I might say, to achieve that greatness one must be ready to sacrifice for everything..... "THE END" !
i always wanted someone to make a movie/documentary on Robert Johnson. He didn't practiced continously he actually sold his soul the biggest proof of is that the "27 club" all the musicians died at 27 were greatest of all time there can't be anyone like Hendrix and Morrison! Morrison could see the spirits of native americans and Hendrix was already traveling in higher dimensions.
People you need to watch this documentary. Netflix didn't spin the story of Robert Johnson making a deal with the devil, it was the belief at the time that blues was the devils music that it stemmed from the devil himself. People at that time gave Robert Johnson this myth/ legend that ultimately stripped a lot away from him as well as giving him the fame that he acquired. The series is a bit more than just the link between Robert Johnson and this legend that he sold his soul to the devil but it's also a look at how he transformed rock and blues rock. The skill and methods he learned in that year and a half has been passed down into music today. And that's what's fascinating. I highly recommend you watch it, it's so worth it.
An excellent documentary. I would also suggest those interested to pickup: Screamin' and hollerin' the blues [sound recording] / by the Masked Marvel [i.e. Charley Patton]. A spoonful blues is my favorite.

It’s called practice, the crossroads song sounds like he’s smashing and it sounds like trash, but somewhat is a master piece. He was ashamed of how bad he was so he played everyday every hour until he memorized something that sounds somewhat good then elaborated on that

Elvis didn't take a year and a half to transition from a mainstream sound to the sound of rock n roll. He got up off his chair and started singing in a new way. He didn't have to learn it; he just did it. Maybe something similar happened with Johson, a kind of letting go of mainstream influences and a release into something new.
People don't understand ,they are just telling that he practiced hard...but their is a huge difference between playing well and going ahead of your time ,that also within 1 year
Tommy Johnson In the film O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), a character named Tommy Johnson, played by Chris Thomas King, describes selling his soul to the devil to play guitar.. Very similar story
The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. Even when the legend himself admitted he sold his soul to gain these extraordinary skills in such little time, people would rather disbelieve and choose an even more implausible explanation: "He just practiced and got good that fast". When was the last time you tried something you sucked at and became so good you surpassed the masters who had both the talent and hard work put into the skill since they were kids? All in what, a few years? Any time people suddenly become inhumanly amazing with no rational explanation, there's always some form of cheating involved that comes with consequences. This goes for steroids, suddenly getting rich out of nowhere, using drugs to lose weight, etc. If you want to transcend human limits and easily become the greatest, the strongest, the most beautiful or the most famous, there will always be a great price to pay. Humbling yourself and taking the long difficult path is best. If you don't have the knack for it or the right connections, just give it up. Nothing is worth the price of your soul.

All Blues, R&B, Hip Hop, Rock, Heavy Metal, and R&B & Hip Hop-derived popular music derives from Robert Johnson's work and the Black experience in early 1900s Mississippi. Global contemporary music is probably one of the only distinguishably "American" cultural contributions to the world.
All things considered, I'm really just shocked he wasn't lynched during this time period more than anything else. I'm certain while he was gone he spent his time glued to his guitar so he could be as great as he finally was. That's plenty of time to get good at it and since there really wasn't anything else to do back then I'm certain that's why he was doing things his mentors couldn't. Cause of all the free time he had before he showed up again. The devil story is a cute gimmick though.

i'm not sure whether he did a deal with devil or not but blues was in his vein. I might say, to achieve that greatness one must be ready to sacrifice for everything.....
"THE END" !
What is it called
See 60 minutes interview by Ed Bradley with Bob Dylan.....Chilling..
I love Robert Johnson. Mysterious guy
Over 40 and a legend
This man worked so hard to play guitar! They ain't no crossroads but legend is southern folklore.
i always wanted someone to make a movie/documentary on Robert Johnson.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN IM NOT WATCHING SUPERNATURAL!!!!!!
An excellent documentary. I would also suggest those interested to pickup: Screamin' and hollerin' the blues [sound recording] / by the Masked Marvel [i.e. Charley Patton]. A spoonful blues is my favorite.
Read a manga about him. It was really good.
Me and the Devil Blues
Yep I got the digital copy
Thanks for sharing the information about it.
Theo Allen Eww typical of the Japanese to steal shit from us. They stole one of our folklores.
@@OnettBoyXD ?
American Dad : Roger's learning to play a guitar episode! Devil: I want your soul. Roger: My Kia soul?? How am I supposed to get at my shift at Dairy Queen?
Love that episode
I was pissed they didn't even credit Tommy Emmanuel for the Classical Gas part Roger plays. It's litteraly the audio from the youtube video !
It would be cool if they also added the Ralph macchio movie relating to this subject to their library.
YEP
then everyone will be demanding the Karate Kid movies
That's what I thought this was at first and got super excited. A great childhood memory of my dad and I watching that movie together!
Robert Johnson's destiny, the Mississippi blues story...He ain't got nothing but the blues...Blues power!!!
Agian
Me: slowdown Netflix I didn't even watch homecoming yet.
Netflix: "Another one" DJ Khaled voice
Imagine practise like crazy, hours and hours of blood, sweat and tears to perfect your technique and performace only to have people say: "No one can learn that, the DEVIL must have given it to him"
I love the music in this trailer
ReMastered should make a documentary about William Onyeabor: the isolated musician.
I loved the explanation of where "The Devil's Music" originated. Not so much about it being evil...but rather money. The guys spent their tithe money at the juke joints each Saturday night and the preachers didn't appreciate it on Sunday morning. lol
Watched this trailer then automatically switched to Netflix to watch. Awesome documentary.
"And at the crossroads the devil will sing for your soul".
If this trailer ended with a sentence like that, it would be incredible.
It’s called practice, the crossroads song sounds like he’s smashing and it sounds like trash, but somewhat is a master piece. He was ashamed of how bad he was so he played everyday every hour until he memorized something that sounds somewhat good then elaborated on that
An under 6 months it’s very hard to learn guitar so good that it sounds like two people playing
I love everything horror related.
Same
what horror? A human life? Are you crazy?
I think the people who made the Conjuring Films should do a movie about him. No cap
I would watch that.
You know what? Attributing his talent to the Devil or some other supernatural force, just belittles Robert Johnson's genius.
Robert himself admits his connection with the devil. Science doesn't account for the supernatural. Just because something isn't scientifically testable doesn't make it not true.
@@RsZ789 Something that is claimed without evidence can be dismissed without evidence. BTW I have an invisible ethereal multi-dimensional dragon as a pet.
@@simeoncarter3768 Hitchen's razor is a self refuting statement. It presents no evidence itself that the statement is true, therefore it can be dismissed by its own premise. In other words, the statement itself doesn't bring any evidence why it should be considered true therfore refuting itself. Tell me more about this dragon...
It was his own claim. Do research
Yes indeed and you said it all. I have no reason to keep explaining it here. Thanks and bless
I mean I learned to play the piano is two months with non stop practice so ig a year worth of dedication, isolation and practice can get u far.
Yes, it is normal if you were born to do this, but do not tell me that a man failed in a business for 17 years or more and suddenly succeeded in 6 months And the same man, all of his songs talk about the devil, cross the road, or coincidence?
Watched it last night honestly such a great story to sit an listen too an learn about
Been a long time comin for this man to get a closer look
Nice Netflix
Father of the 27 club… 27 number of chapters in the book of Leviticus. 27 books in the New Testament. All revolve around sacrifice. 27 bones in the hand too, salvation comes from the right hand (New Testament)
He done changed his name to Scratch!
This does not explain that all of his songs talk about crossroads or Satan
such a badass documentary and visuals is incredible
People don't understand ,they are just telling that he practiced hard...but their is a huge difference between playing well and going ahead of your time ,that also within 1 year
Someone should make a horror flick with this "story"
It would have a good soundtrack 😎
Tommy Johnson
In the film O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), a character named Tommy Johnson, played by Chris Thomas King, describes selling his soul to the devil to play guitar..
Very similar story
The song at "the music you know" 0:58 please?
Looking for it too. Drives me nuts. I am pretty certain it’s a banjo, not a guitar.
It sounds legendary
Especially when he turns into a wolf and when he’s playing the guitar
@@NickoD Any Luck?
@@johngoing8534 nope. I've tried cleaning up the talking and running it through shazam and going over several dark country songs...no dice... :(
The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.
If anyone knows the second song in the trailer (0:58) please let me know. I know the first is Devil’s gonna come by Raphael but the second one is more sought after
Download a Shazam it's a song recognition app.
J.J. I have done this and I still couldn’t find it unless I wasn’t using the app right.
@@Ramblin_Cyclops it's most likely just original trailer music then.
J.J. I mean it was in the actual documentary as well, so maybe it was just a little tune then?
@@Ramblin_Cyclops well you could always try checking the end credits. Normally all songs used in a film are listed there.
Simply Wow can't wait to see this, something that every music lover must watch!
Did they manage to interview the Winchester boys? I've seen this episode before.
I remember when I was unemployed for a year and spent everyday practicing jazz piano all day. Everyone went wild whey they saw how much I improved. Then I got a job and all my chops are gone
Wut
Who know the name of sound play start from 0:58
*Practice,Passion,Creativity*
Thats how he got good
Why am I watching this at 12mn with my guitar on my left side
Outstanding Documentary! Don’t miss it.
Saw this in a Hap and Leonard episode. (I'm assuming that episode revolved around this same story)
Thought same thing love that show
All Blues, R&B, Hip Hop, Rock, Heavy Metal, and R&B & Hip Hop-derived popular music derives from Robert Johnson's work and the Black experience in early 1900s Mississippi.
Global contemporary music is probably one of the only distinguishably "American" cultural contributions to the world.
Does anyone know the name of the song that starts at 0:58?
Ever find the name of that track? Still looking for a soundtrack list for the show. Watched it an enjoyed a bunch of the tunes
several people are desperatly looking for this... no clue for now
Find it?
Still looking? I guess
This story has always fascinated me
Y'all remember the movie crossroads? The one about a blue's man?
Yes with Ralph Macchio, one of my Faves!! They actually reference Robert Johnson and the actual Crossroads in the movie
