect. I use a grid from my ez lock glow modifier on my Westcot.
the review was okay but didnt give alot of info i couldnt find except that it required some force which was good but wouldve been nice see your review to go thru the actual entire setup options which includes installing the plate uninstalling it same for the mount. Again it was a good review just would be good to hear maybe some more specific comparisons since I related to what u were saying about being on the fence cause of price but the pros and cons I agreed on all points so i may wait a little longer before dropping bread on it

How has this held up over the year? Debating on purchasing this but the price is hard to justify.
It gets the job done for sure. It has stood up to the beating that I have given it so far as well. The price is a bit steep but its in line with Westcott modifiers. I use EZ Lock Glow and get great results as well.
@@TMIDD I got a few Lock Glow's as well and they've been working well. I only use one and it is a 42in one... Quite large that is for sure! Something like this would be a little better I am thinking. I appreciate you responding back!

So I take it this didn't come with any "Honeycomb Grid/Grid" accessory at all?..are you even able to get put a grid on this?..meaning is there enough "velcro" space once you put the other diffuser on?..and if you decide to purchase a separate grid?..will you even able to still attach one?
You are correct it didn’t come with one but I’ve been able to use one from an ez lock glow softbox so there is enough space for sure

Yeah, its the Jinbei quick open beauty dish for $ 99 vs $ the rebranded Westcott for $399. Westcott is just a rebrander from Jinbei.

there are other similar options for less money, I already use other less expensive brands and I doubt there any difference between any modifier with the same dimensions........where there is a difference is on the specific light manufacturer adapter...some are better than others.

Huge pass. 😂. No grid included, too expensive. For $330 (i use Bowen’s as well) you could get 3-4 modifiers. Nice video man!
