Pupils dialate in the dark, people die late in the dark refers to his friend Joe who took his life in Dec 2010. I just realized the meaning of the next line. He says Noah was late for the arc. Ren was 5 minutes late from getting to his friend Joe before he jumped. I'm not sure but it fits. Also, Ren is agnostic but is intrigued by Bible stories as well as his faith being shaken during his suffering.
I know some Ren fans can be a bit intense but the Renegades will have your backs. Just be you and I wouldn't worry too much about saying the wrong thing. Btw, I would wait before doing the acoustic version. The lyrics are the same. He's got some amazing lyrical pieces like Heretic, but you would need to really sit up to get all the doubles, etc. Put it on your list 😂
Ren said somewhere that humans leave saving themselves till the last minute Noah was probably late for the ark. He didn't connect it to Joe.
@@kathleenwincott5581 With Ren it's probably both. He never breaks down all his lyrics. In interviews, he'll give a simple meaning when we know there's doubles there. In the Rolling Stone article after the album came out, he did that same thing.
Now you need to listen to the acoustic version of Genesis. Ren has a wonderful ability to flip more produced tracks and strip them down to the acoustic bones that make them into their own unique pocket of Ren.

Students demanding more or seeking when knowledge is kept from them (kept in the dark). Students die late in the dark - after a long period of being kept in the dark, a pupil may believe they're a master, hence the pupil "dies"
After a period of spiritual darkness, one may cease being willing to learn.
Pupils (eyes) dilate in darkness, to let in more light.
Pupils also dilate in death, one of the first signs checked for is fixed dilated pupils, heart stopping is still likely candidate for resuscitation whereas fixed dilated pupils is when doctors would cease attempts to revive.
People die late in the dark - statistically the most common time of death from all causes is 3am-4am. So common it's known as "The Death Hour" in hospital wards and aged care facilities. It's such a solid belief in hospitals that if an ICU patient can make it past 4am they likely have another day to live.
