- This is a short excerpt from a 16mm home movie showing some scenes of downtown Decatur. It was taken by my great grandfather Arthur Wait in late 1930 or early 1931. It starts with a shot an urban road from a car before driving past the Transfer House, then heading toward his business Wholesale Notions. Also seen is the Staley Building and rail facility. The film has been stabilized as much as possible, exposure corrected and noise reduced. Frame rate is 12.5fps.
Thank you.
Priceless
Amazing footage
THIS is FANTASTIC!!! Your Great Grandfather must have been one of the very first to own a home movie camera?! Back in the 60s when I was a kid, very few people had one! btw ... my Great Grandmothers cousin was George Eastman of Eastman Kodak. 🎞📷 This was really a great little snipitt of Decatur, and it's cool to see some of these buildings still standing today!💖
What a gem. Thank you for posting! Wish there was more footage!
great video- sad what Decatur has become.
At :15 it goes by my residence!
I love this. For a split second (0:24) you can spot a sliver of my Great Grandfather's business, the Schudel Laundry. I always wondered what the view of the Transfer House looked like from their perspective. Thank you so much.
I just HAVE to ask. Would you be related to Harry Wait? He was our landlord back in 1972. Absolutely LOVED that man. The best landlord we ever had!!!
I don't believe so. I asked my aunt and she said there were other Waits in the area that were not related.
The Urban Street is West Main Street. I can't tell what hundred block it started at though. If it east of Monroe St, most of those old homes have been torn down.. Wonderful footage of the Transfer House and going around Lincoln Square and past the Lincoln Theater.

Love seeing old videos of Decatur. I always wondered what it was like to drive around the Transfer House!
Great old film. Pretty cool.
